Rather than ask me about the host, they asked what I thought of the content.

Content is fine, but the host is rubbish.

LOL, I just checked it to make sure there hadn't been a recent update to make me change my opinion and the site said it was down, I refreshed it and after 30 seconds, the page appears!

Crappy Bigpuddle.

all afl wesbites are pathetic, i mean even the contnt provided is shocking
at least during pre season they should chuck photos up on the site of the boys training, i know it wont happen but honestly all the AFLs websites are jokes

A real shame actually. It was bad before Telstra got hold of it and now it is virtually un-navigable (word?) Like I said here recently, by the time I can find anything on the CFC website our list has usually changed.

AFL + CFC are both rubbish websites. Take way too long to load up, and ours needs to be updated more regularly. Is Mick Martyn still one of our listed players??

Am i right in saying that because they are part of the AFL, they cannot go out and design their own website, and not be tied in with the AFL?

Would be a whole lot better if they could do that. Throw some money into it, and make it a thoroughly better website than the one we have to put up with now.

I would really like to see players' height and weight updated annually.

A player like Mark Austin for example was drafted as a 17y.o. at 193.4cm and 88.2kgs. Many of us have high hopes for him to develop into KPP who may hold down CHB or even CHF for many years to come. Surely in his first few years at the club he will put on a few cm's and many kg's and I think many of us would love to see that progress!

After selling the TV rights to 7 and 10 for $780M, the AFL also sold what they called the 'new media' rights to Tesltra for $60 or $70M for the same 5 year period. This gives Telstra the rights to (control of) all AFL internet and mobile telephone services.

The AFL and individual clubs' websites are definitely part of this deal.

From the look of these sites, it seems as though Telstra have developed a basic template and host and manage the sites and the clubs simply provide the content.

Of course the club could put the money into it, but I imagine they would be very restricted in terms of being able to call it 'the official website of' the Carlton Football Club or something.

Perhaps the club could financially back the Blueseum and turn it into the site that we all wish the CFC website could be.

But surely that website has some sort of quality guarantee. I mean, the AFL website would have to be close the single worst website in existence. Its impossibly slow, difficult to navigate and has a confusing layout. It doesn't meet any of the fundamental requirements for being an efficient website?

I agree 100% that the AFL should be able to enforce some sort of quality/service guarantee from Tesltra with regard to these sites, but after seeing how badly 7 butchered their footy coverage this year I am not very hopeful that they can or will

You would think they could spend an hour at least at the end of each season to update player profiles??

Jameson Doesn't have a write up, and Aisake's says to look out for him in the bullants in 2006??

Essendon has their own website aswell as the dodgy Telstra one.

Theirs is quite good

I've been banging on about this for years. The AFL streaming service is appalling. There was a representative on the main board last year answering peoples concerns regarding the site. He can up with garbage answers such as "the pipe coming out of Australia is too small for video". Straight out lie, simple as that. People are paying a premium for the service of a replay, plus their own bandwidth and they leave ad breaks in and generally commentary between quarters.

I build websites in the U.K. for some of the biggest companies in the world, working via the worlds leading agencies, and this type of thing is really embarrassing. I have written to telstra, the AFL and even to the London media outlets in an attempt to shame the AFL, and nothing happens. They do not care.

The AFL looks to broaden its market, compete with rugby and soccer and then completely abandons its most important long term market and utterly disregards the fans.

The carlton website was displaying information from last year.

The complaints and feedback form go no where, literally so the AFL simply doesn't even know there is a problem.

Backwards.

Spot on HBF.

Like Channels 7 & 10 own the TV rights, MMM, 3 Always Wrong, SEN, and ABC own radio rights, Telstra own the AFL and 16 clubs rights to the internet and multi media streams.

In full agreement with you there. Its a nightmare but the AFL don't give a **** as they get 60 - 70 mil for the rights, their interest is money.

Fonzie is still dining out on how much money he managed to receive for the rights.

I'm studying multimedia, what language do you code in?

Would go past the site just about everytime I went on my computer this time last year - now, I rarely check it. If your looking for stats and player info, not even worth bothering with. The only thing it's good for is the articles, and the Bigpond videos that's accessible now (it was complete and utter BS that only Bigpond users could access video in the past - and still is BS that some is still restricted. :thumbsd:)
