Just looking threw the tac cup lists and wondering what the thoughts are on smalls 175 cm and below in each tac side and if there is still room for them on a afl list considering that Eddy Betts is doing well and hearing Robert Walls comments about how every side should have at least 3 or 4 smalls on there list

cheers,

Nahas and Fremantle are quality players from oakleigh. Probably would have gotten drafted if they were taller.

Matt Stanley from Dandenong has been very impressive. Solid little battle ship with good hands. Probably to slow for recruiters. If everyone passed on Ed Clarke last year I doubt Stanley will get a look in.

Nick Carnell from NK always has a good crack at it. Late start to the season and I think he is carrying OP. Anyone confirm.

If you are under 175 and not as quick as Eddie and Davey, coupled with special skills, you got no hope.

Freemantle has been excellent as has Simon Phillips

what about forte carouso and joe gazzo both have a ood pace on them great skills on both sides of the body and have awesome goals sence....
they have alrerady kicked a bag each for calder.

clubs can only have 1 (max of 2) guys this height on their lists. they are handy but they can be exposed, especially when clubs really start to pay them attention.

i wouldn't say they both did nothing gazza kicked two late goals late in the S.A game to seal the game when it looked like we wer about to be run over....

Ricky Delphine. Is a little rover from Gippsland. This year has played REALLY well 20+ possies in each game. I use to tag him in u13-u16s, the only thing that lets this kid down is his Discipline. Very Very Short Tempered

Even if clubs wanted a smaller player, they are also in a much larger player pool and for that reason their chances of being drafted are small as well. Look at how many 170-180cm players there are in the U18s, compared to 190-200cm.

Shane Valenti 173 cm 76kg from Sandringham

Made U/18 Metro squad of 50, last year but was unable to play a selection game due to school football commitments

This kid can play football, will be unlucky not 2 get drafted playing first game of the year this weekend after recovering from injury.

I now make the comment he finished this week with 35 effective possies

robin nahas from oakleigh must be a draftable player!?!?

max benches almost 100kg for a man of his size, so obviously has some power about him and is very very quick with good clean skills. Picked up 42 possessions on the weekend, must be up there for the morrish medal this year after finishing with 12 votes in total from last years count as a bottom ager..

Looking at players under 180cm over the last few years.

2001 - 10 guys (S.Harvey*, Schneider*, Medhurst, C.Brown, Elstone, Ladstone, S.Mitchell, Rodan*, M.McGrath, Montagna)
2002 - 7 guys (Shackleton, Schammer*, Byrnes*, Grima, J.Clayton*, Ebert, Faulkner)
2003 - 7 guys (Schmidt, Willoughby*, Surjan, Roach, Hartigan, Miller*, Davey*)
2004 - 9 guys (Stribling, Blackwell, McQualter, Moore, Ezard*, Iacobbuci, Eckermann, Betts*, Pearce*)

* = less than 177.

So that is about 12 guys less than 177cm in the last 4 years. Just 3 guys a year.

And most of those (Betts, Pearce, Schneider, S.Harvey, Byrnes, Schammer, Miller) are super-super quick. Most are goal-kickers.

Sandringham Dragons have 5 players under 175cms this year:

1st Year - Tomi Johnstone 174cm
2nd - Chris Phillips 172cm
2nd - Simon Phillips 172cm
2nd - Daniel Turcarelli 172cm
2nd - Shane Valenti 173cm

All have played decent in the first 3 games, but can still pick it up a few notches.
I’d like to know the chance of seeing any of these 5 blokes being drafted this year..

Ta.

kids a nut, one of the hardest working guys down at the chargers. is much better than most of the people double his size at that club. would not surprise me if he got looked at.

Flippa35,

See the post from Weaver.

If 65-70 kids under 18 get drafted in 2005 (say 65 for the sake of argument) and on average 3 a year under 177cm get drafted (even less per year under 174cm according to the stats) then it's about a 1% chance that 1 person of this height may get drafted from your list.

Damn statisitics can get you everytime.

not sure how tall dom di mascio of eastern is but surely must be mentioned in any discussion about this years TAC best small men. in my opinion, he was one of the best on ballers in the comp last year and he is only improving

Could Not Agree With YOu Anymore, he is one very dedicated bloke, never say die attitude in him as well!!!!!!!!
May not get the respect from opposition he deserves with the likes of:
Dowler and Murphy. 42 touches the other week clearly shows that!
