Where do you see Stringer playing, both short- and long-term, and why? What would you prefer?

50/50 Midfield Forward Split

Mainly forward, used as mid when required, Which is a little more often then pinch hitting suggests but not really 50-50 either. 70/30 split for me.

85 - 90% forward with pinch hitting ability at centre stoppages.

When Stringer is given a very difficult matchup/not playing well/midfield is playing poorly he can be given a bit longer (say half a quarter) in there.

But he should never be taken out of the forward line for too long. Far too good for most opponents as a forward and far too important.

Mixes it up as a deep and down the ground target.

We need 3 players capable of kicking 50+ goals a season. We have at least 2 in Stringer and Boyd. Would be a disaster to see his forward line play heavily restricted.

My thoughts.

Stringer is so dangerous in our forward line. Major weapon where his disposal up the ground would not be worth nowhere near the amount it is worth in the fwd 50.

Jake Stringer is a natural forward with a handy knack of

I think the Jarryd Roughead analogy is apt - Jake will be able to do a lot of damage as a mid in short spells but he will be a 50+ goal a year forward. Hell, he's on track to kick 50 goals this season, so he is potentially an 80 to 100 goal forward in a few years. They don't grow on trees.

Unless he improves his tank drastically he should stay mainly forward while pinch hitting in the middle.

60/40 mid/forward split. Natural mid, who we need to be getting the ball 25-30 times not 12-15 times. His tank has already come along leaps and bounds, I see no reason it won't continue to improve with his work ethic.

Play exactly where the team needs him to play on a quarter-by-quarter/week-to-week basis. At the moment that is in the forward line. When Tommy Boyd comes along, that may be in the midfield.

Something I'm torn on. For now about a 80/20 split fwd/mid seems right. At the start of the year I would have said predominantly forward with the occasional pinch hit, but after seeing what he can do around the ground has me arguing with myself. Potential 60+ season goalkicker vs a tall powerful mid that uses the ball as well as anyone in our team when delivering. Honestly don't know, maybe 50/50 or slightly going with the fwd side of things at 60-70%.

Having a look at Jarryd Roughead's stats from this season (The player who I compared Stringer too).

Stringers ave for marks inside 50 are very similar to Roughead. (2.1 - 1.8 Roughy's favour)

Stringers contested marking per game is exactly the same as Roughead contested marking stats. (0.7 per game)

Roughy actually kicks an enormous amount of goals from ground ball gets (Cheers Phil Walsh for that term)
Very similar in style and size (1cm difference) to Roughy.

When Stringer is more consistent with his marking (has strong hands I think its more a lack of concentration that he doesn't take more), not to mention when our delivery into the forward line becomes better he will overtake Roughy in those crucial areas. Both create space with their speed for their size. Jake has to be left in the forward line for the large majority of the game with the occasional pinch hit.

There is winning clearances like Stringer does but he also needs to be accountable to his man (Bont in particular lays plenty of tackles at stoppages). Not sure jake would with his see ball get ball attitude.

It's a term that has been floating around the stats guys for quite a while now. It's basically a stats that counts contested possessions and some uncontested possessions without things like winning a hitout to advantage or taking a contested mark, ie counting just "hard ball gets" and "loose ball gets" together and that's it.

I think it's pretty unanimous - guys like him in the forward line are few and far between. Fix up his set shots and let him loose.

Its interesting. I've probably been the most vocal proponent of Stringer being a longterm mid on our forum for the past few years. I still think if he were to move into the middle he would in good time become a Watson/Voss style beast. However what is the best way to distribute our talent? While its not in then classical manner Stringer has proved he can be a highly productive forward, while we have a glut of talented young midfielders, can you fit Bontempelli, Liberatore, Wallis, Macrae, Stevens, Dahlhaus, Jong and Stringer all in the midfield on a permanent of mostly permanent basis? (not mention guys like McLean, Webb, Hrovat, Daniel and Hunter who could all stake a claim as well) Jake is the easiest to relagate because he's already shown he can be productive somewhere else. He will always spend some time there as Bevo rightly preaches versatillity and he is our most versatile and talented player but I think it will end being more of a 70/30- 75/25 split. Of course if we could aquire another mobile KPF or an injury to one of our great young onballers this could change.

Our forward line has Boyd who is too tall for most KPD, Stringer who is too nimble for strong/tall KPD and too strong for most agile KPD and Crameri who runs most KPD off their feat. Make other teams adjust their structure when they play us.

Jake reminds me of G Ablett senior.. Of course he has a long way to go but Ablett was great when the ball hit the ground, hard to tackle and great on the lead and in the air. Play Jake majority forward pocket /full forward with small stints in midfield.

Stuffed if I know now. But the guy could become an absolute midfield nightmare for opposition in years to come. And I have predicted previously, your boys will already have the finest midfield going round by 2017/18 (already showing now). So perhaps he will only be required to crash through the odd centre bounce before gravitating down forward for the majority of time.
Nice problem to have though. Dogs drafting/trading last coupla years has been impeccable. The reward for that brings about such a happy predicament for Dogs supporters I'm sure!
