Yep I reckon the deal will be done with Armstrong, I think it always was on the cards from the time he got drafted that he was gonna end up back here!

We don't need more midfielders ahead of defenders and forwards.

If he's coming home, he'll go to Freo.

for sure - he is perfect for Freo, while for us, he'd be on the same level of Callum Chambers, but with an extra 3 or so years developement ahead of him.

and with guys like Kerr, Judd, Fletcher, and even Cousins not really that much older than Steve, he may never even get a permenant spot in our midfield......

Come to think of it, I wouldn't be all that suprised if the Dockers sent Trent Croad to the Dees and recieved Armstrong in return.

It would be about what they are after for Croad and if Melbourne want some more tall defenders it could work I guess.

Melbourne fans would not like it but they rate Armstrong highly so wouldn't want him to leave regardless.

Spot on, Armstrong would slot into our midfield rotation quite nicely and we could do with players of his ilk. The only question is what Melbourne would want in return. If he is feeling homesick, Melbourne won't have much say in the matter, otherwise I'd expect them to be asking for too much in return.

Wasn't Steven Armstrong in the Bali bomb blast? He had his leg injured or something. Not a bad player but Melbourne would ask for a first round pick at least. We would would better off holding onto it and trying to pick up Farren Ray, Matthew Moody or Callum Burges :D

No thanks

I agree with most of you - I can't see why we would want Armstrong - we have an abundance of midfielders. He would be more valuable to the Dorkers.

can't agree on the principle that we have enough midfielders.

If a player is quality (whoever the player), and the right deal can be struck, you get the player. For instance, if our management think Armstrong is a guru (I have not seen enough of him to comment), and the right deal is on the table, you take it.

Why?

Why not? I for one, after this season, would love to see Judd play more as a HFF, who wouldn't after "that" game. Players can be rotated, slotted around the ground.

It also makes us more flexible when it comes to trading players on our list.

I am not trying to say in this post that i do want to trade for armstrong but just want to point out that many of you are considering trading fletcher for Hay, if this was to be done picking up a player like armstrong may help in the midfield as he is a decent player who may in the next 1-2 years be able to take over where fletcher left off. I myself would prefer to see fletcher kept and Cox traded as i am of the opinion Seaby or beeck will be fine in the ruck (even though they arent yet proven at AFL level). If Cox isnt traded then Seaby must be turned into KPP forward or backmen, he has the skills to be anything (and if you watched his game against Subi yesterday you'll see what i mean) so we cannot let him sit ni the WAFL doing nothing for too much longer.

It would depend on two things - what Melbourne want in exchange, and what Armstrong would want.

For instance if Melbourne asked for Chad Fletcher and Armstrong asked for $350,000 I'd tell them to get stuffed. However if Melbourne asked for Callum Chambers in a direct swap and Armstrong wanted $100,000 I'd agree on the spot. I'm sure any suitable trade would be between these two options somewhere, but I wouldn't rule it out without seeing it.*

*My point of view is of course irrelevant until I am added to the Eagles selection panel. Probably a little unlikely at this point in time.

You're right masai, the WCE Recruiting Manager told him and his dad that then denied it when they didn't take him. I can't imagine he'd be that keen on going there now but I reckon he'd be interested in Fremantle.

That may be so, good on him if he's interested Freo, like most of us agree, he'd be a better fit for them anyway.

But whats to say hes got issues with the Eagles ? - I do recall the Dockers delisted Peter Bell and traded away Jeff Farmer yet they are both running around for them now. Theres too much at stake to hold grudges these days.

But I guess you never really know whats BS and what's not anyway.

Interesting story. Stinger Armstrong is/was a mad keen Eagles supporter. His grandfather Ken was formally the coach of Perth in the WAFL (was coach before Magro took over I believe).

There WERE stories that Armstrong would go in the Top 10 and the club said that they probably wouldn't get the chance to draft him, but if he was still around when our selection was available - we would pick him up. As history has it, we picked up Mark Seaby with selection 22 and Melbourne selected Armstrong at 25.

Several articles in the Melbourne newspapers have reported that Armstrong was homesick " misses his family, girlfriend Leah and the Perth sunshine"

Would like to possibly see a direct trade with Chad Morrison, although Armstrong would have a much longer career than Morrison in the AFL.

Apparently Armstrong is a North supporter & if he wanted to leave he'd rather play for them than go back to WA. There's a rather lenghthy & at times heated thread somewhere on their board.

We're not looking to get rid of Arma but it would take a first round pick at least. When's your first pick? 12? Weak draft so not sure what that's worth really.

No interest in Croad.

I know Armstrong well (yes, I really do). I asked him about his future last week. He said that Melbourne hadn't approached him yet, but he was looking at playing his entire career at the MFC. I'm confident he will stay.

IF he wanted to leave, I would look at a trade for WCE's first round pick + Quinten Lynch.

Nah that's too much mate.

You can't expect more than a moderate first round pick for Armstrong, he's a promising young player but has hardly blown the world apart.

I'd consider Eagles 1st Pick+Lynch for Armstrong and Nicholson, but then again, if we are giving up our first pick, I would hope Armstrongs not the #1 aim to get in return for it.
