hey all, just wondering who else went and watched the power vs the stingrays on the weekend?! and also wondering who people thought were among the best for both teams!?
Did anyone see Hughes' great shepard on the boundary line?

Saw about 3/4 of the first u/18 game followed by the main game. Pretty hard to gauge how both sides are travelling given that Dandenong played all of their first year players in the early game and all of their second year players in the second game.

Obviously they will have a blend of both in the first game against the Power in a fortnight.

Haven't got my team sheets with me so I'll reply in more detail later.

From the Power perspective it was good to see Lachlan Hansen moved to the forward line early in the 3rd quarter. Made an immediate impact with his strong marking whilst Ben Hughes did well across half back. We all know Hansen can play CHB but were keen to see him tried down forward this year.

Hughes shepherd on the boundary line was perfectly executed and the Dandenong player took some time to get over it. The wind appeared to unsettle both sides and Gippsland's handball at times was pretty poor, however, at least they were trying to create run and opportunities.

Didn't think that Delphine was at his best whilst Ben Ross was very dangerous with 5 clever goals to 3/4 time.

Also was very impressed with No 30 from Dandenong in the first game. Tall and well built and probably took at least a dozen marks. Lacks a bit of pace but a tremendous prospect.

So they actually knew when it hit 35? or were they guessing. Anyways if the rules applies then yeah i guess they had to follow it. But now i just dont like the rule. And agreed they shuld have got together and organised somthing else.

no the umpires have a direct line to the weather bureau. the rule states that if it passes 32 degrees the quarters are shortened and breaks lengthened. once it hits 36 degrees the game is to be called off. the umpires have constant contact with the weatehr bureau before and during the game.

I'm sure it would have been less hassle to push each game back an hour so they were all over with by mid afternoon than to send players and parents home after their kid played one quarter of footy.

would you rather the boys collapse from playing in the heat and the parents ask why were they allowed to play in such extreme heat. it is just football after all, not worth risking your health for.

i definately agree "bush tucker77" you'd much rather see the umps take a safety option..
last year 2 players from the victorian football leagues died from heat exhaustion, which they copped an absolute pounding for, so i think they devised the heat policy to cover their backside..

Yeah fair enough actually. 36 is getting a bit too hot then, especially for praccy game, but if it was round 1 i'd expect them to continue

yehh i can understand the frustration.. but u have to understand that if one of the boys from the TAC cup died from heat exhaustion u could imagine the media it would get and footbll victoria just dont need it..
but i suppose the AFL play no matter..

anyone see this weekend matches? gippsland and dandenong? what did you think of Ross and Hughes?

Yes, very good and loud. Liked what he said to one of the Dandy top agers at one stage too - good sledge.

Gippsland impressed, but hard to know how much to read into it given the mix of teams across the two games, rotations and the wind factor.

Liked the look of Macaffer at Full forward and no 25 wasnt sure of his name but was a really good disposer of the ball playing off the back flank, also lachie hansen has bulked up a lot since last year.

Oakleigh (OR who ever they play round 1) were too good for Eastern on the weekend.

The lack of KP players and bottom age players coming into the squad is a concern for the club.
