At the risk of being mocked. I believe our real problem is Steven King. He takes up at least $500K of the salary cap, barely makes it onto the field, takes a few games to find form, then gets injured again. In the mean time Otto has to ruck (his best position I think - not a forward), Mooney gets thrown all over the place and the whole team is unsettled.

Imagine if we had of spent the 500 large on a Scott Lucas or got rid of Charlie as well and got Jonathon Brown. This is starting to feel like Barry Stonham all over again. I suppose all I'm saying is unless something changes, nothing will change.

I think about 5 years ago we could have got Lucas but werent prepared to pay the dough ($400K pa) which looking back was 50/50 as he is much maligned at Essendon and God knows we dont need any more left footers who cant kick with their right. Brown was available but it would have taken at lease $750K pa to get him.
I suppose my point is, have we seen the best of King, and should he be traded as we have Otto an Blake.

I cant agree with you there. Kingy would not be on 500k. I have a feeling he was the highest paid player a year or two ago and has now taken a monster pay cut.

Kingy is huge for our club. When he is on the field, he serves our club well. He will be back and will proove the knockers wrong.

Well, I'm glad we didn't get Lucas for 400k a year. He's good but not that good (and he's much better now than he was back then).

Brown was never on the market and you know it. Come on mate!

See, told you I'd be mocked. Whether the Brown or Lucas info is accurate or not, the chances of us taking the next step will be dependant on making some tough decicions based on recent performances and future potential.
Now based on this criterea, King fails on the first point and is suspect at best on the second.
I say wrap him in cotton wool swapping him and Otto off the bench, trade him while he is still worth something, and get a decent tall forward (easier said than done) as Nablett and Henry have still got a fair way to go.
Understand he is the current captain. But in 5 years time when we still havent won a flag will we be saying "King was great in his prime, just a shame he couldn't get on the paddock often enough."

Of course your gonna get mocked for those commets ADA23! lol I do understand your point of veiw but I think Kingy offers us more than whats on the field. His our captain dude! Has any other club ever traded there captain? I think it's insane. hahaha Yes, it's so annoying with him being injured every 2 seconds but when his fit he plays a vital role in the club.

I think you may left yourself up to be ridiculed because you have mixed a few different subjects.

As far as Im concerend , once you have made a player Captain (unless you are StKilda) , you have agreed to marry your club to the player. It would be very destructive to try and trade your Captain.

Now King as a player , one might wonder if he can still have the impact one expects of a ruckman, His injuries surely have reduced his mobility in era more mobile than ever. A fit and firing King , a confiedent King , a marking King , a goal kicking King can be a huge advantage its just been so long since he has been able to play like that , that one wonders if he will recover and if teh game has almost gone past him.

The players you have mentioned are really just fantasy stuff. I can remeber an interview with Cook or someone where they said after 12 months at Brisbane we offered good 2 players and enough money to get the job done , but Brisbane just laughed at us. Brown has never really shown any interest in moving. Lucas has been approached several times, kust about every time his contract was due , and he too never fancied the move or us or both.

The facts are that clubs just can not go and get players like years ago. On the rare occasions a quality player comes on the market extreme prices are usually asked which makes the transfer to their club of choice even more complicated. Lets just say Brown wanted to come here, can you imagine the circumstance it would take to get him here? Id say 2 or 3 First round picks, which means Moloney type trades to get them and to do that we are talking about players like Bartel, Kelly, Chapman or Corey.. The cost would be huge

Good points Turbo and 555. Perhaps then the problem is that he's still captain. Having followed this forum for a while now Ling seems to be the popular choice. What I am trying to say is that if you don't keep turning the list over, and if you show blind faith in certain players, you will stagnate or fall behind.

First game back - useful performance (no humble pie yet though)- hope bomber keeps using him off the bench swapping with Otto to preserve them both
Would like to see him take a contested mark or two - having said that after watching the first half last night and nearly going home in disgust - would like to see a ball actually kicked to a contest

Thought the big man was sensational last night. You could clearly see he had a point to prove.

I still shake my head at all the knockers of Kingy. It is now even more evident how much he means to our club.

Keep it up Kingy. I can't wait until next way now. I am back on the bandwagon.

I thought Kingy and Ottens showed what they were capable of last night. Their Ruck work particularly in the 3rd quarter was awesome and i think the confidence of the team grew. Hopefully they can stay fit.

King made all the difference to the Cats form last night. First time I'd seen him play in the flesh...brilliant man.

Otto still looked slow to me, but maybe i'm wrong?

I think he is very important to our setup. He adds alot to the stopages even if he doesnt get a clean hitout you can just about guarantee the opposition wont get a clean run at it. I think him and Otto rotating in the ruck and a forward pocket would be very good.
By the way it is Steven not Stephen.;)

sorry mate but I think you are just going to have to face that you were wrong on this one. surely after that win you can now see what kingy means to the club.

Jury is still out, but I hope I am wrong - would love to see him back to his best week to week. Looks to me that they will nurse him through and take the attitude that 18 x half games is better for him and team balance than 9 x full games. He like most players needs a few consecutive runs under his belt to find consistancy.

No one is doubting that King is a very good player.
But is his body sound? How many games will he give you before he is injured? I hope I am proven wrong but if he has another injury riddled season it would be interesting to see the outcome

I'm a big fan of Kingy. Somehow the whole Geelong group seems to win more regularly when he is in the side, even when he personally is not at his best. I hope his body holds up because I really feel he's an influential player for us. The fact that he's from Shepparton makes me slightly biased in his favour, I'll admit.

Steven King is Goulburn Valley gold.
