We don't seem to have anyone who can play a lock down role since Jackson retired.

I suspect this is going to sound as controversial as shifting Richo to the wing all those years ago but ...

Since our captain is a very good but not elite player, who struggles with the hard tag ... perhaps he could become a Cameron Ling style Tagger? Ie gets his own ball but always is within a whisker of his opponent. I think he has the athletic ability and brain to be able to do it... he would probably get less ball himself - but could really impact defensively...

Alternatively - Vlastuin? He has the heart!

Townsed just doesn't seem to have enough footy smarts and gets caught out of position to much.

Any other options on our list ? McIntosh???
 
Got to get a midfield that doesn't require one. That's the secret.

Today showed. Both teams went at it head to head.

Build that midfield, get it elite running both ways and we will be right. Our problem is the lack of want to run defensively and depth of talent. Adding Prestia & say Taranto would be good.

Yes - I take your point. Having Prestia would relive pressure from Cotchin. I still think Vlas is needed in their ..

At worst have a run with player that can go both ways i.e. Mitchell and Picken.

Spot on. Every player should be showing accountability around stoppages too... Don't need to be a tagger to stop someone getting it.

Tom Liberatore is a perfect example of the type needed.
 
IMO, out and out taggers are pretty rare these days - not sure we really need a designated tagger either. It's great if they can do a shut down job but they need to also be able to hurt the other team going the other way.

I'd much rather see a deeper and more disciplined midfield group than play a specialist tagger. Get the players to work as a team/unit at stoppages and make life hard for the player they are trying to negate. Sure have a player with instructions that their opponent is the guy they want to keep quiet but have his team mates assist with blocks and shepherds around stoppages etc. Too often have opposition teams done this too us IMO.

We have a player like this right under our noses and we are real close...all he needs to do is hurt the other team, instead of hurting the tiges...Taylor Hunt ;)

I saw his tagging exploits against Boomer in the EF against norf last year - Boomer was so scared at being 'hunted' he could only manage 16 disposals and 2 goals against us! :p

On a serious note though, he was a decent tagger for Geelong a few years back wasn't he?

yeah most likely he was and going back abit, Biddiscombe was a decent HB for Geelong a few years back too..;)

I remember him! I think my old man told me (I was a kid at the time) that he won the best club man award or something at Geelong. Back in the day when the RFC chased big names! :D
 
I have an ingenious game plan for Dimma which could save his career. Chuck out the coaching manual and make Ellis and Hunt taggers and order them to tag each other out of the game and we will better off ;)
