I will also bring this up. The Rwandan civil war in the 1990s between the Hutus and Tutsis where 1 million were dead. That was ignored too
It was in the news regularly.

It's scary how much the world doesn't care about what is happening there. Obviously it's super hard to verify what's happening, I am now only starting to catch up on it a little bit, but reports are that 60-80,000 people have been killed in al-Fashir since October this year. This isn't like conventional fighting from what I am reading, the defending military retreated and the RSF just essentially started going door to door killing civilians. Yet it feels the world just slept through this.

The day after the RSF overran El-Fasher and murdered thousands in the streets, the US Secretary of State landed in Abu Dhabi and was talking about how the UAE is a critical strategic partner advancing America's security.

The UAE are of course supplying money and material to the RSF.

When they took over the Zamzam refugee camp in April and killed men, women and children, their claim was that it was a military zone, and the civilians were being used as human shields by the Army. They've learned well which claims to make to deprive civilians of their legal protection as cover for genocide.

So, to address the OP, based off the lack of interest in this thread it appears that indeed, nobody cares, despite the death toll being way higher than the Gaza's current conflict in just one month.

When Israel/USA isn't involved, nobody gives a shit because there's no opportunity to virtue signal.

Funny that you should try this line - Israel and the UAE have a strong strategic security partnership, along with the US. They are all up to their eyeballs in Sudan and Somalia.

The UAE is directly supplying them for direct access to their gold. I've no doubt their regional 'partners' may get a cut but this war would've been over years ago if the UAE weren't gold obsessed.

Same goes for Russia and Wagner.

The fact that the African genocides get very little attention does make you think that it's at least partially explained by racism or racial bias. I think it's fair to say generally that right wing people in the West don't care about Africans for the most part and they are often isolationist anyway (America first). Left wing activists only care if there is an anti-colonial, anti-Western angle they can spin on it. If it's Africans killing Africans, they don't seem to care all that much.

I think it's at least partly the lack of a vocal Sudanese minority in Australia proudly defending the African genocides, no prominent council/org/associations providing cover and obfuscation, and no unflinching support from the Australian government for either side in Sudan.

In fact the Australian government has longstanding sanctions frameworks in place for Sudan and South Sudan. There's not a whole lot more the Australian government could do on this issue, unlike, say, Israel, who we provide with matériel to help slaughter Palestinians.

Israel-Palestine had way more attention than any African conflict even before Oct 7, so doesn't check out.

Sorry Al Fashir kids, Australia has some sanctions on Sudan and that's enough, good luck I guess. Pressuring our government to apply more sanctions to say the UAE companies that fund the RSF, or threaten to cut ties and weapons exports with the UAE or basically respond in any way isn't really necessary and doesn't feel edgy enough. We super care though, thoughts and prayers.

Yes, Israel's brutal illegal military occupation has been ongoing for over 50 years, of course it's going to be a well-known cause. It's generational. I know I have shown my children the Gaza: Doctors Under Attack documentary, Louis Theroux's The Settlers documentary, etc.

Hey I agree completely - but if you want us to stop trade to every country that then themselves trade with undesirables, hope you don't mind a drastic drop in your living standards.

All this consternation seems a touch hypocritical for someone who admits they knew little of the conflict until now - it's not like it's been kept secret. Were you at the protests in November?

I don't blame people for not knowing about it. I didn't really buy your explanation for people who are aware of it, even vaguely, and don't really seem to care or be motivated to do anything. Chanting slogans among a bunch of sweaty people isn't for me, but now I am aware of it I will do something. I have learned from the scary Jewish lobbies that writing emails to important people can be an effective way of applying political pressure.

Make sure to write on your official letterhead.

Well I am shocked that Australia is United Arab Emirates 4th largest supplier of weapons in a 5 year period.

As far as Sudan's gold is concerned, 13 bullion dollars is a lot of money. But it equates to nothing if it's not used correctly

I don't know why these countries don't make their own weapons. Then again I don't know if they do?

Saudi spending trillions on Neom trash. Could have had some nice bombers.
