What are the chances of someone like AWG ie. a supporter of an existing AFL club, supporting something like that? A team doesn't have to fail to be re-located btw.

IMO a team does need to be on the verge of 'failure' for them to be relocated. Hawthorn move to Tasmanian permanently? Why when they still can pack the Telstra Dome and still have big support in Vic? Who knows, will be interesting to see what does happen way day.

Well, i'd still be a Blues member and they'd still be my team. Would probably go to a few games of the relocated team, but i'd rather fly to melbourne and watch carlton games. I'd support them, but the Blues would be my no.1

I've had this argument before with a couple of others. The thing that got to me was their arrogance and smug attitude over the issue. Their names being Gunnar Longshanks and Captain Afterworld. This topic is now on the Essendon Board as well, they seem to like the idea of Tassie over WS as well.

Now waiting for Captain Afterworld to say that West Sydney is the right place to go because he said so, that Tasmania doesn't have a big enough population without providing any reason whatsoever why they don't and that everyone has no idea what they're talking about and has rocks in their heads as he is the righteous one and judge and jury on everything.

The only thing that will get a team into Tassie is if the A-league look like getting up.

The AFL is the only league big enough to support a team down there IMO, as most other codes have tried and failed.

Tassie deserves a team and could support one, but the AFL don't care about logic nor sentiment, just money. They see more money in West Sydney over the next 50-100 years than in Tassie. That assumes the team gets up and survives.

They underestimate the passion required to keep an AFL team alive in any city let alone Sydney. They aren't even passionate about their local code let alone the AFL. Like it, watch it.....sure......passionate enough to buy a membership when your team is losing and on the bottom of the ladder?
Not on your life.

I think we're still behind a couple of others in the queue as far as getting an A-League team, but things can change quickly in a few years time. Anyway, if in the more likely scenario that West Sydney is the chosen one, then the AFL will have a lot of egg on their face to wipe off if it indeed does flop.
Tassie's 2 biggest sporting passions would be AFL and cricket you would imagine. A cricket team and hopefully an AFL team are what we can sustain. We've given so much to the game, to have our own AFL team would be the perfect reward of giving so much over a long period of time.

Disagree on cricket. When is the last time we had a big crowd at any Tassie Tigers cricket match? We're not a cricket watching state, we sit at home watching it on tv, not at the grounds.

AFL, followed by soccer.

Our domestic cricket competitions generally don't attract too much crowds around Australia yet alone down here, unless it's a 20/20 match. When international matches are played and it involves Australia or 2 competitive international sides, the crowds can be genuinely good considering the capacity of Bellerive. Even Test matches sometimes do.
The low crowds with domestic matches could also be to do with the fact that if you have Fox Sports you can watch the one-dayers and 20/20s at home, even in your home state. Of course though, there could be other reasons as well.
Anyway, AFL is Tassie's biggest sport, at least we can agree on that.:) Cricket would probably be the biggest summer sport.

Could well be the only main summer sport also ;)

Yes, it could. Anyway, there's a poll on the polls board. It asks if your club was to fold, who would you barrack for? I said I wouldn't barrack for anyone unless a Tassie team was set up or another team re-located here.
An Essendon fan said they'd barrack for Carlton because his dad goes for them. What I can't understand is, why wouldn't he follow in his dad's footsteps and go for them in the 1st place!

Daicos' son goes for the Blues, and Kouta's son goes for the Pies.

Who knows what things go on in the minds of the young.

All I can say is that Baby bear, although only 18 months old, is well and truly a blue. His favourite song is the Blues theme song.

Walks up to you and starts to go "Da da da......We"............and starts a little dance when you start the intro.....and when the song ends ......"more?".........too cute. :D

Lovely. It really is.:) At least you've bred it into him while he's young. I didn't start barracking for a football team until I was about 6 or 7. I've been barracking for Carlton ever since.:thumbsu:

but..but...but... :(
I'll call you when he is toilet trained.:D

By then he should have added to his knowledge of our great game. He can say:
Blues - points to the emblem and says "blues......hooray"
Fev
Footy - whenever any sport is on T.V. ........it's footy.
Pies - points to a magpie......."boo"......:D

It's a work in progress. He was saying Judd........but that has past a bit.

oh that's brilliant stuff BB :) Did you have any argument from your partner in terms of who your little one supports? When I have kids, they're going for the Blues. I figure if I have to push them out and go through all that pain, the least they can do is support the Navy Blues ;)

My grandparents old budgie could say "Go carlton, come on carlton.'
And "Kouta kouta kouta."

No arguments. My wife doesn't really follow footy......but is nominally a blues supporter (appeasement).

Baby bear won't even know the other teams exist until he's about 4.........it's the Blues and .....the other team.:thumbsu::D

Learnt "Fev" at his first (and only) game this year vs Swans.........kept throwing his arms in the air saying "Hooray" when a goal was kicked........for either side. :D

Sounds adorable! Who has he got on the back of his jumper? And how old is junior?

No jumper yet. He is 18 months old and would go through them too quickly.

He has got a "Future Blues Star" singlet with Captain Carlton on it, his members beanie and bib.

.....and of course he is adorable.:D
