When Strachan announced his decision to leave Southampton he said he wanted to spend more time with his family and that he wouldn't be taking on another job.

I doubt Rupert Lowe would have let Strachan part company with Southampton so amicibly if he was off to manage a rival club next season.

He won't take a season off as he's suggested.

Whether it's Scotland, Spurs or whoever, I'd be shocked if he isn't managing a team by the start of next season.

He also said that he wanted 1 year off and to then come back and manage Southampton again. Rupert Lowe said this wasnt acceptable and they decided to leave it at that.

He is spending time with his family for a year (wont be that long), but he is also having an operation of some sort.

I reckon he'll take the year off, he has said he wants to travel a bit, learn about coaching methods from other leagues and other sports.

Look for him to be back in the sport in a big way the year after though, he doesnt seem the type that will just fade away into the background.
