Sunday Games

I was having a chat with this guy who was down at my footy today and we were talking about Melbourne's situation and so on, and he asked me how many games i have been to this year. When i told him that i had only been to three, he told me that that was why we were in a bad state, because none of our supporters go to games. Well for me i can't go to the footy often because most of or bloody games are on Sundays and i can't make Sundays because i have my junior footy on.

If You have a look at our fixture, We have 15 matches on sunday, 5 on Saturday and 1 Friday Night. Plus the Monday Queens Birthday weekend. I have gone to every single match that i could, and i will go to the Essendon, Geelong and West Coast matches as well, but because i play my footy on Sundays i can't make most of our games.

I don't mind hacking missing 3 or 4 of our matches kose of my own footy, but when i miss 8, it's kind of annoying.

Is there anybody else that is in the same boat as me, players or parents??

Personally, Sundays work great for me, as I have sport on saturday afternoons/evenings, meaning I only have to miss a few games a year.

I can understand how frustrating it'd be in your position, though. Don't really want to give up either

It's always going to be the way. You screw half the people if you play Saturday and the other half on Sunday. I used to get rolled for the Saturday games all the time in a job I had a few years back.

Sundays don't suit me so much, it's pretty damn hard to drag my hungover ass to the 'G to watch-us get pumped every sunday

Someone always gets screwed it's a fact of life, but Vlad doesn't have to give us so many consecutive games on Sunday does he? Between rounds 5-17 every game is on Sunday except for QB on the monday. We are quite clearly second class citizens

Hopefully Jimmy can throw his weight around a little and secure us a better draw with his higher profile(something he's already mentioned), because it seemed to me like the AFL had zero respect for Gardiner and treated him, & in turn our club, like a bitch

Saturday games crap on Sunday games but Sundays suit me more as I work on Saturdays.

Next year I should be free on Saturdays and I hope we have plenty of games so I can go to the footy then go and get sloshed and recover on Sunday.

The best thing about living close to the G is being able to drag myself there no matter what condition I'm in from the night before. The next best thing is knowing that you don't have far to go home once we've been belted.

my issue with having so many sunday games is the kids - the future of the demons. as far as i'm aware, auskick and juniors is on sundays, yes? this means that the kiddies go play their 10am footy in the burbs, get home round 12, and then mum and dad have to pack them up to get back into the g by 2.10. for a lot of families, this is not possible. if you take a family of 4 that would be at a game on a sat, as opposed to a sunday, and multiply that by a few families, the numbers that cant attend start to add up. jimmy should put this to vlad, in order to boost crowds, something vlad would love. a mixture of saturday and sundays with a couple of night games (exposure!) would be nice!

instead of Demetriou trying to rape and pillage the poorer clubs he should try and get some consitencey in the draw...
Sunday games draw lesser crowds and lesser television viewers, which means sponsors are less likely to jump onboard and it makes it harder to make a good sponsorship deal.

The AFL needs to give everyone the same amount of Friday Night, Saturday, Saturday Nights and Sunday game to every club and stop being a reverse robin hood.. Stealing from the poor and giving to the rich... that prick Demetriou has had enough corporate lunches.. give something back...

G. Lyon had an article in the HUN earlier in the year stating this exact point. Surely this sort of situation would prevent parents from buying m'ships for their kids if they can only use them 3 or 4 times a season.

I'd rather a more even spread of Sat games - hard to celebrate/mourn on a Sunday afternoon. Rather pish it to the wall with a day to recover.

Yeah I can't watch Melbourne play anymore without drinking so Sunday is a pain for work the next day.

More people play their footy on a Saturday arvo, like me, so I quite like our fixture.

Having two winnable Saturday games coming up (Essendon and WC) is annoying though. Hopefully my footy gets changed to a morning time
