Yes was about to pop in here and post both stevens and broughton both worth a look.Broughton should be back playing down back and maybe stints in the middle after the lose of caddyshack. And stevens could be the luke parker/brad ebert of 2013.Not sure if he can play other roles because young wallis and libba boyd etc are all pure mids along with coonie and cross/griffen.

Broughton is a definite supercoach option now, should be given plenty of time in the midfield. Hoping that Stevens is no more than $150k, only played a couple of games as a sub from memory last season, should make an impact in the Dogs engine room right away.

Stevens played 4 matches last year at an average of 31 a match, could be low to mid 200's with that I reckon.

Broughton back into considerations now. Really have my eye on afew suns players this pre season. Ablett & Jaeger bomb look like locks at this stage. I'll be keeping an eye on Broughton, Bennel & Prestia amongst others too.

Goldy or NicNat to partner Luey will be my hardest decision. With McIntosh gone Goldy will go back to his 110 average form again you'd think. But NicNat is already at that level, aswell as more improvement and the new 'non contact' ruck rules favor him I believe too. Tough choice.

Ablett, Pendles, Murphy, Rockliff/Fyfe/Mundy (hopefully the first two are DPP), Crouch, Omeara looks like my starting mids at this stage. Viney a lock on the bench too. But what are peoples thoughts on Jack as a premium? Also everyone is getting on Cotchin, Might go Lids as a unique.

Backs and Forwards look very hard to pick.

Harder to pick than a broken nose.

It's been confirmed that Broughtz will be DEF/FWD next year. Hmmmmmm.

Round 11 premiums mids will be gold due to byes. Kennedy just came massively into consideration.

It's as if they want us to pick him.
Greg the Skeg has just that little bit too much upside to ignore in 2013 for mine. Interested to see how he fits in with the Gold Coast lads after being a long term WA boy. He's in my starting lineup

Who will do the 'Harley Bennel' and breakout into premium in only their second year? I'm backing Treloar to average 95+ as a forward.

Ok, I have put together a Phantom draft for SuperCoach HQ and given reasons to pick that player in your SuperCoach Side in 2013.

Pick 1 – GWS – Lachie Whitfield – 184cm/77kg – Midfielder
Whitfield is clearly the best player in this year’s draft pool. Whitfield is a hard running midfielder with great endurance who wins a lot of the football and when Whitfield gets the ball he uses it well to help bring his teammates into the game. Whitfield is a fantastic young player and will be an elite midfielder for the Giants for many years to come as he is a nice kick, has a high footy IQ and has great endurance.

Why the Giants will pick him – Whitfield is the best player in the draft, so it’s a no-brainer that will take him straight away at Pick 1. Whitfield will be part of a formidable midfield at GWS in the coming years.
SuperCoach 2013 – Whitfield will be the most expensive rookie next year, as he will be priced at around $200k. But he will be worth it, as he is a ball magnet and a safe rookie midfield option.

Pick 2 – GWS – Jimmy Toumpas – 182cm/78kg – Midfielder/Backmen
Toumpas is one of the top midfielders in the draft, but he can also play down back, similar to how Luke Hodge or
Bryce Gibbs plays. Toumpas is a very damaging and classy player, but could start his career down back for the Giants, as he is very versatile and cool under pressure.

Why the Giants will pick him – Toumpas is the second best player in this year’s draft and is someone the Giants need down back and can push into the midfield as well.
SuperCoach 2013 – Toumpas will be priced pretty highly just like Whitfield, but if he can secure a midfield/ defender DPP, then he would have to be considered. Toumpas should suit the SuperCoach scoring system, as he is a very damaging player.

Pick 3 – GWS – Brodie Grundy – 202cm/100kg – Ruckman
Grundy is the best young ruckman in the draft. Grundy is pretty agile for someone his size and will provide a contest in the ruck from his first game. Grundy will be fighting with Giles for the number one ruck spot at the Giants, so he could start his career up forward and he will create a headache for defenders because of his size and mobility.

Why the Giants will pick him – Grundy could easily slip down to Port at pick #7 if the Giants are going to pick up Tippett. But I reckon the Giants will pick him up as they already have enough quality midfielders and Grundy can replace Giles in the ruck in a few years time.
SuperCoach 2013 – Grundy is a young ruckman so he won’t score well straight away and might not play at AFL level, as he will be given time to develop, so you might be better off picking a cheaper ruckman.

