Gees talk about over exaggerate!

He loses his cool and all of a sudden he is fat, traid bait, goes missing when the game is there to be won and putting himself before the team?

PUHLEASE!

Stevo is in the best shape of his life and has commented in the media that his body is feeling the best it has ever felt, he was instrumental in the comeback games against Richmond and Brisbane WHEN THE GAME WAS THERE TO BE WON, and putting himself before the team because he had a brain fade and fairy tapped a kid in the stomach. MY GOD!

Shit happens guys. GET OVER IT!

again and again and again and again.

Whilst it's not ideal, he is only human and comments about his weight, supposed lack of effort and the fact he should have been traided are pot shots that are unwarranted.

i'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt on his weight, but the rest is warranted. A few times he has a shown us what he can really do (that half after the papers called him fat)...but the majority of the time he has shown us what he would rather do.

I am a bit disappointed on a number of counts. First that Stevens would allow his frustration to get the better of him of all places in a practice match 2 weeks before the opening round, second that what looked to me like an open hand push albeit firm but open handed just the same, gets 2 weeks reduced to 1 on an early plea, and third that we will go into the first 2 games of what could be a watershed year for the club, minus one of our key playmakers because of suspension.

lots of hysterics but the bottom line here is that he's in our best 6 and, unfortunately does some stupid things like this one...rev him up but suggestions that he should have or should be dumped is put forward by fools who thankfully will never hold any real decision making power in the real world

Nick Stevens gives Blues headache

CARLTON faces an agonising decision on whether to fight another suspension to experienced defender Nick Stevens. The Blues today must accept Stevens will miss the first two AFL rounds or challenge a striking charge at the tribunal tonight and risk an extra game.

A single camera side-on to play in a grandstand captured Stevens' clash with Fremantle's Nick Suban in the third quarter of a practice match in Bunbury on Saturday.

If the Blues take the case to the tribunal, they will argue Stevens caught Suban unawares with an open-hand push to the midriff as he tried to break a hold at a boundary throw-in.

Stevens will already miss Carlton's Round 1 match against Richmond because of a one-game suspension from last season.

Carlton officials want to study the video evidence with legal advisers today before telling the AFL if the club will accept or fight the penalty.

The AFL contracted a Melbourne video company to cover practice matches and a copy is given to competing club.

The match review panel assessed Stevens' action as intentional, with low impact to the body, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-game sanction.

But Carlton's most experienced player also has 68.75 points carried over from the one-match penalty for striking Hawthorn's Rick Ladson in Round 22 last season.

If Barry Hall can get off for his lovetap on Matt Maguire a few years ago, then Stevens should have no trouble getting off this charge, the only hiccup is the tribunal lotto system, but hiring a few QC's should help that.

Robert Richter alone would be very handy ;)

Actually come to think of it, I wander if Barry Z QC would offer his services for free :D

On replay, that's definitely an open handed push, albeit a very strong one.

However, Stevens had a bee in his bonnet all day. His body language was shit, and he had a dig at a goal umpire for calling a goal, that was CLEARLY a goal. I was a bit confused as to why he'd question the goal umpire's integrity, when the kick went through the big sticks...?

Symptoms of a deeper problem perhaps? Only time will tell.

Very true.

Another thing people may notice with Stevens is he goes missing when the game is there to be won and On the Line. When we are up by 50pts and pumping a team he will quite often put in a blinder of a qtr with a heap of Possies and some goals, but rarely does it with the game in the Balance when someone needs to stand up. You can almost gaurantee if Stevens gets 25 possies in a game his opponent will be on the same if not more and be more damaging.

Another absolute load of toss...at least try and critically appraise the situation rather than sprout ill formed opinions.

Last year (you know the one, where he came back from the career threatening injury) he dragged us across the line in a number of games. He was the number one last quarter performer in a year where we staged a number of last quarter comebacks...you think there might be a relationship? In terms of leadership just about every other listed player is going to come off looking poor compared to Judd, but Stevens stood up when it coutned on a number of occasions last year. He's certainly streets ahead of most other senior players in the group.

People are quick to throw the soft tag, but his tackle and contested possession count compare favourably to Murphy who many seem to think is a 'hard insider'. The guy has a run, carry and kick role because that's what he does best, and he is daylight ahead of anyone else on our list at present at performing that role.

Im not his biggest fan, and I get frustrated by these types of occurences as well, but geez he cops it unfairly around here.

