Anyone else hear the interesting comments by Josh Francou shortly after one yesterday when ty\he panel was discussing Adelaides curfew ?

Made reference to two players going out after the Sydney finals loss in 2003, getting caught out and then denying it to the playing group. Francous words were that they had lost all respect of the playing group and were not at the club the following year.

Without mentioning names he left little doubt who the piss pots were.

I've heard this story from my friend chiropractor who does work on some of the Port boys.... yes yes it's one of those Chinese whisper stories.

Chinese whispers as to whether they went out, or chinese whispers as to who the players were ?

Josh came across as being pretty sure of his facts

As to the who the said players were. Apparently one of the players was basically told to pack his bags by the club and players, while the other was already on his way out the door.

OK - well unless I'm stupid the players I've listed were the ones Josh was talking about .... said they both were out at years end and moved on to Victorian clubs. Said they had lost a lot of respect from the remainder of the playing group.

No wonder Nick was too gutless to tell the club in person he wanted out....... and Russell several times alluded to non football factors being an issue with Guerra in 2004 when defending the decision to move him on.

Yeah, I just don't want to go naming names

Good point - mods delete this thread if you feel I've guessed to much from Josh's comments.

I'm not being serious, just a bit of a joke seeing some mods (no not port ones) get touchy if you put names to players and rumours etc etc

I don't know about Nick, but Brent was definitely asked to leave. Hawthorn was well aware of his problems with the drink when they picked him up (I have an extremely reliable source).

I thought it was well known fact at the the end of September in 2003, that both Stevens and Guerra were drunk after the Sydney final. It was made clear that Guerra had hit the turps a few too many times when he was traded and he admitted it publicly in 2004 or 2005.

What I was unaware of was that they were caught out and then denied it to the playing group.

I recall there was criticism that Guerra did not get more of a go under Choco. It's a pity from our point of view that Brent wasted his time at Port to a fair degree. He certainly had the ability and was excellent in the physical side of the game. Apart from any issues with alcohol Choco made it very clear after the St Kilda game in 2004 that he had been frustrated with Guerra's inability to learn to kick with his non dominant foot.