Pick 4 – Melbourne – Ollie Wines – 185cm/83kg – Midfielder
Wines is a big bodied, tough inside midfielder who wins his own ball, works hard all day, racks up a lot of possessions and when he doesn’t have the ball he will go hunting for it, as he is a strong tackler. Wines is ready to play at AFL level and will play for the Demons in round one.

Why the Demons will pick him – I would expect Wines to join good mate Jack Viney at pick 4 and is another tough midfielder who will replace Brent Moloney.
SuperCoach 2013 – Will get game time at the Dees and will be a solid scorer as he wins a lot of the ball and tackles. Wines is ready for round one so lock him into your midfield.

Pick 5 – Western Bulldogs – Jonathan O’Rourke – 183cm/75kg – Midfielder
O’Rourke is a highly skilful midfielder he uses the ball well by hand and foot and knows where the goals are. O’Rourke runs all day, has a huge tank and has all the right skills to be a future elite midfielder for the Doggies.

Why the Bulldogs will pick him – If O’Rourke is available at pick 5, then the Bulldogs will snap him up straight away. O’Rourke is another midfielder for the Dogs, who will go onto replace Boyd and Cross. I wouldn’t be surprised to see O’Rourke go to the Giants at pick 3.
SuperCoach 2013 – The Bulldogs are in rebuilding mode, so expect to see O’Rourke a lot next year. Runs all day and uses the ball well, so definitely consider him in your midfield.

Pick 6 – Western Bulldogs – Lachie Plowman – 192cm/84kg – Key Defender
Plowman is an attacking defender who will provide plenty of rebound for the Doggies down back. Plowman can play on the smalls and talls and is one of the best defenders in this year’s draft and he is very composed down back for a young man.

Why the Bulldogs will pick him – With the departures of Lake, Hargrave and Gilbee there are some massive gaps down back at the Bulldogs. Plowman will fill these gaps, as he can shut down his opponent and provide rebound for his team.
SuperCoach 2013 – Consider as he should get games, but being a key defender don’t expect him to score highly. Might be a good cash cow and defensive bench option.

Pick 7 – Port Adelaide – Sam Mayes – 187cm/78kg – Forward/Midfielder
Mayes has the ability to win the ball in the midfield and then go forward and boot some goals. Mayes is a great kick of the football, which will bring him teammates into the game and is very versatile.

Why the Power will pick him – Being a SA boy and having the ability to play in the midfield and up forward to a high level will appeal to the Power. Power would be happy if they could pick up Mayes at 7, as he could easily go earlier in the draft.
SuperCoach 2013 – Finds the football and kicks goals. Should get games early for the Power and if he can be selected both as a midfielder and forward then consider him.

Pick 8 – Brisbane – Kristian Jacksch – 194cm/83kg – Key Defender/Key Forward
Jacksch can play at either end of the ground to a high level and is a very strong mark of the footy and great kick for goal up forward. While down back he reads the play well and can set up an attack from defence for his team with his pinpoint accuracy kicking.

Why the Lions will pick him – Jacksch can play up forward or down back at a high level, which will appeal to the Lions. The Lions might be more interested in a midfielder at Pick 8, which means Jacksch could slip down the draft order.
SuperCoach 2013 – Can go forward take a grab and kick a goal, which will get you some nice SuperCoach scores. If he is given games early then consider, but I believe it will be tough for Jacksch to break into the Lions line up straight away, barring injuries.

Pick 9 – Richmond – Jackson Macrae – 189cm/76kg – Midfielder/Forward
Macrae can play both in the midfield up forward. Macrae is a great kick of the football and can accumulate a lot of the football. When he is up forward he doesn’t waste opportunities, as he is an accurate kick. If the Tigers pick up Macrae he might have to start his career up forward as the Tigers have a strong midfield.

Why the Tigers will pick him – If Macrae is still available at pick 9, Richmond will pounce on him. Will start his career in the forward line, but will replace Tuck in the Tigers midfield in a few years time.
SuperCoach 2013 – Macrae will have to work hard if he wants to break into the Tigers line up. He will have to play up forward, but can kick goals. Consider him in your SuperCoach side if he is named in Round one, but Macrae could be named as the sub for the Tigers many times this year due to his versatility.

