he was brilliant against 'pigs arse' Carlton.

If he improves his kicking, and finds some consistancy he is going to be a really hard forward to match up on.

I have my doubts sometimes, but he is (at his very best) a great player.

He had a licence to roam tonight. That is what he needs and how he plays best. He had a lot of great inside 50's, handballs and tackles etc and presented at every opportunity. He didn't drop his head when things went wrong.

Shame he's our worst kick for goal since Gavin Brown.

he'll improve with age I believe ...

He's very agile ... which is good ;), and is a big boy in real life, didn't think he was as he was when I seen him, he looks smaller on the field

Glad to see him have a great game and find some form (even if it is Matthew Richardson-like form).

i aqlso noticed one major difference from last weeks game (apart from the fact he had Thornton instead of Gaspar on him). Our midfielders actually kicked the ball to him. everytime against the tigers they ignored his lead. No wonder he was down in confidence.

he really present tho, bit of kicking practice will build his confidence, if he keeps playing like that the shots at goal will become easier :)

I think I've found out the way to beat Gaspar of Richmond ... who seems to stitch Tarrant up each time.

Gary Lyon pointed out today, in the Richmond - Bulldogs encounter that Gaspar can defeat any forward when the lead is in one direction only, however if you double back, and work harder then you're going to beat him.

Nathan Brown did it once today, and Gaspar was a good 8m behind him.

Also, I think he should try and get the defender to play next him when thinking about going on a lead, you push the defender off (like Gary Lyon pointed out on the footy show today) and you have a few metres on your opponent.

If allowed to play at Half Forward, would be a great possibility to be an All-Australian HFF.

His marking has improved in 1 on 1 contests when he is able to jump for the ball. As proven in GF and against Carlton.

He should be commended for his positioning of playing in-front on most occaisions in marking duels. He is not being rewarded by umpired at this stage of his career. He doesn't play for free kicks.

His off the ball work is terrific. Makes many blocks for others.

He is improving every year which is all you can ask.

Funny you should mention that. Around half way through season 2002 he was one of the most rewarded forwards (free-kick wise, obviously) in an article in the HS (?). And you're right, he doesn't play for frees either, which is a surprise considering the aforementioned article. Some games he gets free kicks that absolutely aren't there, but it seems more often than not he misses out on frees that other players would get.

Can't agree more with your last line. Taz & Pebbles don't get fair treatment I believe. More often than not, they attempt to play in front.

How many contests in the past 2 games against undersized opponents have we seen both of them restricted in putting their arms above their head to take marks. Especially Pebbles.

Best comment. We mock Richo yet rejoice Tarrant - same.
This 'off-the-ball, create-opportunities" stuff drives me batty. 3 finals no goals should give the right prespective. If only he had "created" another two last Sat of Sept last year. Better still, kicked them himself - that's what forwards do.

Tarrant gets alot of free kicks because the way he plays.
Tarrant leads with explosive pace and the defender usually has to run at full pace to keep up/catch up with him, Tarrant often then props in order to take the mark but usually ends with interference from the defender.

if your the man in front, like Tarrant ... there is a more than likely chance that the player behind doesn't have a good chance of spoiling if he is gonna take chest mark.

you would just fall over him and push him in the back :p

There is a huge difference between Tarrant on Friday and Richo the week before.

Not really.

The main difference is the level of respect given to them by their fans. And Tarrant played in a winning side while Richo didn't.

Not sure. Both had crap opponents, but Taz's misses weren't nearly as bad as Richo's.

Probably bias coming through, but for me, Taz did a lot more.

he is a superstar ill have him down at the dogs anyday

Tarrant has "upped his work rate" recently, you know, looked more interested off the ball, but he has had a dry spell with scoring. I think its a concentration issue, which he looks to be working on.

In the past, he has baulked at really applying himself and overcoming problems, to the extent that he walked out of the club. Hopefully that was just immaturity, and he has grown up.

My fear is he could walk again. I would hate to see him leave but if we had a really bad year and he was injured or down on form he might skedaddle.

Hopefully he has grown out of his despair and can endure hard times better than he used too.

So. . . Tarrant. . . I think he's had a magnificent start to the season. Only needs to improve his conversion in front of goal, but other than that nothing to complain about so far!
