Yeah we haven't been clean with the ball. And it really hurts when we drop marks and turn it over by foot/hand. They seem to have lost confidence.Missing Hurley is making a huge difference although they seem to have become a bit complacent in the last couple of weeks since the good start to the season.
Very messy and fumbly.

To be fair, we were playing some cracking footy in the first 4 rounds. Yes, it was against some pretty average teams, other then the Cats but I think we adapted very quickly to the new HTB rule and were playing with good pressure. For whatever reason, we have dropped our intensity but at the same time, GWS and Pies really brought theirs. The worst thing is the media built us up to be this incredible team after four rounds when all we'd beaten were the cats and rubbish. Bit of a reality check to where we are at. Like to see the girls scrap a place for finals - we're still fifth after all - but we're not looking like it at the moment.
I apologise for nothing. So Mr B and I are right near the microphones. We apologise for the noise![]()
Sarah Grunden and Lara Hausseger were not too bad and Ally saved us a few times with her marks. Why arent we changing the midfield up a little more and perhaps getting Cynthia in or Chloe earlier. Its like their talent is being wasted. The ball was being delivered poorly into the 50 and those 2 became bystanders playing up forward when gws were doing so well intercepting in their back half. I also think that Paris is not of the standard of the Irish players most other teams have...just doesnt have that star quality or the skills of the Irish girls in the other teamsTanya the standout by a mile. Sofia is a big hole to fill. She delivers so well inside 50 and offers that spread that we need. I feel like the Chloe show the first few rounds was a lot to do with the delivery from Sofia.
Tanya was outstanding
It wasn't just the media that was talking us up. There were more than a few Swan supporters on BF that had unrealistic expectations too.The worst thing is the media built us up to be this incredible team after four rounds when all we'd beaten were the cats and rubbish. I confess I was one of them. I think I got ahead of where we're at after that impressive performance against the Suns.
However I don't at all agree, Jack Lord that we lack class and mongrel. I think it's mostly our inexperience showing. I think we have plenty of classy players and also ample mongrel (Cynthia comes immediately to mind, Chloe is as ruthless as she needs to be, Ham can be ferocious (but is a bit inconsistent), Kennedy lacks for nothing, Darcy Moloney actually has a bit of mongrel and class but possibly needs some more discipline and focus).
I also think we still need to improve our list. We lack depth, height and experience. Each year our list is going to improve (but so will the competition) and I'm optimistic we will build season on season. I'm not ready to draw parallels with the men's team yet. I'm also not writing the season off but it's going to be tough with the fixture in front of us.
I'm backing us to bounce back strongly this week and, to be honest, I would willingly cop these last two losses if we can knock off Adelaide, which is not out of the question.

As to this GWS game more specifically, Gowans outlined the issue very clearly: we weren't playing to our structures. He didn't question our effort or intent but said that in our desire to help out our teammates we were abandoning our role and the structures and getting sucked towards the contest which meant that afterwards we either had nobody to kick to or couldn't defend depending on whether we had won or lost the contest. He also connected that issue to our being the least experienced team in the comp (and the second youngest by just a month or two on average age).
Another point that has been made is that our game plan has been found out: Collingwood said they felt really confident coming to play us because they believed that if they could take our kicking game away from us they would win, and so it proved. GWS seem to have followed that blueprint and we haven't stood up to the pressure.

Good post and convincing points about class & mongrel. Happy to stand corrected, CallipygianI confess I was one of them. I think I got ahead of where we're at after that impressive performance against the Suns.
