Steiner School

[Captain Sensible]

We have just enrolled our son into a Steiner School. We have done a fair bit of research on the subject, but there are not many people who have been to a Steiner School to ask about their experiences.


So what I want to know is has anyone here been to Steiner School/have a friend or child who has been to Steiner School/have any other experiences they would like to relay?

I would appreciate any responses good or bad.

Yeah we want him to go through life without having to learn anything, thats why we are sending him there.

I was looking at sending my son to one when he was 5, but when they said that don't start actual academic teaching until they are seven decided against it, as he needed the mental stimulus, rather than social.
Maybe in a roundabout way this is what Ruddeger was meaning, they don't teach things like maths, abc's extra until they are 7, though this was 16 years ago, so they could have changed.
I have had friends say that they were very pleased with the schools, they aren't as structured & regimented as normal schools & teach the children self motivation & self discipline as well as academic subjects.
Some children flourish in this environment, but others like my son who needed constant prompting & motivation by by others, would be better in a stricter more structured school system.
Not much help I know, but hope it helps a little.

My aunty was telling me of a friend of theirs daughter who is still struggling (in Year 10) because she went to a Steiner school jsut recently.

I think it leaves the children behind the 8 ball to have them starting to learn the basics so late.
