I know its very early days and the players havent started their pre season in Melbourne yet, but interested to see who people think will take the next step in the seniors and be a supercoash gem.
As we are the premiers, teams will rightfully so be loaded with collingwood players so my specials are as follows:

Dale Thomas - coming into his 6th year and coming into his own. Great user and accomulator of the footy with our midfield depth, going to look at him instead of pendles purely for value as he keeps going from strength to strength. Will never loose his place in the premiership side.

Dayne Beams - No doubt this year was his best year so no reason to think he wont get better yet not 100% on this on purely because there wont be a huge amount of value in his price for 2011. His an out and out gun and if he picked up a yard of pase this year could be the daniel kerr of old. Again will not loose his place so he'll make my side.

Andrew Krakouer - Has to make the team could be anything. Will move into the midfield rotation and fills a small weakness in our side in the high half forward. Should move ahead of leon and Blair and come at a fair price so there is a spot for Krak dont snap in the team. your in.

Tom Young - Fist bench player picked for my backline. 192cm reads the play beautifuly and will no doubt get a game and IMO keep his spot. Again fills a small percieved weakness in the side in the defensive running HB / BP currently ben Johnsons spot. Johno is first choice no doubt, did a sensational job but not getting younger and only other real depth competition is Buckley. Tommy young will be a gun lock it in opposition supporters. Saw this kid in an intra club match as a 17yo last year and dominated. at 94k or whatever he will he makes Njacs side. Will be good to see a true ranger in the black and white also.

Last Gem is in the number 4 ruck spot. Lachlan Keeffe. Reports say his flying and his mobility at 2004cm if and when given the chance will be alot better than Warnock. Not sure who's place he'll take with taz now in the back line, but possibly sitting on the pine as a sub if big leighroy looses his spot. Again 4th ruck spot so not a lot lost but i would say he has moved ahead of wood as our 3rd ruck option.

Other mentions Luke Rounds - Dont know to much about him. And D swan, best player in the team and will have another huge season to win the Brownlow he should have..
Your thoughts?

Off the top of my head;

Pendlebury; Coaches keep saying he has improvement in him, if he improves, could be a league leader in SC or DT.

Harry O'Brien; Had a good year, averaging 75-80, but he may be used in a more attacking role with Tarrant, Reid and Brown taking the talls next year.

Krakouer; Obvious, might not pick him straight up, will wait and see what he does in the NAB Cup.

Dayne Beams; Will want to prove a point after his "silliness" post GF, and has all the ability in the world. Better DT then SC player I reckon though.

Wellingham; Will have a huge 2011, smoky for the Copeland IMO.

Premiums: Swan, Pendles, Didak, Shaw, Jolly, Thomas (only if listed as a forward again)
Improvers: Wellingham, Dick
New players: Krakouer, Tarrant, Young, Rounds, Keefe
Smokies: Davis, McCarthy, Cloke, Dawes, Buckley, Macaffer

Others like Beams and Sidebottom will probably improve but not enough to select them, as they'll be too expensive as a cheap-midrange player and won't end up being premiums.

Pendlebury is a must have for any team, he will be expensive but you can build a SC midfield around him

Krak is obvious, while two interesting ones are Macaffer and Reid. Both showed over the year they can score highly, especially the Caff. Depending on price, they could be good 5-7th players in their areas of the field.

Shit, he is big!
Actually, in all seriousness, it'd be great to see another ruckmen out there. If he gets a game before Woods, then what the hell is Woods good for?

I reckon Cloke will be unders.

Only needs to fix his kicking to maximise his points..

Does all the other key point scoring indicators well

Don't like many Pies players value-wise in SC. They all scored pretty well last year, and it was last year that you got good value by loading up with Pies players.

-I think Krakeour is definitely worth looking at to see how he goes in the pre-season.
-Dale Thomas is a must if they are silly enough to put him in the forward line. It's always good to have mids in your forward line.
-I've had Pendlebury for a number of years and will probably go again, but would be happy if he averaged the same as last year.

Although OP Says SC I play both DT and SC but most of my foucs is on DT so most of the stuff below is form a DT perspective.

Swan, is obviously the big one and will be a lock captain from round 1 for many.

Pendlebury is the one I find really intriguing was considering him but after Neelds comments in his review I am starting to consider him a lock for my team next year. Pendlebury is my favourite player and I can see him moving form A grader to elite next year, both as a player and in his DT and SC scores. I think he could even overtake Swan as Collingwood’s no.1 midfielder and highest DT SC scorer. Could provide excellent value especially if you were to select him over swan or Ablett as your lock captain for the year.

