Did any body see in the telecast of the game,( im pretty sure they replayed this and commented on it) after mclaren missed a shot on goal stevens could be seen behind him yelling something like "WHAT WAS THAT!". what do you guys think of this? sure a miss is annoying but is it stevens' place to say that?

Yep saw that. It's not really on from a senior player that a lot of people see as our next captain. A bit of aggressive encouragement could be a good thing. What they showed was just a dummy spit.

i wish he wasn't in our team.

Should we trade Stevo to Collingwood for a top 10 pick? I i infact like him in our team but think he needs to improve his leadership before he could be captain. There is a certain sintiment amongst the supporters though that dont really rate him highly, hence the question?

there's no way you'd get a top 10 pick out of us.

if anything, the best pick you'd get from us would be early 20's imo.

The way Collingwood's going, you won't be getting a top 10 pick in the draft this year I'm afraid.
oh well, I'm patient with Stevens though.

thats fine, considering Hay went for 2 first round draft picks, we can trade him to North Melbourne for a 1,2,3 round draft pick, wells, mcintosh, harris, harvey, simpson and a kitchen sink. :D

from my personal perpective, i would trade him for anything we could get. If we couldn't get anything, i would delist him. I think he is a negative influence on the team (from what I see) and any skill he has is cancelled out by his attitude.

i don't agree with players giving each other sparys on the field.

if another player stuffs up there are better ways to handle it. some encouragement or a quite word. But not a blast or anything in a negative manner

the 1 thing the 'steven's blast' shows is that he is just as annoyed as the supporters with us losing.

maybe there are not enough players feeling the pain, maybe they are content with where they are at and hence the skill errors, poor disposal, lack of 1 percenters, lack of urgency.

I must say my opinion has changed about Nick over the past few weeks. He's very good when the game is going our way, but when he needs to play tight and hard, he goes missing.

I certainly wouldn't be against trading him as he only has 1 year left on his contract, although I suspect we would have to pick up a fair chunk of his contract.

Given this years draft, if we could get a pick in the 10-20 range i'd be pretty happy.

No way!! No less than top 10 for mine if we ended up trading him.

Stevens is the only A grade midfielder we have I'm afraid. Although I too get frustrated at him, the only thing he really lacks is 'body on the line' courage. Otherwise he's a prime midfielder. He does often gets caught on the rebound due to his constant running forward of the ball, but that's just the way he plays. - The risk he takes. When we win the ball out of the center though.... man he can smash a team. :thumbsu:

As for his dummy spit: Spare of the moment. But not cool though...

No you don't trade Stevens.

As tempting as it is, keep him.

Maybe Stevo has gone the quiet approach too team mates, and now it was time too point out the facts.

These boys need a firecracker up their arses. They shouldn't be soft or treated in cotton wool. They are grown men on wages. A blast once in a while isn't going too hurt.

If they can't handle a spray once from a team mate, then what happens in the clinches when the opposition gets stuck in to them.....

Who does he think he is, getting 20-30 possessions a game is nothing to be happy about. I'd be happier if his opponent got only 10 possessions. He has no defensive side what so ever. And BTW everyone scores behinds, stevo prob missed sitters now and then as well.

Exactly. And that's what hurts us the most. He plays a shoot out type of game. If he gets it 28 times and his opponent gets in 25 times, then he wins? No! As good a footballer he is, we need players in the middle that can be accountable for an opponent, and Nick simply isn't.

If not say trade for tradings sake, BUT, if the right deal was put on the table for Stevens, we would be foolish not to consider it.

McLaren should have been publicly horse-whipped for that miss. Stevens did exactly the right thing by giving him a spray.... do people really think that McLaren is going to have his feelings hurt by a teammate having a crack at him?? Is he going to get emotional over it??? Is he going to sulk in the corner like an 8 year old?? No... he's a grown man who will take it on the chin and make sure he does the right thing, work on it and make sure he kicks the next one.

Stevens sets high standards. If all our players did the same we'd be in a much better place.

I disagree, because we saw Fev using these tactics the last 2 years. The only impact that had, was to reduce Fev to half the player he could be. Now that Fev no longer hands out onfield tantrums, he has improved himself and the team.

Surely the same goes for Nick.

The only thing stopping Fev being an out and out superstar are the players around him... nothing to do with him giving a spray to some bloke who can't implement a basic skill of the game and kick the ball to his advantage. Put Fev in front of a St Kilda or West Coast and he'd be a 100+ goal kicker. The reason?? Because of quality players delivering quality ball.

So Fev's lack of sprays has resulted in an improved team.... tell me, where are we on the ladder?? How'd we play last week?? Improved??.... turn it up!!

Hey Snoozer,

If Nick sets high standards why doesn't he follow them himself. Sure McLaren should not have missed that goal. However do we see McLaren yelling at Stevens for not chasing and tackling hard. A great footballer sets high standards in all facets of the game. Further than this I have also seen Nick kick of few shocking clangers from kick outs in his time at Carlton.

If our whole list had Nick's attitude then we would be even worse off than we are now. He ceretainly has skill and lots of it but his attitude is and always has been sub standard.

Yeah that was very heartening. Stevens is the new campo, at least campo had some runs on the board with our club before he lost the plot.

I don't much like what happened on the weekend, but I do think we have improved over last year.

If we had 18 players as high quality as Nick Stevens we'd be larfing. I agree that the defensive side of his game is not great, some of the 'tackles' on the weekend were schoolyard stuff, however I don't believe his attitude can be questioned. He always goes as hard at the final siren as at the opening bounce and appears that he always has an honest go... gets to more contests than any other guy on our list. All he needs is some support, with some added grunt and we'd all be pleased with him.

Skills are skills... and he has it in spades. Yeah he's had a few clangers... but I bet you'd say that you've hardly seen Simon Wiggins have a clanger.... he's never had the f***ing ball to start with.
