what strategy changes are you thinking of for the season ahead?

I ran aground early with a raft of injury and was unable to peg back anything on the leaders as the season progressed in 2013, regularly struggling to avoid donuts.
which led to missing the chance to get in key rookies like wines.

the 2 trades per week made it very hard to make up any ground.
for me this year a healthy squad = happy coach.

I employed a cash allocation per position approach which has served well for
seasons previous but last year it didn't provide any advantage at all
whether that was due to injury & reports or the changing face of the trading game
i'm not quite sure.

this year something needs to change to get the edge back!

what served you well last year? and how are you going to improve?

I'm the same as the injuries, they cruelled me last season. This year though, I'm going to try and trade up as soon as I can instead of waiting and collecting money. Didn't work last year and I didn't even have a full squad of premo's by round 23 because of injury.

Out of interest, how much cash allocated per position did you have VSTone?

People shouldn't let the structure dictate their team in 2014, let the value out there dictate the structure of the team. This will mean strong backline/midfields and weaker forwards/rucks IMO.

2014 will be about value value value. People can afford to take risks on what we used to call midpricers because of the amount of trades and how these players are now priced relative to rookies. Guns and Rookies is essentially out the window. Just looking at my plans, I will probably only start with 5-7 players under 160K next year, compared to about 14 in 2013

Plus Round 1 will help a lot of coaches into seeing the true roles of certain players for 2014, however plenty of coaches will be fooled by a hack scoring well in Rd1.

Given I can completely re select my team prior to round 2, I will be treating round 1 as a 'match day' scenario and filling my team with players from Sydney (GWS), Geelong (Crows at Symonds Stadium), West Coast (Bulldogs at Paterson's) and a smattering of players from Hawks (Lions) and Saints (Melbourne).

If there's no rolling lockout, I might even restrict my team to only those picked and playing in the first week. It's all about getting maximum points round one.
