Taylor, Roughead, Lewis .... IN!!!

This is the most excited I've been about the Hawks in a number of seasons. True, we probably won't win many games this season, but we suddenly have a group of extremely talented young players, and I applaud Clarko for getting them in early.

I think they'll learn more in one afternoon against Essendon than a dozen games with Box Hill. As someone said on SEN the other day, "Let's get 'em in, and let's get on with it".

It's a squad only at this stage. Be HIGHLY surprised if they go in with that many (a third of the side in essence) containing one and three (presuming Franklin, Miller and Thurgood are all kept in the seniors) gamers.

Ahhh .... nothing like being thrown in at the deep-end.

Can remember when I was a junior playing at 9:30 am on grass-blades stiff with frost .... an early punch in the snout in the first few minutes made me so much a better player for the game. The relevance? Hard knocks early .... be alert and learn quicker in difficult conditions.

Although it's only still just the extended squad, is an incredibly young and raw selection of players. Very exciting for the future. Throwing them in the deep end against animals like the Bombers has it's positives and it's negatives. I trust Clarkson and co to know where they're at and what they can handle better than us, and to make the right decision. Can't wait to see Roughy and Taz. :)

Good move by AC. It publically shows our youth policy and what direction we are heading. He can concentrate the on blooding the young kids, and can't be critized as not many people would think a team with 6 first year players would win many games. He's got a plan and is sticking to it, just like he said he would.

It is clear AC is looking to give our young players early experience. They are who we have to turn to now because our senior players are letting us down

well the best of luck to Simon Taylor - I was in Boarding School with the big fella for 4 years and have known him since i was taller then him (quite a while).
His old nickname was Chudhead - due to the amazing size of his head.

Never thought he would play AFL, although he is actually a very good intellect as well - best of luck.

with them all being named in the starting 18, I think unless by reason of injury, the AFLs rules mean they all will play....the omissions must come from those named on the extended bench ???

its exciting to see them all in and its not like they are small or slight bodied, so give them all a go and lets see what the future holds....one would think that Al will rotate the six youngsters off the bench so not likely to have all of them on the field at once

Yess, i concur with the good luck to Simon, i too went to boarding school with the big fella for a number of years (you may guess that i know the extasdeesman). Seriously, when the boy was about 10, his head was huge and he took the appearance of an orange on a toothpick.

Never expected him to reach this level, however he has the smarts to make it.

The most positive thing i've seen from you guy's in quite a while.

Good luck to all your youngsters, as you probably realise there will be some pain as there form fluctuates.

You guys have a number of players that were just not going to make it so this is your first step in a long process.

Like us you will cop some beltings ( but that was going to happen anyway) along the way but the knowledge that some of these youngsters will become very good players when they mature will help ease the pain.

At last you have something to look forward to.

Good luck to the youngsters.

If we can develop a good solid team like the Cats with a few stars thrown in i'll be very happy. Go the young guns.

Nothing develops character more than having to fight for a win...

Right. Now that the philosophy is out of the way I will get down to business. I am rapt to see Taylor and Lewis both get a game, IMO they are who we should be putting in. I wasn't so happy initially about Roughead being in the team...I would have preferred him play another one or two matches at BH just to truly see where he is at...however now that it is closer to the game I am happy that he is given his chance.

Will be great to see the match because of these new kids playing, and the fact that it is rivalry round.

Great stuff from AC. Firstly for how he used the picks, and secondly for giving the side an a giant shot of young blood now. Six young ones in three weeks.

Hope all the kids have a big day out.

Concur with everyone regarding the new boys. What the hell though, is Tim Clarke doing in the 22? He is clearly blessed. I'd like to know what kind of unforgivable error riddled performance he has to put in to be sent where he belongs. If we are going to go with a possesion based game plan ( see flooding ) then serial turnover merchants like Clarke are a serious liability.

Yep agree, better drop Chance, Crawf, Hay, Croad, Vanders, Everitt, Brown, Smith...

The attempt at sarcasm falls sadly short because of the usual lack of thought of the author. All of the above are superior players to TC ( even the hapless Vandenberg ).

How do Everitt and Crawford make it onto your silly little list anyway?

While Clarke may not be in the Hawks best 22 list in a year or two, I think it will be because he gets passed by other players and not because he's put in a series of substandard performances. Based on last week, I'd say his game was at least OK. He had 16 posessions, laid 6 tackles, took 6 marks, and kicked a goal. Surely this performance warranted another shot this week. His one turnover was glaring but not unforgivable because time was running down and the Hawks need to drive forward and score two goals. My vote is to play him until one of the youngsters is ready to take his place on a permanent basis!
