Oakleigh d NSW / ACT Rams
Oakleigh opened up a 4 goal lead and pretty much died there-after. Rams might have snuck back into it if they hadn't lost ruckman Earl Shaw to a leg injury in the 3rd quarter. Rams dominated stopages, Oakleigh the open field.
Ed Clarke 170cm-ish and over 90kg was breaking tackles at will. Despite the named best players I thought Gibson (Oakleigh) was best on ground.
Myles Krakouer (Phil's son, too young to be drafted) debuted. Will Fitzpatrick (Mike's son) played at FB. Doug Searl's son (FS elligable for Brisbane) also showed some good glimpses.
Bendigo d Nth Ballarat
Lots of new names on the best player lists. Have to get out to see them play.
Calder d Tassie
Despite the game being played in Launceston, Calder thumped the Mariners by 125 points. Must have been one-way traffic. A couple of new names on the best players list. Calder could well go undefeated again. Lee kicked 5 in a losing side.
Geelong d Murray
Minor upset with Geelong getting up by 14 points. Murray were a little disadvantaged with key players on tour in Ireland.
Sandringham d Dandenong
High scoring game. Nayna, Herirngton and Gurruba not named in the best for Dandenong, almost a whole new Sandy team. I remember watching the Gooley twins in an under-16 Vic Metro trial game. One kicked 4 and one made the best player list. 2 to watch.
Eastern v Western
Was a pretty good game to watch. Eastern had avenues to goal and Western didn't. Cloke was a big target at FF and everything Knights touched ended in a goal. He played mostly forward.
Cloke looks a FF, not a ruckman.
Around the middle it was pretty even. Prismall seems really to have taken a step forward and was superb around the middle. Dougy Thomas tried hard and created a few exciting moments. Liked the look of Uren who I hadn't seen before, he was gutsy on HBF.
Ranges should have won by a bit more in the end if they had kicked straight. Thought Hocking was one to watch.
Gippsland v Northern
A low scoring affair. Gippsland converted a 3 goal qtr time lead into a 3 goal loss.