Pick 10 (F/S) – Essendon – Joe Daniher – 201cm/89kg – Key Forward/Ruckman
If Daniher weren’t a Father/Son selection then he would challenge Whitfield for being selected at pick 1. Daniher is a great prospect and will be a great player for the Bombers for many years to come. He’s a very good mark of the ball and is the best key forward in the draft. Daniher is athletic for his size and will cause problems for defenders in the future because of his size and mobility.

Why the Bombers will pick him – Daniher is one of the steals of the draft at pick 10 and the Bombers will be delighted they could pick him up under the Father/Son rule.
SuperCoach 2013 – Daniher won’t be rushed into the AFL, so don’t expect too many games from him this year. But if he can be selected as both a forward and ruckman and is named round one, he will be very tempting for many coaches.

Pick 11- Carlton – Jake Stringer – 191cm/91kg – Utility
Stringer is one of the most talented young prospects in this draft, but he suffered a broken leg last year and is yet to get back to his best, which would scare some clubs off. Stringer can play anywhere on the ground and works hard all day for his team. Stringer always attacks the ball with ferocity and knows how to kick a goal.

Why the Blues will pick him – The Blues would be rapt if he could slip to 11, as he is very talented and can play in any position that will appeal to the Blues.
SuperCoach 2013 – With Stringer being so versatile, the Blues should be able to fit him into their best 22. But he could often be used as the sub, so watch over the NAB Cup to see how he goes and if he is named in round one then consider him.

Pick 12 – GWS – Troy Menzel – 187cm/77kg – Midfielder/Forward
Menzel is another player who is very talented, but his injury concerns have scared some clubs off. Just like his brother Daniel, Troy’s knees are a concern for clubs. He is a very skilful player in the midfield, but can go up forward and boot a few goals as well. He is an athletic midfielder who runs all day.

Why the Giants will pick him – GWS have already got a lot of quality midfielders, so they can afford to take a risk at pick 12 with Menzel. If he can overcome his injury concerns, he will be a steal at pick 12.
SuperCoach 2013 – Menzel could play up forward as I can’t see him fitting into the Giants midfield just as yet, but could kick a few goals so watch him over the NAB Cup to see how he goes.

Pick 13 – Gold Coast – Ben Kennedy – 174cm/74kg – Forward/Midfielder
Kennedy is a small midfielder, but knows how to find the footy. The Suns would be happy to add another quality midfielder into their side: Kennedy is pretty fast, uses the ball well, knows where the goals are and puts a lot of pressure on the opposition, as he is a great tackler. Kennedy plays a bit like Brent Harvey, as he is undersized but is pretty quick and can kick a goal.

Why the Suns will pick him – Kennedy will add more depth to their midfield and can play up forward where he kicks goals and can put pressure on defenders.
SuperCoach 2013 – Gets a lot of the ball, tackles and kicks goals. Should get games at the Suns and if he can be selected as both a midfielder and forward then definitely consider.

Pick 14 – GWS – Tom Clurey – 193kg/85cm – Key Defender
Clurey is one of the top defenders in the draft. He shuts down his opponents but also has the ability to rebound from defence and set up an attack for his team. Clurey is a great playmaker and he uses the ball well for a key position player.

Why the Giants will pick him – The Giants midfield, forward and ruck stocks are already strong enough and they need another key defender to help Davis and Mohr out.
SuperCoach 2013 – Is a key defender so won’t score to well. Might struggle for games this year as Davis, Mohr and Gilham will all be in front of him.

Pick 15 – North Melbourne – Nick Vlastuin – 187cm/83kg – Midfielder/Defender
Vlastuin is a tough player who can play in the midfield or down back. Vlastuin is great in congested situations and will win the footy on most occasions. He is also great defensively and the tackles hard, as well as using the ball well and having a huge tank.

Why the Kangaroos will pick him – Vlastuin is the best available player in the draft at pick 15 and North would pick him straight away. Can play down back or in the midfield, versatility which will appeal to North.
SuperCoach 2013 – Will be hard to break into the North line up. When he plays he tackles and wins a lot of the ball so will be a good SuperCoach scorer. If he were named in round one, you would have to consider him.

Pick 16 – Geelong – Dayle Garlett – 180cm/75kg – Midfielder/Forward
Garlett is an excitement machine and a very talented and skilful midfielder with a lot of pace, who can drift forward and boot a goal. Garlett is a game breaker and will quickly become a crowd favourite down at Geelong, as he can turn around a game single handily with his run and carry.

