Some of the pro no tackling argument sounds centered around open space open play or in our defence 50

We need to tackle in the guts and stop clearances and make turn overs this doesn't happen by corraling.

We need speed and harassment and TACKLES inside the fed 50 as that immediately turns into a score option and puts doubts in the opposition defenders

Our defense was strong not because we didn't tackle but because our defensive 50 pressure and pressure on entering 50 was good as well as the best 1 on 1 defender in Rance

Tackling helps us offensively not just defensively

I think our tackling stats are a example of issues around clearances . The club tends to set up on the understanding the their ruckman will win the tap or Miles/ cotchin will win first possession . Their is little to no defensive mindset at clearances with massive emphasis on spread .
I also think this it is a major reason why sides with a quality tap ruckman pants us , yet we match up well against Whoreforn.

We have to tackle, and more tackles could be a good sign, especially in finals. My previous posts sounded a bit like I was saying low tackles is better. Not at all. What I was saying was that if we can properly pressure the opposition in 'open' play without tackling we can reduce their ability to score, and cause turnovers in a situation that allows us an easier scoring opportunity. But that game plan is entirely reliant on winning inside and so allowing us to set up. Against most teams that works well. But against finals teams (especially ones with good big tough inside players like North) that style is likely to fail. It is almost designed to take the Hawks down (maybe in fact it is). Against the better contested teams we must be able to get contested ball, and if we don't we must stop them through tackling. Our inside guys and squad aren't good at that. So to me it's not about increasing tackles overall. It's about increasing tackles when the opposition gets the hard ball and so stopping them setting play up. If we don't increase tackles at all, but win more hard ball and nullify it when we don't win the contest then that is great by me. Tackles are fairly useless if they don't stop the opposition moving the ball and allow you to move it well. Often having a high tackle count just means you don't have the ball. Devil is in the details.
