Taylor Gilchrist

Date of birth: 19/10/90
Height: 190cm
Weight: 74kg
Club: Sandringham Dragons

Bio: Gilchrist is an athletic, agile midfielder who can run the lines. His pace is a feature along with his kicking ability. Gilchrist represented Vic Metro in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships in 2008 and is originally from Caulfield Grammar.

Vic Metro U18 coach David Dickson says: Taylor was probably our third tall and a little bit stiff that we had an abundance of tall forwards with blokes like Tyrone Vickery, Jack Watts and Tommy Lynch. He's a running player, a lead-up player, a push up the ground and present player, but he's probably still a little bit outside and he needs to toughen up a little bit and start winning a bit more of his own ball. He probably didn't get as much game time [in the championships] as he would have liked, but I think the more he plays in an AFL system the better he'll be.

Good to see a balanced appraisal by a coach which gives some idea of why this bloke lasted to the rookie draft, rather than those ones that make even the last player taken sound like a potential multiple Brownlow medallist.

Welcome on board to Gilchrist.

Great kid from a great (Carlton) family. Pity the Blues didn't pick him up. Taylor's got a very good work ethic and won't leave anything to chance. Some of his games for Caulfield and Sandy were very good. Well done Swans.

Thats good. Work ethic is really important to already have as it is one of the few things that a club cant improve.

Very good mate of mine, I'm absolutely stoked. Can't wait to see him in the red and white.

Wingman/HFF type player, has a massive - yet accurate kick that is likened to Goddard's. He whacks in hard for a guy that doesn't have a truckload of meat on him (although he's bulked up a fair bit over the last year), and he's got a lot of polish and class. If/when he can crack the 22, could be a good player for us for a long time.

Cmon mate, enough with all that ability/potential crap, what's his nickname?

Doesn't really have one, it's Gilly, TG, TJ, TJG or just Tay. Quite boring nicknames there :p

I just call him Tay.
OMG, he shall be known as Chocolate Rain then.
