How can this not be a winner for the general public?

Look at all those cabbies who now know where Flinders St Station and Fed Square are!

Having both the cabs, and the cabbies get some fresh air for 18-24 hours can only be a good thing for all of us in the air quality and personal hygene stakes.

I say let it go on for days!
My car insurance premiums may just go down as a result in the downturn of claims during this period.

I thought it must have been a sub continet rally. :D

Why dont the bludgers do some work. :thumbsd:

Apperently they are protesting shirtless?

LOL how the ____ is that gonna help!

Was about to say, I'm surprised they actually arrived at where they were meant to be going.

But ____ me, some of the shit going on there is ridiculous.

Disgusting that the state government caved into these scumbags. Should have sent the tanks in.

Security screens, yeah, fair enough, understandable. But to have the gall to request fares in advance from 10pm onwards, is just insulting, given that you're always ripped off anyway. How about spending some cash on getting a fare predictor that will show a justified amount for the particular fare?

These blokes are just as criminal as the one who stabbed the cab driver. Filthy, untrustworthy scumbags.

Hardly think its the cabbies fault. They are just doing their jobs. I know money up front from 10pm is pretty bad though. Why dont they implement an id scanner like at clubs? So if someone does a runner or even doesnt have the cash, they can get charged for it at a later date. Would save the hassle of getting money together before the fare starts.

But I agree with this is ridiculas the way they are protesting. Who the hell's idea was it too take their shirts off???? WTF?

I would not want a cabbie getting anywhere near my ID in any shape or form to be honest.

How are they meant to know how much the fare is? I know a taxi to my house costs pretty much exactly $45 but i can tell guarentee they are always going to make me pay more. - chances are they wont get me the change - i mean seriously what can i do? im a 19 year old girl, i can hardly stand up to them can i? what about protecting the majority of passengers who do the right thing and are constantly screwed over by these "drivers" or whats to stop them taking my money then pulling over 5 mins later and kicking me out? or if i complain theyre charging me to much - obviously there gonna take me the loing way home,

they must be loving this - now they know they can screw over even more passengers for their "protection" - seriously put a shield in between them and dont make it a mandatory payment - just for the people they think look dodgy - serioulsy how long is it going to take for a backflip on this once eveyone starts getting screwed over...

hmmm maybe if all the other young girls who are clearly going to be taken advantage of over this hold a topless protest in the city we might see some results :p

That's the spirit!

*Disclaimer* Young girls is defined as over 18 in my over-zealous, out of context reply.

RIGHT ON, COMRADE! I'll be right there in spirit!........behind a shrubbery.....with photographical tools.........and a trenchcoat......hello to my parole officer if he's reading this. Eek. :o

Yeah, I'd like to see them have some sort of contact with a call centre in that the fares are able to be read by a 3rd party of sorts before the transaction is completed, or even as you get in, a fare is negotiated with said third party.

Too many times you're just going to end up exploited and out of pocket.

Their is no way anyone should be physically attacked at work and i guess they did what they had to do to get protection.

Did i hear right when they said in the news this driver had only been in Australia 3 weeks, if so how the hell can he be a cab driver, i've been in Melbourne 3 years and still don't know all the areas, so how can he drive a cab and do the job properly.

Now the drivers have their concerns sorted out, shall we all go and protest about the service we get from cabbies ie: the disgusting smells in cabs, the lack of knowledge in regards to where they are taking you and the blatant rip offs with charges.

No, don't be racist. Far out of the question.

So you're saying Indians are dirty?
I am

While we're on Taxi drivers, I've got a way around those drivers who are looking for nice long trips.

Jump in say "essendon" and pick up your Mob. phone, start talking and say, "sorry mate change of plans, looks like I'm going to the Docklands", if they pull over, simple, call the police and have them sort it out.

That's just as likely to work against you, especially if you're trying to get a cab just around changeover time for them.

If they pull over you don't get out, just sit back, call the police and let them handle it.

When they come, sit back tell them that you've always been willing to pay, but just had a change of plans when you jumped in the taxi, the driver has cracked it at you and your understanding of the law is the driver must driver you where you are willing to pay to go.

you dont even need to pretend to be on the phone - you just get in, say your going to essendon or whatever but first you need to pick up some friends in "insert closer suburb that you really want to go to". he'll drive you there thinking hes gonna get a huge fair and when the cab gets there, simply give him the money and get out, no trouble at all.

Agree..........although I'd be less keen on doing this were I going home. Great, some guy you've pissed off, now knows where you live.
