When the current group, Kirk, Hall, Barry, Goodes, Bolton depart the scene, who will be the next one to take the reigns. From the current 21 - 25 year old group? Is Malceski the standout?
 
all i hope that we as supporters appreciate and support the older players as they come to the end of their careers. over the last 5 years they have given us so much.

i hope Paul Roos and the others give them all the time they deserve and hopefully the kids can come in as well.

i dont really give a toss if we drop off a bit after 2008 it's not like we were finals contenders 6 years ago.

this group of players deserve to be given a chance.

If there are players who are passed it keeping young kids out of the team, i hope they would stand down. (eg. Paul Williams)

There is nothing more sad in Footbal than seeing an old champion pulling the boots on week in week out and not performing.

It is stupid to suggest we have a few lean years so past champions can have (excuse the pun) a swan song.

We will have lean years, but they should be used for rebuilding, if not we are just putting ourselves further behind the 8 ball.

P.S i doubt Kennelly will be at the Swans after his contract expires in 2 years.

You would have to say so, but who knows? In two or three years time one we might find ourselves another Kirk (Craig Bird). But at the moment it has to be Malceski.

yeah sorry i didn't express ,myself, properly, what i meant was i think it might be the last year for a couple of players this year i just hope they get a dignified time at playing.

I agree he's an option. With his incredible fitness and leading by example. He has the potential to become one of the very elite in the competitiion. Maybe the captaincy would push him there.

i don't think he would be, there'd have to be something bout McVague in his post.

i say Goodes, Bolton, O'Keefe, Malceski are the leaders of our future.

looking past that, Bird, just like that. i get the feeling that i got when i first watched brettles.

Bolton missed out on the captaincy this year, they would be the first to replace either Barry or Kirk when they decide their time is up. Maybe by 2010 we may see Goodes, C. Bolton and Malceski as the three leaders of the club?

Goodes and C.Bolton will, no doubt, be the next co-captains. I think ROK might have a say in it as well.

neither are captain material
ROK is brilliant, a vital player, but not an inspiration in the mould of kirk of c bolton
ablett just isn't, much as i like him
goodes is a fine player and an inspiration, but giving him a captaincy now would be a token gesture...it has to be a younger player, and malceski is clearly the one to be groomed to take over
 
Out of the younger generation players, Nick Malceski stands out as the obvious one.

Luke Ablett could be a surprise though. It depends on how he goes this year, with his promotion to the senior group.

They can put who they want in the leadership group; it's no big deal and certainly doesn't mark a player as a future captain. Mind you, with a half dozen captains a season, they can all have a turn. :rolleyes:

The last time we had half a dozen captains taking it in turn, we won the premiership. :D:thumbsu:

I think L Ablett is a very underrated player, he looks like he'll take the leadership head on. :thumbsu:

I love seeing him drag the ball in and create a stoppage as much as the next Swans supporter, it's fantastic stuff but I think he rates a "could do better".

Luke Ablett was reduced to a spectator in the opening 15 minutes of the game as his opponent Judd racked up nine disposals and led the Eagles around the ground.

yeah....while j mcveigh makes at least one shocker a quarter and i cop it for getting on his case

as for ablett, naming him in the leadership group is a mark of respect, but with it comes a certain expectation that he has to keep stepping up....
as for captaincy, he still has to earn a definite place in the senior 18 (or 22), which is linked to what i said about expectation
i personally don't think he'll ever be a captain, but what love to be proved wrong as a i like the bloke
