He looked great last week. Much improved. Showed something. I was beginning to think maybe he might continue to struggle .

...He is a naturally attacking Player that just needs to learn to defend better. Hence maybe why we saw him more in the backline( to learn).. Might take awhile to learn all the tricks of defending though.. So we may see him get caught out some more.

Has improved significantly since his 1st game against Carlton - is still coming to grips with the overall pace of the game and his defensive skills, especially his tackling, need to improve, but this is to be expected from an 18 year old who has yet to play 10 senior games.

Very good post. Been told to strengthen his defensive side.

Wasn't really trying to have a shot, just interested in others opinions, he was touted as a potential top level player before being injured.

Sorry larrikin though we would be able to discuss Eagles players on an Eagles board. Perhaps you could point me in the direction of a board where we could do this without being accussed of bashing our own?
Umm, we are discussing it.

Wanna pick your dummy up? ;)

God hes gonna be good. Not just okay either like top 10 or so player in the AFL good. Has everything needed. Once he works on his left foot and marking a bit better hes gonna be wow

Swift had an average game after last weeks efforts. I still have manlove for him...

Some of those clearances are real top line and for a first year player he was doing real well. Next year will look real exciting with him, Shuey Masten and Ebert all lining up.

You forgot Lecras & Hurn.

Minus Jmac (he's a good hard player but we a lot of young feeders coming through) we have a very good midfield group for the future.

Add another highly rated midfielder from this years draft and look out.

Interested in other Eagles supporters thoughts on Swift. Whilst he seems to get to the ball and get quite a few touches his skill level (not a loner here) seems well below what we would expect. Doesn't seem to have the ability to hit a target by foot or hand.

I know he's had a few serious injury issues however I don't understand how that would affect ability.

My opinion, interested in yours

Bloody fantastic look into our future today.

Sounds like some Masten threads from earlier this year

The search function is your friend.

^ This.

At least if you are gonna post a jumping the gun thread - be the first to do it... If you were that "interested in others opinions" , you would have noticed, or at least searched and found, the exact same thread was being discussed a couple of days earlier with like 9 pages of opinion... This is the one you could have just ADDED your opinion to: :o

most people were of the opinion that if he could play out the year injury free it was a terrific result, now they turnaround and expect him to have perfect disposal and break the game apart! give him time he is already way ahead of schedule/expectations

Lol.

Are you blokes looking for someone to take over from Fletcher as the scape goat?

Funny shit. Good young player.

Couldn't be more impressed with him considering. The only thing holding him back besides the physical, is the knowledge he will be a gun and being reluctant to take the mantle so early. He and Kerr seem to have a bond and you throw in Masten, well talent recognizes talent is all that needs to be said.

just wait till he builds up them chicken legs :D

he is very strong through the hips and thighs - the key foundation. this shows in the way he stands up in tackles.

all good for the future -anybody can build up their upper body and a bit on the legs in the gym - he has an elite foundation though - you cant build on a weak foundation:thumbsu:

for example - compare buttler and judd. Swift has a lot of Judds foundation. lucky genetics

Can't speak highly enough about Swift - very few players can come into AFL football after almost 2 years out and within the first 6 games of their career show as much as Swift.

Agile in the packs and seems to have a way of ALWAYS getting a good handball, as Burns mentioned - once he builds up his body he could be one of our best inside players. The last 2 weeks he has played far more in the midfield rather than half back or back pocket and he seems to win the ball at will.

Certainly has a huge amount still to learn about the game but come on - what 6 gamer doesn't. He got caught out at least 3 times in defense by more experienced players, that kind of positioning will improve with time though.

Compare the early form with Masten or Ebert - Probably an overall similar level, all 3 seem to have had the same single big game (Ebert - Crows, Masten - North, Swift - Essendon) and all have areas of their game that genuinely need work

Ebert - consistency - gap between best and average is far too great for mine
Masten - ability to absorb physical pressure
Swift - decision making and kicking

Yet to see what Shuey can do - hopefully he is on their level, add LeCras & Kerr and it is a very nice set of 6 to rotate in the midfield.
