Another thing I like is that we are playing smarter than we mostly have been, especially with the way we are taking our time this quarter. I like how unlike against North, we are playing tempo. Soaking up 30 seconds with shots for goal that don't have that much chance in these conditions.

Something that is worth mentioning for watchers interstate is that it is really humid in Sydney today. Probably contributing to some cramping out there.

Without looking at the stats, here's my votes:
5 - Ham
4 - Kennedy
3- Morphett
2- Gardiner
1- Pullar

Sensational performance by our team. Our best is very good. If we could do it for 4 quarters, we would be very hard to beat.

Good shout. I'd swap Kennedy and Morphett and Put Zip in ahead of Pullar which is really tough on Lulu as I thought she was great.

That was a 3.6 quarter domination aginst the Blues. Expected more from them but maybe they had stage fright as probably not used to opposition crowds that big? That, our relentless pressure and clean skills. Difficult to find a passenger as everyone doing their thing whilst looking out for one another.
Kennedy was blistering .. She just gets better. every game!

Bring on the roos again !! .. haha

I organised a whole posse to go to the game (3 of my son's friends and their families) but had to pull out myself after injuring my ankle yesterday. I sent my son along with the rest of them. Instead I watched from home. We don't get tv and so I was trying to stream it and the stream was playing up awfully (which, sadly, it often does). So I really need to re-watch properly on replay to assess better but, at this stage, my votes are:

5 - Tanya
4 - Montana
3 - Laura
2 - Ally
1 - Zippy

Pies kicked 1 goal in 4 quarters. Can someone explain to me how we lost to them. GWS pretty shite too. Those 2 losses are going to be costly in the final wash up i suspect.

So pleased. That was a crucial result for us.

I'm almost resigned to losing next week but I want us to guard our percentage as much as we can. The other really interesting match for us next week is Carlton v Saints. If Carlton win, I don't think we can catch them after that but our chances of finishing in the bottom of the 8 will be improved (and they might well host us in an elimination final). But if Carlton lose, there's a chance we could host them at Henson in an elimination final (if the Eagles can also conjure a victory against them in Perth R12). After today we'd go in confident even though I think we'd have to expect them to play better in a rematch.

That was a great response from our better players. Laura was back to her busy best, squirming her way though traffic and using the ball far better than last week. Kennedy was amazing, with two goals crowning a tigerish effort. Molloy did what she needed to do, apart from two uncharacteristically sloppy kicks in the defensive side of the midfield.

Ham and Morphett are still a fair way away from becoming the players they are capable of becoming, but both were hugely influential today. Just need to nail more of their kicks.

I think my greatest praise today, , though, goes to Pullar. Her first game for us was a bit sketchy but she’s been improving every week. She doesn’t have the weapons of our top rung of players but she knows where to run and she knows what’s around her. I thought she was particularly important during that first ten minutes of the third quarter when the Blues woke up and our tackles stopped sticking. She was one who was able to hold up several Blues thrusts and allow the others to regroup.

Thumbs up too to McEvoy, McCarthy and Hausegger.

Tackling is so important in footy, a very under rated aspect.

The rebound we needed after last week's debacle. Gowans took a risk in publicly challenging players during the week – that doesn't always come off.

Laura Gardiner brought her own ball and Tanya Kennedy had a day out but Montana probably had just as much impact. She is the model midfielder– incredibly strong inside, accumulates a lot of ball, has a ton of foutside pace and can hit the scoreboard.

Interesting remarks by Gowans post-game:
A four-quarter effort (Cox & co take note)
Still a young team with ups and downs – today was an up
Best game he's seen Montana play
During the week did some work with Ally on her hitouts and handballing to advantage; also worked with mids on their forward craft

Sadly, with family commitments I didn't get to come or to watch the match other than the mini-match just now. Watching that and reading the comments my takeouts are:
1) We got our determination back and applied the pressure that Carlton couldn't cope with coupled with running with a strong wind in Q1 getting the points on the board. Kennedy a leader (again) in this regard but had some mates this time.
2) Ham and Morphett imposed themselves on the game the best they have so far this year. Makes a huge difference and brings the others with them.
3) Gardiner did what she does every week only better.
4) Those four were the core of our improvement and all of them played their best games so far this year BUT it wouldn't have been enough without a lot of others pulling their socks up. Fish, Pullar, Van Loon have been mentioned but in watching the Carlton goals I couldn't avoid the conclusion that a number of them were gifted by the umps which suggests that our rearguard played solidly and our midfield defence did their jobs well. Make no mistake, the score flattered Carlton.
It will be tough making finals having dropped those two games against Pies and GWS but at least now they know what they need to do.
Cheer cheer!
