What has happened to the old Sherrin?

My son got a genuine Full Size (apparent Match Ball) for Xmas from Grandma and Grandpa...

The Synthetic crap they call leather... (Needs major road time before the thing stops slipping through your hands like it's coated in butter)...

The Soccer ball bladder it has inside? What happened to the oval shaped bladder that meant your Footy blew up perfect through the ends...

The fact the point of the footy blows up with "Saggy" points at the ends hurts your foot??? got Sag points... doesn't blow up straight...

The Footy is seriously crooked on every seam...



When I got my first match worthy ball at 10 years old... It was Pure. It was beautiful.


This Footy needs serious work...

They usually just need to be kicked in a bit, even the top of the line ones do. Thats why they don't use brand new balls in a game any more. The home team uses the balls at training during the week to work them in.

When I got my first 'Kangaroo Brand' this is how felt. Then getting some official match day balls with advertising, AFL symbol and a gold Hawks logo on it, not an issue.

No they didn't. I got a brand new Sherrin for my birthday as a kid over 20 years ago and compared to the older footy's I was used to playing junior footy with, it was like kicking a brick. They need to be worn in.

Possibly the smartest thing Brendan Fevola ever said was suggesting that they use the new Sherrin's in the teams warm up to wear them in before the game started. In fact, I'm pretty certain that's the only smart thing he has ever said.

Lots of dodgy asian rip offs sold online. A mate ordered a "genuine" sherrin online and they spelled Australian wrong on it...

New footies are rock hard, I remember kicking a brand new one and it was like johnno77 said, like putting your hand or foot through a brick. Just gotta kick it for a while and bounce it on the ground. Leather is normally a little slippery anyway until it's scuffed up.

Bladder issue is disappointing though, might have bought a defective football.

Wasn't it during 2012 season that the umpires complained about the quality of the balls? The league increased the amount of balls that get sent to the umps changerooms before the start of play so the field umpires can sort through them and find a "good" one.

You'd think getting the Footy right would be the most important issue on the Priority list for the AFL.

Sherrin make the top of the range AFL match balls and I think one other slightly cheaper leather ball.

The rest of the "Sherrin" range are synthetic pieces of shit made by 6yo slaves in Asia.

Don't be fooled by the brand, it's just a logo stamp.

I got two genuine Sherrin's from the Carlton merchandise shop last season and they are as good as they ever were when I was a kid, replete with new leather smell.

I'm guessing old ma and pa bought it from Rebel, where I've noticed they're all dogshit.

Get him one from Collingwood if you care about your son. Costs a bit more but well worth it.

I got a genuine leather ball for Christmas and I love it. Not sure what the difference is between them ($104 my GF paid) or the actual AFL ones ($179).