Why the Cats will pick him – They need to bring a young midfielder into their side as Bartel, Corey, Kelly and co. aren’t getting any younger. Garlett is pretty exiting and will be a future star for the Cats.
SuperCoach 2013 – Should get games and is an influential player who will be suited to the SuperCoach scoring system as he uses it well and kicks goals.

Pick 17 – Fremantle – Mason Shaw – 197cm/82kg – Key Forward
Shaw is a big sized forward who can take a big grab and kick bags of goals. Shaw is an accurate kick for goal and doesn’t waste opportunists when he gets them. Shaw is one of the best key forwards in the draft and defenders will find it hard to match up on him in a few years if he can bulk up, as he is pretty tall.

Why the Dockers will pick him – Shaw is from Western Australia and the Dockers need another key forward to go alongside Pavlich and Mayne.
SuperCoach 2013 – Key forwards normally take a while to develop and Shaw will be given time to develop in the WAFL. Ross Lyon doesn’t play the kids straight away so he won’t play much this season and there are better rookie forward options.

Pick 18 – Collingwood - Nathan Hrovat – 174cm/76kg – Midfielder
Hrovat is a small midfielder who wins a lot of the football. Even though he might be under-sized, he attacks the ball and tackles strongly for a small man. Hrovat is composed on the field and makes the right decisions and is a great kick of the ball.

Why the Magpies will pick him – The Magpies will pick him because he is the best player available in the draft at pick 18. He will be a ball magnet just like Dane Swan and he could be his replacement in a few years time.
SuperCoach 2013 – Hrovat should be a fantastic player, but he will struggle to break for games this season at Collingwood.

Pick 19 – Collingwood – Tim Membrey – 188cm/87kg – Forward
Membrey is a strong and toughly built forward who is ready to play at AFL level. He is a strong mark and can kick bags of goals, and is also physically strong and pretty agile.

Why the Magpies will pick him – With Dawes leaving, Collingwood need another forward. Even though Membrey isn’t that tall, he is strong and ready to play at AFL level straight away. He also has a tattoo on his arm that will appeal to Collingwood.
SuperCoach 2013 – Ready to play at AFL level in round one. But will he fit in the Pies best 22? Consider if he is named in round one as he can kick goals.

Pick 20 – Adelaide - Sam Colquhoun – 179cm/72kg – Defender
Colquhoun is a classy defender who will provide the Crows with plenty of run and carry out of defence. Colquhoun will rack up a lot of the ball playing at halfback and when he gets the ball he does something positive with it.

Why the Crows will pick him – Colquhoun is from SA and Adelaide could do with another small defender.
SuperCoach 2013 – Colquhoun is a great option down back for SuperCoach. He will get a lot of the ball and should get games for the Crows.

Pick 21 – Collingwood – Nick Graham – 183cm/79kg – Midfielder
Graham is another tough midfielder who attacks the ball with ferocity. Graham uses the ball well by hand and foot and is a great tackler. Graham can drift forward from the midfield and kick a goal too.

Why the Magpies will pick him – Another young midfielder who will replace Ball and Swan in a few years time. Attacks the ball and tackles and is just what the Magpies will need if they lose Luke Ball.
SuperCoach 2013 – Will struggle to get a game in 2013 at the Magpies, as he is more of a long-term prospect for them. There are better midfield options for your SuperCoach side.

Pick 22 – Western Bulldogs – Matthew Haynes – 189cm/74kg – Midfielder
Haynes is a dashing outside midfield that can break a game open with his pace. Haynes has a lot of x-factor about him because he is pretty fast for someone his size and is pretty versatile. Haynes could play anywhere on the ground, but I believe we’ll see that he’ll play his best footy running off a wing.

Why the Bulldogs will pick him – The Bulldogs could do with some more dash in their midfield and Griffen could help Haynes play the same role as him in the future.
SuperCoach 2013 – Haynes should get games early, but I won’t be expecting him to score to high, as he doesn’t win a lot of the football. Will be a good cash cow if he plays games though.

Pick 23 – Sydney – Jesse Lonergan 183cm/86kg – Midfielder
Lonergan is a tough inside midfielder who attacks the ball aggressively. Lonergan is a strong tackler and will win the clearances for his team. Lonergan is a good user of the ball and his toughness around the contest is impressive.

