Struggling to install a scanner ...

Basically I've had a new computer for about 16 months.

I can't get rid of the old one because the scanner I have will work on the old PC but not the new one!

I attach the scanner and turn it on, then go to the Scanner and Camera installation Wizard (Win XP).

The options are :
Agfa
Casio
Epson
Fujifilm
Hewlett Packard
Kodak
Nikon
Olympus
UMAX Data Systems Inc
Xerox

... but my scanner is an Artec AS6e. Not on the list.

So how do I install it?

Surely you'd think there'd be an "other" or "have disk" option? No?

Might take some searching on the net methinks...

Let us know how ya fare as I'll need to install a scanner on this new laptop soon enough...

There IS a 'have disk' option, but I don't understand what that means.

otaku I've been and go that file, downloaded it about 20 times ... installed it, but nope ... computer fails to recognise that I have plugged anything in.

Surely when I get it to search for connected hardware (which option is always nearly impossible to find) it SHOULD AT LEAST say "well yer got something plugged in here but stuffed if I know what it is"???

If you have the software (ie. the disk) then click that & u should be prompted to insert said disk.

Otherwise it's a hectic net search I think...

Had trouble with the add new hardware when I put in more memory in my old PC, it's far from fool proof.

Some older scanners don't have driver options for later OS's which is a pain. My scanner wouldn't work on Win2000 but a search on Google turned up a decent driver.

Yeah I went through that too. We have a very nice HP scanner that was fairly new when we replaced our computer - and when I went to install it, it tells me it wanted windows 95 or 98. (we have XP) I found the driver fairly easily though, and another bonus is Mum works for HP. :)

Cools! I guess brands like HP have better customer support than the cheaper brands.. thank heck for geeks :)

Hey thanks all youse ! So basically, XP's probably a version which has outgrown my scanner ... BUT on the web I MAY be able to find software which is sort of like a translator? Did I get that right?

Also at worst, someone said scanners are pretty affordable now? $69! Geeze mine was $150.

Okay, might have to bite the bullet, if I can't find a converter software then will throw out the scanner and buy a new one.

Thanks again.
