He could just need to unwind.

I’m happy for him to go to Las Vegas with DeGoey this post season.

Bring some fun back into the young man’s life
The guy has a room full of old footys and has named each one
I would say the chances of him and JdeG having anything in common other than exceptional footballing ability are exactly zero

This is Rowell's first time full season after OP interrupted pre-season and 100% inside while starting season with only 17 games played.

Not sure how wise is to load Rowell and also Anderson like that but I got to believe that high performance team knows what they are doing. Both running on empty at the moment.

My optimistic prediction, both Rowell and Anderson will be killing it next season provided they are healthy and have full pre-season.

I disagree about Anderson running on empty

Feel like he's gone to another level in the back half of the season to be honest

Not what I saw re-watching Hawks and Cats games. Half games ordinary. Rowell full games. In both games we got destroyed in the middle in first half. Just my opinion.

Think this is where our biggest improvement will be. Anderson is on a steady incline and think he just needs to get a bit stronger. Rowell probably needs to trim down a little and get back to 100% fitness and hopefully can return to what we know he is capable of as a complete inside/outside midfielder. Add miller at his peak, and hollands certain to improve again we have a really strong midfield. Forward line is still young and improving. Defence probably our biggest worry especially with long term injuries still hanging over us.

Will he get a starting position in the All Australian or a bench if he wins it?
Not only should touk get a starting midfield position I think he should be a huge chance to be named captain. Of all players expected to be named I think he shows best leadership qualities, maybe gawn if he gets the nod over witts the other.

He can’t be captain.

We have won 3 games in the second half of the season.

The boys haven’t lifted for Touk or for Dew.
they’ve fallen off the cliff instead much better options out there

Might be right but players have been captain in a low on the ladder team before. I'm probably biased toward touk but what he does for our club is amazing and hope he gets all the accolades he deserves.

True about games won.

But we’ve also only had two bad games, score wise (Essendon and Geelong). Yeah, some disappointments (Hawks, and particularly Essendon), but also some really close losses (Port, Collingwood, Hawks, even Brisbane was a good game). Admittedly, some close wins (Richmond, West Coast).

Compare our ability to run out games, stem bleeding and kick a score to even last year and it is a big, big difference. Just go look at the scores in back end of 2021! We had plenty of games barely scraping 30 points, losing by huge margins most weeks as well.

This year we have performed. Not under performed, not over performed. We have done exactly what our list profile says we should have, as far as I am concerned.

And Touk is an outstanding captain. Probably our second best ever player overall and a true leader in every sense. He learned everything he needed from Swallow and went a step further. The media will agree he is a great role model for the game with his two way running and commitment, and I could see them naming him, at least, as Vice Captain quite easily.

I think that midfield this year was still our weakest link in many games. Too young, inexperienced, not fully up to it physically for the whole season (Anderson, Rowell, Davies). Often teams got on top of us for 1-2 quarters in the middle for decisive runs.

Inability to convert (basically all games except 3-4) also cost us dearly in a lot of games. Falling behind in most games was another big issue forcing us to spend a lot of energy just to come back. Then the impact of bad execution, turnovers.

Contrary to general opinion I believe our defence is pretty good in full strength. Basically every defence struggles when exposed especially when missing important pieces. I don't think any defence would be able to handle the terrible turnovers in Cats game. I was disappointed that we were not able to replace Powell/Weller/Budarick's rebound and Markov, Atkins did not take opportunities.

My main worry in defence is actually Collins. I hope his decline is due to carrying injury or interrupted pre-season and he will come back strong next year. It looks like Powell escaped the worst and should be ready for pre-season. Weller should be ready round 10. You got to expect Andrew will get more games based on his debut.

Forward line looks exciting to me. King, Chol, Jeffrey, Ainsworth, Rosas, Holman looks pretty good to me. I still think that Luko in his new role will deliver. He had a couple of good games there. People seem to forget he had 2 PCLs and missed 10 weeks. He is still not right. Luko reads game better than most. He was waving hands many times in perfect positions and teammates just did not see him or ignore him.

Dew said as much in his last presser
Commenting on Geelong he said they're top of the ladder and travelling beautifully
Then the said something like
"What are we?11th?"
That to me said he has a very good understanding of where we are at the moment
He wasn't sugar coating anything or suggesting we should have brought more heat

I call BS.
Melbourne FC and Sydney are only 2months older then us in age.

Yet we look 4 years behind them

Of cause Dew is going to fake it this late into the season..

because the club has had a disaster of a second half of the season.

Can’t sugar coat 3wins from 11 games

Currently we are only 3 wins from 9 games post bye. Win this weekend and we are 4 from 10, far from ideal, but not the unmitigated disaster being made out.

Age is only 1 tell, I would be interested in game experience of the squads before commenting on where we should be as a football club list.

We have plenty of older guys pushing up the age average but not games average.

List of players who are well below their age/games expectations; 22 games x 10 = 220 games
Mabior Chol (25) 50 games
Nick Holman (27) 91 games
Brayden Fiorini (24) 76 games
Sam Day (29) 149 games
Rory Thompson (31) 106 games

Chris Burgess (26) 35 games
Levi Casboult (32) 174 games
Charlie Constable (23) 13 games
Jy Farrar (25) 24 games

This "age bracket" is suppose to be when players are at their peak 25-29 range. From 7-10 years into the system thats 140=200 games at least experience they should have but barely any of them have that much.

Melbourne's Premiership list had (Minus 21 games for most of them)
Steven May (30) 190 games
Christian Salem (27) 141 games
James Harmes (26) 140 games
Christian Petracca (28) 148 games

There is a massive gap in age of our list due to a number of failed picks

4 years 2013 - 2016 - 10 first round picks
3.5 best 22 players in 2022
There is the 24 - 28 year olds.

We all know the club has been abhorrent in this area but seeing it on paper like this is just beyond depressing. Nothing is a sure bet, I get that but hey a hobo flicking numbered peanuts at an alley wall and choosing the one that fell closest would have a similar winning percentage to our “experts”. Either that or our coaching an development team have ruined many young men. I fear it’s a mix of both.

It's not just our top 30 picks that were crap.
During that period we had 2 late picks go on to achieve anything in Saad and Macpherson. Jared Ellis, Cameron Loersch, Louis Herbert, Tom Keough, Mckenzie Willis etc.. WTF.

Flicking through a few other random teams - they've got so much more out of those lesser regarded picks.
Melbourne: Harmes, Hunt, Oscar Mcdonald, ANB
Port: DBJ, Amon, Houston, Ladhams, Sam Gray
Eagles: McGovern, Nelson, Rioli, Waterman
Hawks: Lewis, Morrison, Harwick, Sicily, Cellar
Swans: Rampe, Aliir, Papley, Dawson, Nick Newman, Darcy Cameron, Robbie Fox, Ben Ronke,

And we’re miles off because we pick average footballers.. play X amount of games then run around in the VFL collecting the pension.

Not to mention the amount of players we’ve got on the list for 5 odd years for 20 odd games.

Or there’s players like Wright and brodie who will probably play 100 games for there new club..

Waste of time money and resources.

The recruitment department needs a good proper review

Most of those issues with draft picks stem from one Scott Clayton, who went on to help ruin West Coast and then North Melbourne…

Has to be up there with one of the worst list and recruitment managers to consistently get a job.

Don’t forget Kall Burns has been involved in recruiting for a very long time at this club
