Around six months ago he was over 120kg, didn't look fit enough for a game of club footy. To get from there, to the display he put on yesterday is very impressive.

I say congratulations to Dew for the work he has done to get to this point, and congratulations to the HFC for the faith and courage they showed in drafting him.

I hope so, priority picks don't earn themselves - you guys know all about that, right?

And besides, I've seen some fairly disgusting Melbourne sides before - the current batch would have to do pretty badly to top some of our efforts in the 80's.

I read this article about Melbourne in the Sunday Age:
http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/no-cash-no-home/2008/03/22/1205602735955.html

Besides the funny story about how there were more Demon players than fans at their Bentleigh fund-raiser, I had to laugh at this quote:

Whereas former bottom teams now chase flags after securing star players from priority picks, Melbourne's performances have not been consistently bad enough to catapult it back up the ladder through draft picks.

Immediately, I thought to myself of those yo-yo Melbourne sides under Neil Daniher - finals one year, bottom four the next.
  • The wooden spoon in 1997 which yielded just 4 wins and #1 draft pick (Travis Johnstone)
  • 14th place finish in 1999 which yielded 6 wins and a top 5 draft pick (traded to Freo for Jeff White)
  • 11th place and pick #9 in the 2001 "super draft" - wasted on a dud named Luke Molan
  • 14th place in 2003 with just 5 wins, priority picks 3 and 5, wasted on those party boys, Colin Sylvia and Brock McLean
  • 14th place in 2007, again, just 5 wins and another early selection (pick #3)
I wonder if there are many other Demon fans like yourself, who actually believe this tripe that Melbourne haven't had their chances at the draft table.

Instead of dwelling on Hawthorn's 2 (two) early dips in the drafts of 2004 and 2005, maybe you'd be better served asking why your club traded away 3 draft picks for the overweight and under-committed, Byron Pickett. How many seasons did he give you? At the time, people praised Melbourne for getting Pickett (for 3 picks) and many people laughed at Hawthorn for drafting Stuart Dew (with pick 45)

Who's laughing now?

I also saw a young Michael Newton manhandling that fat sack of lard like it was play-doh.

Dew is shit. Hawthorn are not a top four chance and Franklin is a protected species (on and off the field).

Well given that the umpires awarded two 50 metre penalties against him, your statement looks rather dumb now, doesn't it?

Oh, and who is Michael Newton? Was he even there yesterday? Perhaps he was one of the many Melbourne jibs that didn't have a dip and went by unnoticed.

Fool.

And that my friends is where this thread should be closed.:thumbsu:

Dew is a fat hack

LOL @ Hawthorn trying to add a veteran becuase they think they are somewhere near a Premiership

Might want to get a forward and backline first before drafting in any more obese 30 year olds

Im impressed:thumbsu: An original comeback from a Hawk:)

Let's be fair though. You barrack for Richmond, hence you impress pretty easily.

How are Tambles and JON going by the way? Nice to see Roughie and Buddy snag 8 between them.

No secret JON was a mistake and Buddy could be great, but

Tambling >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Roughead

Now I know you couldn't say that with a straight face. Surely. Zac Dawson > Tambling. And I think Zac Dawson is one of the worst players to play AFL. ;)

Tambling >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Roughead

hahahaha you guys are just gluttons for punishment.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Roughead kicked four tonight (could have been six) and three last week (could have been six also)

Roughead is a gun.:thumbsu:

Admittedly, he'd make an ordinary outside receiver/injured squib, or whatever position it is Tambling currently fills in your side.

So we're 4 star witts.Isn't that a compliment ?
Spewing we couldn't get 5 stars.I guess only special people get them.
:p

That is far and away the worst comeback I have seen since I joined BigFooty. Are you 12??

Far and away. Full stop.

To those taking pleasure in his injury, grow up keyboard heroes, the amount of work he put in over the pre-season is more than most, he shed 20 kilos.

Besides, when the hammy mends, I dont want him to lose any more weight, nobody can take the bastard down! :D:D
