Opinion Tanking Outcome Prediction Thread

Gents (and ladies... if there are any....),

With the AFL about to hand down it's decision on whether or not we tanked during this coming week, I thought it would be a good opportunity for you all to predict just what the outcome will be. I know we have all mentioned it in the other thread from time to time, and many of us have changed our tunes over the course of the last 7 months, but now that the time is almost here I'm interested to see what we all think will happen.

My head tells me that we will get off and no charges will be laid, but my heart tells me the AFL will charge those involved with the possibility of lost draft picks and individual suspensions. If that's the case I think the club will take the AFL to court and it could drag on further. Fingers still crossed that doesn't happen but I'm increasingly beginning to feel as though we will be charged in some way or another.

Edit - I also thought we could predict what sort of ban Striker475 gets IF we are charged. If you'll all remember the tanking issue had gone away until he started his thread and then it all went to shit. In light of this I think we can lay the blame solely at his feet and, therefore, if we are done it's all his fault. :)

My thoughts are too jumbled on the issue to put anything clear down on paper. I was certain Scully was staying until October 2011!

Fwiw, I think we'll have no charges laid against the club or its administrators. There may be some token rubbish put forth (blah blah disrepute yadadadada), without any serious sanctions, just to make afl house and the media frenzy feel better.

I'd expect some sanctions, probably in the form of lost draft picks and maybe fines for the club/Bailey/Connolly. Maybe also some suspensions for those mentioned. I don't think we'll get off with nothing, I'd say the 'bringing the game into disrepute' rule will be getting a solid workout as the charges are put forward.

Who knows with the way things are being run at the moment. Could be anything from a sincere apology for the aggrevation to death and a large fine.Should be the former will probably be the later, and we can all reconvene at a time which suits the court system.

I might have it the wrong way around but I thought they were announcing the charges this week, followed by a hearing, potentially followed by sanctions, potentially followed by a court case.

I think the board, Connolly and Bailey will be charged. The way Caro framed it in her "WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!" article despite her very apparent hatred for Schwab makes me think charges against him will be dropped.

I am praying that it is minor, because we really need a break!

Great club, great people, great supporters, just a bad few years that keep haunting us...

Connolly, Schwab and Bailey charged with conspiring to tank.

No one found guilty of tanking, not enough evidence.

Connolly and Schwab charged, Bailey let off, club gets away with it

As for me, you bastard CFH

I think the AFL would be dreading this getting to court.

I'm guessing not enough evidence and no charges laid.

The recent doping issue is a very handy distraction for the MFC..

A few things that the club has been doing recently suggests to me that some form of sanctions/punishment will be handed down by the AFL. We will then appeal and hit the courts for a lengthy period.
The pres mentioned a while ago that we had a team of people meeting every day to discuss the tanking stuff. You don't do that if there's nothing to worry about. Also, Gaz on FC last week alluded to a very long court battle.
Unfortunately, I think we'll still be talking about this for most of the year.

As for Striker, I say we chain him to a chair with his eyelids taped open and force him to watch 186 every day until this whole ordeal is over.

Imagine if we ended up being found guilty of tanking AND were implicated in the drugs scandal

Anyway, no worst case scenario for me, ever. I would expect a club fine in the region of perhaps $250-500K, and individual sanctions for Connolly and Bailey.

Only the MFC could get charged for tanking and using performance-enhancing drugs at the same time.

If we aren't charged with tanking how can we get done for bringing the game into disrepute? If we didn't tank what did we do? Incite a media witch hunt that has bought bad publicity to the game?

Unless brining the game into disrepute is the only charge they can pin us for 'conspiring to tank'.

Sounds like T-day is going to be this Friday. My prediction is; the AFL says we put our findings to the club and the individuals and we were happy with their responses to those findings and the matter will not be taken any further.

AFL charges us to save some face, we take it to court and without much of a fight it's dismissed and never brought up by anyone ever again.
Again, but I might have this wrong, wouldn't there be a hearing by the commission between us being charged and punished? Only after that would we take it to court, right?

I could potentially see the AFL charging us, the case being challenged, and then the AFL dropping the charges within a couple of months due to not having much to go on. I doubt this will ever see a courtroom.

I dunno, I'm just waiting this one out without really sweating it. Just taking an ill informed punt at the end game.
