What is a captain?

Someone who has leadership qualities, someone that others can follow, someone that sets high standards and has high standards, someone that others look up to for guidance.

There are many more qualities that a captain must have but these are the main points.

Taylor Adams can not, must not be the next captain after Scott Pendlebury.


Taylor Adams has been and still is one of our worst decision makers and one of our lowest skilled players, every single week.


A captain has a cool head and is calm in intense situations.

This is not Taylor, he is panicky with his decisions and when he makes a decision (most of the time a horrible decision) he rarely executes.


Don't get me started with list management either, let me just get this off my chest and push it hard so that maybe the incompetent managers at the top get a sniff that we as supporters, we as stake holders (that's what being a member is), we need to be heard and our opinion is often more right than wrong.
We live the club, we watch every game and watch closely the development of young players, we understand players better than Management think we do, we see the players mannerisms out on the field, we understand players mentalities, capabilities and we collectively know what is best for the club.

Taylor would be a sickingly horrible choice as next captain.


It must be someone who is calm and someone that others consistently depend on.


Grundy or Moore, even De Goey, I would have these 3 ahead of Taylor.

Steele is ok too but he would only be captain for 2 maybe 3 seasons.

I would choose Grundy, captain for 7 years +

I was an advocate for Adams to move into the captaincy role, but 2021 has started to try my patience.

The guy just makes too many ****-ups. That result in opposition goals/scoring chains.

Darcy Moore if he wants it is now my choice, with Brayden Maynard an adequate alternative (in the Nick Maxwell mould).
 
Because he's so hard on himself...his ability to lead others through deeds is lessened. Whenever he's been captain his game has suffered. Some think he's selfless, but he's proud and it hampers his ability to play his role. He is ALWAYS trying too hard and that's when he makes mistakes.
I know people used to say the same about Bucks and he turned out OK as a skipper....but he was 1000% more talented than Tay Tay and you can't have a workhorse trying to be a stallion!
I'd go with Moore or Grundy with Maynard as the stand in if need be.

It is, and I don't think Adams should be captain either. But absolutes like "Adams can not, must not be captain" like the OP is presenting aren't really points that you can debate.

He also thinks Grundy should be captain for 7+ years ;)

Pretty obvious to footy watchers that Taylor should not be captain.


I have made this point countless times the last 5 years, the Management at Collingwood, Board level down to Coaches, have made mind blowingly confusing and outright stupid decisions.

How is it possible that we as supporters can see very early on what decision should be made regarding players positions, selections, list management etc and we are ultimately correct, yet Management makes the opposite decision and it takes them years to eventually see they were wrong and we were right, while the club and team suffers because of the errant decision.

They are Management and they are meant to be experts, yet the % of decisions that are just bad decisions is as if all Management at Collingwood both don't give a **** about Collingwood and don't watch enough footy.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were crucial decision makers at Collingwood that don't ever watch other games of footy outside of Collingwood games.

I wouldn't judge him on this year or this game.

I like the idea of shared Captaincy with him being one of them and perhaps someone like Moore the other.

A few years back I even thought that Grundy was Captain material so I think it is good that others make the decision.

The light is blinding, I have felt this way from day one about Taylor.

Has shocking mentality out on the field, shocking decision maker and shocking skills, he would go down as one of the worst skilled captains of all time.

Must be Grundy imo, perfect choice.
 
Maxwell wasn’t the most skilled player either but a magnificent captain. Not many alternatives out there. Moore is always injured, Grundy won’t be “defined” by winning premierships, JDG is a goose of the highest order. Maybe Maynard who also has his fair share of brain fades.

Maxwell not hitting simple leading targets was not as crucial as our main midfielder not hitting simple leading targets.

Completely different positions and I disagree with you, Maxwell had skills Taylor doesn't and will never possess, yet you can't say the same thing reverse, Maxwell had just as many skills that Taylor has.
 
Moore possibly but Grundy's displays are simply sub par for a first ruck, let alone captain.
