This gives more info.

Up to 80 per cent of staff at the AFL and clubs have been stood down without pay as the league imposes austerity measures in the wake of the suspension and possible abandonment of the season due to the coronavirus. The AFL has ordered that only a skeleton staff is to remain at the league headquarters and at every club, with between 70 and 80 per cent of staff immediately stood down without pay. Those who remain on the skeleton staff will have their pay cut. The precise number of staff being stood down at clubs and how the clubs manage those staff may vary.

The league has effectively taken control of all clubs and ordered the measures as they renegotiate with banks to secure lines of credit to keep the competition operating.

Gold Coast and GWS had already told staff they were being cut back to the bare minimum and further meetings were being held at all clubs throughout the day.
The moves come after the league's unprecedented decision to shut down because of the coronavirus crisis.

At least Jon Ralph cleared one part up later.

"Gold Coast has been reported as telling its staff it would stand them down without pay as it told some staff to consider their options.

In fact the Suns only spoke to staff about the nature of the industry shutdown and the potential tenure of the stoppage."

Option 1 : fold, no need to see panic post, getting Brad C from Adelaide again.

Optiok 2 : keep arguing to fold or not to fold question.

Optiok 3 : observe and keep quiet and laugh at those negative nanny, when AFL restart again.

Foxsports.com.au can reveal that the Gold Coast Suns have also started cleaning out the gym at their headquarters in Carrara.

The club has allocated certain equipment to households, with many players living with teammates, to maximise the training they can do during this period.
Players with a history of back, hip and groin issues like David Swallow, Jack Bowes and Nick Holman have been given pilates reformers.

The Suns expect every piece of equipment that can be removed from the club to be removed in the next 24 hours so their players can keep in shape in the coming weeks and months.

Gold Coast’s high performance team will communicate with its players like a lot of people in the professional world via Microsoft Teams, FaceTime and other teleconferencing programs.

the suns won't fold tv rights depend on a national competition. the teams at most risk are victorian.

You followed those League mercenaries for too long Bodsy.
AFL kids understand what's at stake

The challenge has been put to the Titans Blokes. I’ll be watching. As far as I’m concerned they’ve through their insipid efforts on/off the park have put Darryl Kelly and Bec Frizelle in a terrible mess. They owe it to them, the staff, community and long suffering members.

Let’s see who they are.

Absolutely flabbergasted! But in a good way! Less than a week ago the AFLPA were sooking that they were facing a potential 20% cut! To volunteer 50% is a massive stepping stone to ensure the future of footy as we know it stays the same :fire::)

The AFL asked the players to take a 75% to 80% pay cut.

The AFLPA, senior players and club captains, and player managers met and discussed, and have counter offered to take a 50% pay cut for two months, and reassess the situation in two months time.

Ball’s back in the AFL’s court now.
