Are we or aren't we??????

Seems a bit far fetched but would it be surprising if AFC decided to tank this season for an extra draft pick in the top 10?????? Think about it, if you can get 2 top 10 picks it really kicks off your rebuilding phase. Generally with these picks you get "franchise" players. We desperately need a couple of young guns.

AFC might be seeing the bigger picture and realise that this is a perfect opportunity to get some early picks. One bad year can be forgiven and next year one would expect the team to be more competative.

Do you think we are tanking or not??????

By default , i think we are.
we are playing a lot of youngsters in positions that they are not ready for, I dont think its a deliberate act on behalf of the players but a consequence of our young line up.
Graig is doing this with great skill.
To lose the richmond game Roo and Macca will need to get a virus though.

No, I just think we're a submediocre football side which has steadily gone backwards since 2002.

I'm not sure about the tanking bit. If they are, the players sure stuffed them up against Melbourne.

Besides how the hell are we going to manufacture a loss against Richmond. Win that one and we've lost the priority pick.

By adopting a policy of trying the list out rather than always picking the best side, the AFC could be accused of tanking to some degree.

However, I do think the AFC always does try to win, but it does seem prepared to drop a game or two as the result of the trying out the list policy, which they would never have done in years gone by.

If we are tring to tank we've got a lot to learn from the perennial cellar dweller teams in Victoria, who have made an art form of it. :D

Seriously guys, think about it. We are playing a LOT of youngsters who are just not ready for AFL footy. We have an inexperienced interim coach. You are not going to win many games with this in mind.

As for the Richmond game, McLeod and Roo cop a "nasty corky" at training and are not selected :)

Is it fair to say that we are tanking if Craig gets appointed and we don't win another game for the rest of the year.

Just out of curiosity, how much better off would we be with 2 top 10 picks with trades yet to come?????? It would be a massive boost to our rebuilding process.

Then why did we rush back an unfit Goodwin last week...

How good was he??????

I am pretty sure that match committee would have had the fair idea of how Goody would go.

Until we win a game I am claiming that we are tanking the season :o

If the match committee knew that Goody was going to be crap (like most good judges on this board predicted ;) ), then what was the point of playing him ahead of a youngster who would have got valuable AFL experience?! Plain stupidity IMO.

Who've we got left who hasn't retired or been injured?

The only players with _any_ sort of AFL experience we could pick this week are Hudson (10 games - 4 effective games if you count his bench time); Ladhams and Perrie.

You reckon Ladhams and Perrie (on current form) are the difference between winning and losing?

No, we're just crap.

I have a funny feeling it's in Craigs best interest to win games. Just a hunch. ;)

Exactly right - we don't have enough fit players to tank anything.

That's an insult to the intergrity of Trigg and Craig

Its not fair to suggest that

There is no way we are tanking

What choice do we hve given the injuries and retirements

I think we will come close to winning this week.

Scary think about this is, that l agree 100%.

If we lose to Richmond, then l will admit the AFC are tanking games, but the Richmond game is only game we have a more than 50% chance of winning, even with the home games.

If we lose all our remaining games then it MAY cross my mind.

But it's not worth tanking the season unless we do.

The difference between finishing 13th and getting pick 7 or finishing 10th and getting pick 10 is not good enough to make it worth while.

But the difference between getting picks 3 and 6 compared to pick 7 alone might be worth while.

We are not tanking.

We were a whisker away from beating Fremantle last week, the margin flattered them. Had Johncock got the free he should have, we would have been in front and Freo would have crumbled.

If we were tanking, Roo and Macca would have played out the last quarter on the pine.

We do not have to tank with the injuries to key players and retirements we have suffered this year.

I agree with you though Stiffy, the draft picks that could be available are an enticement to continue to experiment.

The Richmond game is the real concern. We would need more than Macca and Roo to go down to lose that one.

I see where Collingwood are giving the rest of the season off to Rocca so he can get any surgeries out of the way and start planing for next year.

Is it time for us to go down the smae path and get some injured players that might need surgery to have it now and start preparing for next year??????

With all the players we have injured right now, I doubt we would have 22 players left if we went that way!

But I think we should really rest Goody. You can tell he's not 100% and none of us want one of our best players injuring himself again, especially when we have the option. He would be much better for it come 2005.

I suspect another one of these players might be Beggers. His injury doesn't seem to be healing up all that quickly. Perhaps its worse than we first thought?

Fremantle win first time in seven attempts.
Some may have considered that tanking;)

Don't have to put Roo and Macca on the bench, just put them in the centre and play them unchanged for 3 qtrs, guarantee they'll be stuffed and useless by the last qtr.

Many ways to skin a cat.
