Dew said Rowell and Anderson could not have prepared better for their debut AFL seasons.

I think what he meant by that was that his every move won't be scritnized by the media like it does in Melbourne. Not the sort to have off field dramas, if that's what you're worried about. prob "what you want" basically walking down the street.

I had no idea the tank on the guy but if you have endurance coupled with his size and explosive abilities, that is special.

Anderson would start in every teams best 22. I can't see why we would struggle to fit the kid in. He is very versatile, has it all and can play inside or out. his biggest weapon being able to kick goals.

Gold Coast bosses were told by Dew and Haines upon their arrival in 2018 that the club reset would take time to deliver, setting out a year-by-year plan on how they would reshape the list and football it was delivering.

They overhauled the coaching and high performance department and made big changes to the list while putting a focus on building the team’s defensive and contested capabilities.
Haines said they understood the cutthroat style of the industry but hoped stability would instigate further improvement, similar to the way Collingwood and Richmond turned themselves around after sticking by Nathan Buckley and Damien Hardwick.

“We understand and were realistic of the reset we took and how much time it can take to build the list,” Haines said.

“Stability a great indicator of success. Not only in the AFL but if you track most sports, particularly team sports, stability is one key indicator.

“Stability is driven by having great alignment internally and having a really clear plan and great trust as well.

“You can’t have stability without other factors. We feel from certainly an alignment point of view, from planning perspective, we are really clear on what the plan looks like.

But Haines said the club had already reached out to Riordan and his management to ensure the contract wasn’t something that would torment him.

“It’s obviously very disappointing for Mitch,” Haines said.

“He impressed everyone in the back half of last year off an non-AFL preparation.

“We have been in contact with his management group and we just encouraged Mitch to focus on his rehabilitation at this stage.

“He has got our full support. We have said lets get that right and the other stuff will sort itself out through the course of the year.”
