bloodsbigot said: You're delusional. No player matches the resume of mills in terms of stupid shit in preseason. Not to mention he's been injured for every Grand Final we've made with him in the team. He's an idiot. If you can't see that, I'll just agree to disagree at this point.

He didn't hold back, did he?

Lot's of emotion re Mills. Regardless, it's make or break for him this year. If he does a hammy or a calf during the season, or is on the pine for a couple of weeks after every 3 games then it would be untenable for him to continue being captain. It would be hurting us massively having a captain who plays part time.

He is not wrong about Mills

If we win the flag itll be Rampe as stand in captain holding it up
If Rampe is still in our best 22 come the end of the season we won't be making finals

Surely Serong & Snell push him out of the line up
Serong in particular. Melican, McCartin and Serong should be our big 3 defenders

True Bloods with Chris Keane

Looks like a few of my questions made it through:

* the relative use of analytics from different clubs - all clubs use analytics these days but in different ways. Keane personally is deeply embedded in analytics and that's what he studied at uni.

* how far out you're looking at the drafts etc? - with Academy, quite far out. Nationally, from U16 Champs - but being mindful that it can all change in their 17th and 18th years. "We identify them early but a lot of the work is done in their draft year."

* A name to watch from the Academy in future is Aidan McCartney. He has to choose between Swans and North Melbourne. Also Rogic and McGroder ("a strong athlete") - all live prospects.

Other observations he made of interest:

* the AFL is changing the rules so it's getting harder and harder to match multiple Academy bids from the same draft.

* We didn't want to match Lachie Carmichael because we didn't want to risk missing out on Max King.

* We rated Jevan Phillipou in the first round. (He seemed to suggest that we could see that from the piece of blurred out paper flashed in the draft vid. You'd have to be pretty good to figure that out - I couldn't.) We see Jevan Phillipou as forward-mid. His confidence reminds us of Dattoli last year and "that's a quality we like in AFL players".

* There's a salary cap advantage to drafting mature age players (like Bice and Cootee) that we only have to pay draftee wages for the first 3 years.

* We were interested in Malcolm Rosas Jr 12 months ago but couldn't get him because he was contracted. We like that he has got "electric speed ahead of the footy" and that he can "complement what we've got down there as well [Paps and Braeden]". We were also glad to get some additional Indigenous talent on to our list which has been a "frustration" of ours [that we haven't been able to so much].

* Charlie Curnow is expected to play closer to goal [0-40] whereas Logan and Hayden are expected to play "higher" with Logan also a chance of going "behind the ball" [so fuel for all of those who have been supporting that move - which has not included me]. We knew that we had to give players and picks to get him. It helped a lot that Will, Ollie and Charlie are all managed by the same manager. They do consider the off-field and locker room/culture dimensions of these trades.

* We did some "due diligence" on a range of players including Jamarra Ugle-Hagan. He wasn't the right fit for our footy club.

* We like Serong "behind the footy" as a "hybrid defender" although he can play wing. We want him to play on smalls and mediums but be able to "pitch in on a tall as well". Neddy Bowman and Paddy Snell are similar types. You can play multiple of those and they can "mix and match". Jai had an option to go to Freo with his brother but picked us.

* [Keane] would not have imagined that Harry Kyle would go in the 1st round 12 months ago. He's only played 18 months. Clubs were interested in him based on their projections of what he will become. To start off with he will play as a half back but in future will hopefully become that "prototype" 188 cm "bigger, transition type mid". Can see comparisons with Finn Callaghan. Showed a lot of improvement throughout the year which is a really, really good quality.

* We love Max King's athleticism - jump and speed.

* A "bolter" tip to debut/watch make an impact this year - Will Edwards and Jesse Dattoli.

I also liked when he talked about Carmichael being NSW boy, he mentioned that he might one day want to go back. It appeared to me that he stopped himself from talking any further on this.

I'm starting to form a very good opinion of Mr Keane. Looking at our list 12 months apart to me is chalk and cheese. No doubt the coaches, especially Cox, have had an influence but the three trades, Philippou and Cootee look to be great pickups. Sure we paid a king's ransom for Curnow but the rest nicely priced. ✅

Sensational grab. Love your work Calli.

Hope Edwards does debut.

Great work. I'm generally not a fan of footy chat shows so thanks heaps for condensing this video into a concise summary.

NB. here is the "free" version of the Rosas jnr Hun/Code article, courtesy of ZeroHanger:

I was pleased to hear Rosas talking about using his speed in defence to create turnovers as well as in offence. Pursuit and pressure inside our f50 is a key role that Hayward excelled at. We played our best pressure footy when we forced forward half turnovers.

I can't wait to see our bevy of quick smalls feasting on the crumbs of our talls and pressuring the opposition.

Surely Serong & Snell push him out of the line up
I can't see Rampe being pushed out easily. He may have lost a touch of speed but he reads the game so well and he gels those around him. He's a wily old scragger with a brilliant footy brain - except for his goal post climb.