Wellingham, at times averaged almost enough to be a lower end Midfield keeper, would expect improvement form him.

Jolly is another to consider had a horror start to the season but got back on track in the seacond half I can't see him providing much value or improvement in his scores but at the same time I doubt he will drop in price.

Karakouer is another big one for me, could provide serious value I will strongly consider him as 6th or 7th forward or (depending on what he is priced at) as a bench option I'm not entirely sure if he will be selected for round 1 but even if he’s not I think he could be well worth a bench spot if you have the money.

Sidebottom is one I will consider could fit into the third year rule but I think I will be reluctant to select him unless he is available as a forward. I would classify Beams in a similar position to Sidebottom.

The only others I would consider are Dick, who even if fit for round 1 I am unlikely to select due to his injury woes. And Macaffer who I considered at t eh start of last year but properly will not select as he will be a little bit too pricey.

On the OP i wouldn't be selecting guys like Young and Keefe from round 1 as you want your bench players playing early, instead I will have them on my radar although with Rounds and Buckley to use to downgrade options although I think this will be unlikely as I can't see them being able to hold their positions long term. Although I said the same about Blair and Macffer last season.

57 average? no thanks. Has the ability to pull out a 70-80 game occasionaly, put also a 20-30 game too.
You can't just look at someone's average and write them off completely. I'm not saying Reid is a good DT or SC pick, but he did average 72 DT and 79 SC from rounds 11-22 (excluding Geelong game due to injury). It's a bit harsh to include Reid's early games as he was clearly getting use to AFL and just trying to keep his spot.

I won't be getting hm in either comp, but I'm just saying we have to look more at just an overall year avearge as it often doesn't reflect what they can actually do the next season.

Sharrod Wellingham looks a great pick, averaged 98 DT and 98 SC early in the first 6 games before getting some niggling injuries. Will be in both of my teams for sure!

I wouldn't be putting Tom Young on the bench. Be extremely difficult for him to step into our defence without an injury.

Be much better scouring the top 30 draft picks and checking opposition club websites for young players most likely to get a start.

I also tend to agree that there wont be much value for money with Pies players. Krakoeur would be the exception, but the rest already even money or over valued.

La Traviata might be another one worth punting on because if he can screw a few more in - and I reckon the GF will have taken a bunch of pressure off him - he could pay handsomely, presuming he's fairly cheap. That said, best to have rotating mid / half forwards than KP players, Reiwoldt and possibly Brown / Fev excepted. Those last two might be getting a bit geriatric though to pick this year.

The reason you don't pick players like Reid is because they're already priced at an average price and you know they're not going to be keepers (as in he's not a high possession player). He might make you $50k-$100k but you should only pick players you're either going to keep in your team all year or will increase by at least $150k. This is for SC.

Of course, and as I said I won't be picking Reid in my team. But considering he averaged 80 SC in the second half of the season, with added improvement he could average 85 or so for the whole season. And for those on the Collingwood board that might just be casual players, they might take Reid at a price of 66 if you thought he could average 80-85ppg.

Also, you can't simply say he won't be a keeper because he isn't a high posesion player. Look at someone like Troy Chaplin. Similar to Reid, he doesn't get a heap of the ball. Averaged 19 disposals per game but managed an SC average of 88. Completely different situation in that Chaplin doesn't have as many players to steal points from him, but players don't have to get a lot of the ball to be a good SC'er.

Anyway I'm getting off topic and probably sounded like a dick so I'll leave it at that.:p

I guess it depends on how well your team is going and what you call a keeper. For me in the backline I need someone who averages 90+ or will go up $150k+ which means no to Reid.

But I do get what you were saying about looking at their whole year and breaking it down. Wellingham is a good example of that. Take out the games in the middle of the year when he came back from injury and his average goes up a lot, but even taking out Reid's first games I can't see him being a good pick for 2011. I'd like to be wrong but I don't see it happening with the position he plays.

I'm looking at: Swan, Pendlebury (as premiums)
Possible: D.Thomas (if listed as forward), A.Krak (if on the cheap), D.Jolly (if I don't find any other ruckman I like)

If 2 games and listed for a 3rd I might look at: L.Rounds, J.Thomas, S.Buckley, B.Sinclair, L.Keeffe, T.Hunter, S.Reed, S.McNamara.

Probably not going to look at any other pies.
