There has been alot of talk about Trading Ben Johnson and Rhyce Shaw
But i have heard no talk about Lockyer's future i really dont see a spot for Lockyer in this team like he still has alot to offer but he is more of a small Defender/Midfield with stints in the Forward line i think if we did offer him up for trade we might beable to grab a 2nd Rounder we would have to offer a little bit more of course

What is Lockyer's position in the team and the club

Safer than the share market at the moment

Lockyer will not be going anywhere - he will play out his career at Collingwood.
He is a pretty important player to our team IMO - he can play midfield, can do a run with role, play up forward and can play back and is in our best 22 atm.

Run with Role ??? Since When

Lockyer played HFF/MID this year and played a little bits and pieces in the Backline thats really it

We have alot of Small Defenders to pick from
We have alot of Small Half Forwards to pick from

I'd say Tarks is pretty safe. I can see what your saying but I think Tarks is a bit older then the other two. Is more flexible then the other too and has his head screwed on better then the other two.

Tarks will play out his career at Collingwood and eventually be over taken by younger guys with more to offer, atm we don't have the experince to be getting rid of experinced players with their head screwed on for no reason. Bj is not in the best 22, Rhyce is fringe and not as versatile and has the whole attitude thing. I also think we will get more for Rhyce in a trade then tarks

A few years back around '02 ish he seemed to do a few run with roles with players who would move from the forward line through the midfield - he would start on them when they were forward (playing as a back) and then follow them through the mid.

You are saying exactly what i am saying - he can play in all these areas.

Yes we may have alot of small defenders and small forwards to pick from but with the big loss of experience in the team Lockyer is important to bring a bit of experience and leadership to the younger players.

I already think he has been pushed out he really doesnt have a set position anymore

I'm with BEEG on this one. Like others, I love Tarks and what he has done for the club but the fact is he may be struggling for a spot next year.

He has never really coped as a small defender - think I remember Farmer towelling him up a couple of times - and does not have the speed for it now after his injuries.

We have more than enough on a forward flank with Didak, Davis, Medhurst, Thomas and arguably Dick rotating through there and the middle next year.

Which leaves midfield. We have the above mentioned rotating through and Pendlebury, Swan, O'Bree (there will be calls of Tarks before O'Bree but it won't happen), McCarthy, Clarke and maybe Stanley and Cousins.

He's a great clubman but he could be trade bait. He's never been a game-breaker and the roles he can play are fast being taken by better players.

And trading him might hurt as short term (Experience, Great clubman, Decent Player,) but if we can package something up and get a 2nd or 3rd Rounder for him be perfect

Look at what Hawthorn did with all there players a few years back traded them cleaned the older guys that could play out then got Draft picks and are challenging for a Flag saturday

He's probably in a similar position to Corey Jones at North. Ordinarily, you would not think about trading him but with the upcoming drafts being somewhat compromised, they may be up for trade.

As TRS has mentioned in the past, Freo may be looking for some players with so many retiring or seeking trades. He is a WA boy originally and it might be a good fit. He could replace the likes of Bell, McManus, Black, Carr and provide some experience for the young kids coming through.

He is a much better player than either rhyce or johnson , plus he can kick.

So he will stay.

I think he needs to stay, we don't have to much experience blokes remaining if he goes.

GO PIES!

I think teams value draft picks even more now. Remember they also traded Croad for the number one draft pick and got him back cheaply, They also traded far more talented older players. Hay was an all australian Thompson was a very good player

...yeah, but if we package Lockyer+Rhyce+Johnson+Egan(undelist him) we should be able to get a first round pick. It's destiny!

I just reckon Tarks is more likely to get us the upgraded 2nd round pick then Shaw or Johnson. I doubt we will do it but I think it should be looked at.

I think we recruited him off their rookie list as well, so he probably has ties at the club, and of course is a local boy. Freo I think will make a play for him.

Can we undelist Richards and involve him in the trade too. We might be able to get pick 1 Rich here we come !!!!!

In all seriousness we may get a 3rd rounder for him but I think he is more value to us. Trade Rhyce and if we can trade ben j for a bag of chips do that too. I'd entertain the idea of trading Cox to freo too bu beyond that nothing.

It would be utterly stupid for freo to trade for older players. They really have to commit to the rebuild around Palmer with Pav as the leader.

I'd be rapt if we could even get an early second rounder and an upgrade of our exisiting second rounder which may give us a good shot and Hannenberry and Swift in the second rounds. Although I am not confident Swift will get past Freo and WCE second round.

Lockyer was elevated from our rookie list. Had a massive year in 2007 and was pretty solid this year.

We need his experience for a little while yet.

I don't think we should get rid of more experience. Tarks can actually kick. He stays.

WTF? First "we" have a huge moan about not having defenders to watch small forwards, then "we" want to trade a passionate club-man with a sizzling kick and who never shirks a contest, no matter who the opponent.

If he was towelled up by Famer he wouldn't be the first. I'm sure it's not the easiest of tasks swapping positions/roles each year. I reckon with the departure of yet another experienced head, the backline/rebounders could do with a cool head and a lot of footy smarts.

This is my first post on Big Footy, and I have registered simply to post on this particular thread... I am a passionate Pies supporter like Im sure we all are, and Tarks has got to be one of my favourite players!!! I love the way he goes about it! Yes, he is a swing man, but thats not because he cant hold a position IMO...Its simply because hes that good, push him back, he'll play on the most dangerous small forward, put him forward he'll kick goals, and in the midfield, hes one of a handful of genuine GUT BUSTERS we have!!! so why on earth would you even consider trading someone like this... In 07 we had the luxury of playing him on the ball, and it was by far his best year, standout game vs Brisbane Lions @ the GABBA, no one could go with him, was absolutely everywhere, and kicked a couple of goals from memory... anyways, massive first post, just wanted to show my support to a player I have the utmost respect for!!! Go Pies 09!!!

Pfft, how stupid!
Lockyer has a spot on this team. We need his experience. He has been a great player for us & you'd rather trade him instead of Johnson or R.Shaw?

Weird......

If that was directed at me then no I wouldn't. I would much rather trade Johnson and Rhyce then Lockyer. I stated in my original post what I thought of Lockyer but as we have seen with Scott West over the last couple of days, list management is a tough business and there is no room for sentiment. My point was if we wanted to be aggressive in this last uncompromised draft for a couple of years he may come up in discussions.

FWIW I don't think he will be traded due to his stature within the club. He is still in our best 22 but I think it is a close run thing and his utility status is probably the thing that saves him at the moment.