And just to finish...I'm not sure how long you've followed the Blues, but how often in Stevens time at carlton have we been 50 points up and pumping a team?

Couldn't have said it better myself. Excellent post.

Couldn't agree more. But I would go a step further and say that there are a number of players that cop it unfairly on here. JR, AB, Carrots, Fish, Hoops and now Stevo to name a few.

I wrote earlier I was disappointed, but I don't believe it was a punch, and don't believe it was reportable. Its one of those line ball things that the player gets lumped with (and the team) but that other players get off identical things at other times or that week other players commit bigger indiscressions but dont even get cited.

So on reflection I hope the club fight it. I dont blame Stevo for that one. We will miss him against the Lions, I think we can cover against the Tigers and Bombers though.

The most disappointing part of the article:

The AFL contracted a Melbourne video company to cover practice matches and a copy is given to competing club.

Why can't a copy be made available to broadcast???

Or at least watch streaming online? :thumbsd::thumbsd:

I agree that Stevo plays usually plays well against the Lions and not against the Bombers (as I posted earlier Stanton usually kills him so it's worth the risk of taking it to the tribunal), however Stevo usually plays very well against the Tigers and he will be missed in round 1, moot point though as he'll miss it regardless of the tribunal decision tonight.

Carlton midfielder Nick Stevens risks two-game ban for striking charge

March 17, 2009 Carlton star midfielder Nick Stevens will risk being sidelined until round four of the AFL season by contesting a striking charge at the tribunal on Tuesday night.
Stevens could have accepted a one-match ban if he pleaded guilty to striking Fremantle's Nick Suban during Saturday's practice match at Subiaco.

But he will instead risk a two-game sanction by fighting the charge.

The onballer already has to serve a one-match suspension carried over from last season, meaning if he loses at the tribunal he will be out of action for the first three rounds.

The Blues open the AFL season on Thursday week when they play Richmond at the MCG, with matches against Brisbane and Essendon to follow.

In the only other charge from the weekend's matches, Melbourne’s Clint Bartram accepted a reprimand after pleading guilty to making forceful front-on contact to the Western Bulldogs' Daniel Giansiracusa in a practice match on Saturday.

what basis are carlton challenging on can anyone tell me? saw the footage yesterday, he hits suban in the stomach unprovoked, are they challenging the contact? you cant see on the footage whether he has an open hand or not....... crazy decision to challenge.... doesnt bother me if he gets off or not as we dont play you guys till later on, but i just cant see why they would challenge something that seems to be pretty blatant

can someone let me know what their argument is?

The HUN article linked on previous page is admittedly a bit of a dog's dinner, but it's still pretty clear:

Carlton officials studied the video evidence with legal advisers before telling the AFL it would fight the penalty.

Maybe this is your answer! It's also called sticking by your man. If Carlton think they have a legitimate chance then why not go for it. Personally I think he will go, but they give it a shot and see. Otherwise the game is becoming softer than butter. Stevens needs to pull his head in with leech like taggers and cop it. He is becoming a "Camporeale" otherwise.

I've seen Crowley do much worse that what Stevens did though.

Pathetic.:thumbsd::thumbsd:

A big year from us is expected and we have this come out of a PRACTICE MATCH.

Was already missing round 1, now he adds another week to that. Piss poor Stevo. As a vice captain and after round 22 last year you would think you would be on your best behaviour.:thumbsd:

I hope juddy and Ratts gave him an ear full in the rooms.

true crowley pushes the envelop from time to time, but that isnt what im talking about. suban went down like bag of spuds, and you can clearly see a strike from stevens caused it..... i just cant see how they could challenge the footage, but if they think they can and he gets off, then well done, but gee he could miss the first thre weeks of the season... just seems strange to me

suban by the way isnt a tagger, i think he was just trying to stay with a player he probably grew up idolising considering that he was a blues supporter, and he wasnt scragging him by any means

as for your sticking by your man argument, i do agree with this, but not if the footage is clear, sometimes you have to suck it up and give the guy an ear blasting to let him know that he has to stop belting people.... we tried with farmer, it didnt work and he got delisted, we have done it with solly hopefully it will work and he has no more issues... stevens needs to pull his head in in my opinion

Agree and that's what I've said before. I wasn't there so I don't know if Suban was tagging. He's a kid anyway and Stevens should know better. Stevens is hardly in farmer's league:eek:

As for clearly seeing the strike, that vision is about as clear as a mud so they should challenge based on that. You cannot tell if he had an open or closed fist.

Good comments though KPR.:thumbsu:
