There are two topics which are discussed on a regular basis:

1. Buckley's suitability as senior coach
2. The succession plan

It is fair to say that there is considerable disagreement within these topics and as a result they are raised constantly in multiple threads, often derailing discussion. I think these topics should have threads permanently "stickied" where all discussion can take place. Posters who insist on bringing up these topics in unrelated threads can have their posts moved by the mods, and slapped for any inconvenience caused. What do you think?

People aren't going to though.

A sticky won't help.

It's just up to mods to redirect all posts to a specific thread.

I think sticky threads give the board a better structure and would limit the number of new threads about Buckley and Mick being posted. Personally I think the board is going down hill fast because of this issue and once the season starts it will get much worse. I don't have an issue with it being discussed, it just needs to be concentrated because it is becoming very tiresome. Just my two cents anyway. If people don't agree then that's fine.

I agree it needs a mega thread (in which I would assume there is one), but I don't think a sticky thread will curb the off topic discussion of MM v Bucks in other threads.

Not much you can do, moderators just gotta be on the ball regarding moving it to the mega thread.

Agree with this.

Sticky threads will just mean that it will always be at the top of the page... and most of us don't want that.

There needs to be some sort of rule against constantly derailing threads.

Really there is only about 3 members on this board who keep bringing the buckley vs mm debate to every topic. Can't the mods just warn them and if they keep going, they face being banned. We already have a buckley megathread, the mods shouldn't have to keep moving posts just because a few people don't get it.

Isn't that censorship?

but I never really look at the sticky threads, I just scroll past them
Neither, but I'd be all for this idea if we lose a couple (how many clicks has the ben ken interview had in the last month?) from a top and put Buckley/succession plan threads in a place where nobody takes any notice of them, right where those tedious, pointless arguments belong

Are you saying that Collingwood members/supporters/followers arguments are "pointless"?
Shame on you.

Ah no. It would be adhering to rules 3 and 4 of posting on this board. People are entitled to opinions, they just belong in the relevant thread. Some of us would rather not have to read round 412 of the Buckley vs MM debate in the Game day thread, training thread, Mason Cox thread, Happy New Year thread etc

Spot on. Sticky threads are almost self-defeating. It never really jumps out when there is new content in there, and they just become part of the noise to scroll past.

Mega-thread - yes. Sticky - no.

No, Im saying that continually arguing about the succession plan and making every topic into Bucks vs Mick is pointless

I don't like sticky threads but I hate people opening new threads when there already are numerous others open and ongoing. Must also piss the mods off as it just wastes their time moving information around and closing irrelevant threads.

I like the fact that we don't have too many stickies - I just tend to scroll past them without a second look. If people could just post in the mega threads at least that way it's easy enough to see new posts and activity and just how popular the thread is. Allows the thread to also die a natural death.

This is a brilliant idea. This board is full of so much shit its unreal. Even little things like random journo who writes a 6 line piece on us gets his own thread. Should have a news thread aswell.

Yeah, I think any posts relating to Buckley coaching future should be directed to the Buckley mega-thread with ban work if it persists. Except perhaps in a game-day thread where the current coaching methods and decisions are being discussed. The historical stuff is exhausting to rehash constantly.

Isn't that censorship?

Maybe we can put aside a thread the contains "acceptable posts".... these could be cut and pasted and used by members of the forum to make the points that they want to make.

For example, someone might want to say something about Travis Cloke. He or she would go to the thread and find a post that closely fits their views on travis. Then they would post it to the current thread. If they were trusted, long-term and well-liked posters, they would be allowed to add one or two lines of their own words. The post would then be cleared by the moderators as being within the guidelines of acceptable behaviour and then posted on the forum.

I agree and don't mind it being in a sticky thread.
Get annoyed at a number of threads being derailed (sometimes I contribute by responding:() but I think that to expect the Mods to move will make a lot of work for them.
Your idea of banning is a good one, perhaps give warning, day off, suspend and eventually ban is a good idea.
Are we the only club on Big Footy that keeps comparing our current coach with the previous in almost every thread?

Are we the only club on Big Footy unlucky enough to have some peanut(s) comparing our current coach with the previous in almost every thread?

I plead guilty (obviously) to getting sucked into debates about Buckley and Malthouse but those moves are always defensive, i.e. myself and posters like you never initiate them but respond to some very hoary and well-worn arguments.

I think the thing here is that the mods have to weigh up the right of people to make the same tired points again and again - and which some posters raise to the level of high virtue - versus the draining affect of that continual picking at old sores for the vitality of the site.

I'd like to see a poll on who'd like to see the Buckley/Malthouse debates in any thread versus those who'd prefer to see them quarantined to specific threads instead.

I don't mind Buckley criticisms being expressed, as I state, in the game-day thread where perceived bad moves on game day are articulated. Other than that, take them to the Buckley rant thread.
