Thanks to our recent success off the field and our promising future on it, would Carlton make the ideal replacement for the TAC sponsorship and at what capacity would the TAC support us; shorts, coachs' sponsor, etc..

You appear in commercials for them etc - promote their campaigns - you don't sell physical advertising space as such. They have signs around grounds etc but they aren't effected by this type of stuff.

I suspect it will be pretty hard to fend off Geelong from getting their sponsorship.

The Transport Accident Commission is part way through moving its whole operations from Melbourne to Geelong and by the end of this year will have their operations fully based there.

I think this and coupled with the road toll being significantly higher in Regional Victoria, the 2007 Premiership, high television exposure in 2008, marketable stars like Gary Ablett and Brownlow medalist James Bartel and they would be a pretty obvious leader.

It almost seems like a perfect fit but I suppose it depends how bad some other club wants it.

I think we've got our major sponsor posts filled, and quite frankly it's a bit of a poison chalice.

If we where to have an incident, it would cause far more media exposure than if we wheren't with them. Seems unnecessary on a risks/reward basis.

They aren't a sponsor of signage, jumpers etc - they effectively buy the rights to use your players to put in commercials, advertisements etc.

Thats why Collingwood fans are full of it when they say about replacing them so easy. They now pay clubs for that rather than signage and jumpers etc because of the Richmond scenario where it was beneficial for it to happen for Richmond. So, if they do dump you it does hurt and you can't replace them.

We'd take their $500K tomorrow. I wouldn't be too worried about breaking the deal (if it ever happened) - this is all great publicity for the TAC and wouldn't be surprised if they were licking their lips at the prospect of another opportunity to talk up their cause again with high profile sportsmen.

Get to work Swanny!!!!

I think when a club has trouble it highlights the problem and is more free advertising for the TAC. Not good publicity for the club and we don't need to give others more of a reason to throw crap at us. But money talks so if we are offered..take it and run

To easy to jeopordise the sponsorship.

Yep. We're kidding ourselves if we think we are unlikely to have another drinking situation. Why set ourselves up to crash and burn? These sponsors are holier than thou and it is too hard for football teams to live the lifestyle required. We may as well take money from the Catholic Church and have "No Sex Before Marriage" merchandising. Too hard.

I disagree. Drinking and Driving is illegal, so why wouldn't the TAC take this stance. It flies in the face of the message they are trying to get out to the community, and footballers should know better.

If the TAC came knocking on Carltons door, i'd hope we'd let them in. $500K is $500k - no-one would pass those sorts of dollars up.

500k would be good for the club but an easy sponsorship to lose with bad publicity to follow . But on that note , HBF is right and the club would be held responsible in educating the playing group although they should already know better .

We would have to accept any sponsor that would come our way. Generally (other than the Laurence Angwin saga) our player's seem to have been well behaved off the field so i wouldn't think that we would have too much to worry about.
If the Filth was getting half a million off TAC i don't see why we wouldn't get the same.