Why the Swans will pick him – The Swans need a tough inside midfielder to replace Bolton, O’Keefe, Goodes and McVeigh as they are all ageing. Lonergan will add even more depth to Sydney’s already strong midfield.
SuperCoach 2013 – Won’t get games in 2013. Sydney’s midfield is very strong and there are other young players in front of him.

Pick 24 – Brisbane – Josh Simpson – 183cm/72kg – Midfielder/Forward
Simpson is a very quick midfielder who will add some spark and x-factor to any team’s midfield. Simpson uses the ball well by both foot and hand and can easily get past the opposition with his great evasion skills. Simpson is also very dangerous up forward and will kick goals and put pressure on defenders.

Why the Lions will pick him – The Lions would be very happy to see Simpson slide to them at pick 24. Brisbane needs another good outside midfielder with pace who will add some x-factor to their midfield and can kick a goal up forward.
SuperCoach 2013 – Probably won’t get game time in 2013 as he is pretty light and will need a few pre seasons under his belt to bulk up before he is ready to play footy at AFL level.

Don’t forget about Jack Viney who will be selected at pick 27 for Melbourne.

Pick 27 (F/S) – Melbourne – Jack Viney – 178cm/80kg – Midfielder
Viney is another tough midfielder who is ready to play at AFL level straight away. He will win a lot of contested possessions for the Dees and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty for his team. Viney has a good tank, is a very good tackler and is a ball magnet.

Why the Demons will pick him – Viney is another Father/Son steal at pick 27 and Melbourne was very happy they didn’t have to use pick 4 on him. If the Dees can secure Ollie Wines as well, then it would be a great result for Melbourne as they have got two hard inside midfielders who are ready to play at AFL level.
SuperCoach 2013 – Lock him in. Will be cheap and is guaranteed game time at the Dees. Viney is ready to play round one and will be a solid SuperCoach scorer as he wins a lot of contested ball and tackles.

Thanks and give me your thoughts!

Wines is my only rookie from this years draft (excluding Crouch, Omeara and Viney) I have locked at this stage. Especially if he goes to GWS or Melbourne. he averages 145 sc in the TAC cup this year. I know it's easier for him with his bigger body against smaller bodies but I'm confident he can get a 75+ average in his first year. Reminds me of Greene last year. If he can be half as good as Greene he will be a good pick.

Yer same O'Mera, Crouch, Viney and Wines will be good.

Got this off fanfooty, but a players average when given the captaincy usually goes up. Here is some from the past.

Callan Ward 89 to 106
Matthew Boyd 106 to 115
Jack Grimes 78 to 88
Joel Selwood 111 to 117
Jobe Watson 101 to 107
What does this make for Cotchin and others yet to be announced (Murphy? Ebert) next year? Will they make improvements based on these past players?

I think all it says is clubs pick Captains when going into their prime footballing yrs.

Wouldn't think clubs name rookies or declining stars as captain.

Lol that was me Crossy

Regardless of captaincy or not, Cotchin is a gun and will break into the top 3 midfield scorers next season imo. Excellent disposal and the ability to win contested ball plus snag goals is supercoach gold.

I know what your saying Oz, but I reckon the captaincy will be a good thing for Cotchin. Here is the little article I wrote
http://jroo8.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/possible-new-captains-of-2013-and-how.html

I think you make some very good points however outside of Boyd, the list of captains are all relatively young players whom I think would have improved their points production based on natural progression anyway. We could pick other 3rd or 4th year players such as Beams for example, no captaincy but he increased his points production markedly based on natural progression and the added responsibility of slotting in to Luke Ball's midfield role. Basically, I think there are more variables in why players increase their points averages than merely being given the captaincy, although that certainly could be a factor for a subset of players.

I would also throw up the name Jack Trengove, had a pretty terrible season despite being given the (co)captaincy, his average went down from 87.7 in 2011 to 73.5 in 2012.

With regards to Cotchin, from all reports he is a natural leader so I think Richmond would be stupid to not give him the responsibility.

Yer I know what you mean and was thinking the same thing. For example Ward, could have increased due to more opportunity and he is just improving and not because of the captaincy, but just found it interesting and wanted to share with you guys :)
