With the sub rule possibly being changed next year. Has the idea of a sub bench similar to soccer been floated as a possibility? Regardless of the sub staying at one or increasing to two, it would be good for there to be a selection of 3 or so players to choose to sub on. That way the sub can be used either tactically or replace a similar player for injury. Avoiding times when the chosen sub hasn't suited the game/conditions eg Brown against the Hawks (IMO).
Thoughts?

Sorry, I should have included that the normal interchange bench would still exist. KB wanted to only have a 8 sub bench and no interchange IIRC which to me is a bit extreme. Basically the idea above would have the existing 3 (or 4) interchange with an additional sub bench of 3 (or 4). And only 1 (or 2) of those sub bench players could be subbed on. **head explodes**
I prob should edit that into the top post :-P

Surely subs bench would be a bit of a disaster in terms of getting game time into players? Already it's an issue with teams avoiding giving the red vest to the same player too often. A subs bench would mean 3+ players almost getting zero game time each week.

The clubs and the AFLPA won't go for it, the logistics of having four players each week who lose match fitness and trying to manage that are too tough-it's enough of a challenge with one but with four it's too hard, even if you rotate who is the sub.
In theory it's a good idea but in practice it's too unworkable to come in.
