Thoughts of RD 1 Thumping of Port

Dominated some Stages but was very Poor in other Parts. Nothing more than expected in RD 1.

My Thoughts in Bullet Point:

  • Dawes was really good with 19 Possesions and 4 Goals. Wanted hi to Kick 5
  • Pendles and Swan where Excellent Again
  • L Brown was Dissapointing I Thought
  • Krakouer got the Team Going in the 3rd QTR

Changes for next week:

In: Davis Fasolo Keeffe

Out: Mcaffer Buckley L Brown

L Brown has had a slow start to the year, seems like he hasn't quite woken up yet! I expect they'll be patient with him though.

Re the sub, they're likely to rotate 4-5 through that position to keep match fitness, esp if they get as little game time as what Caff did yesterday.

He'll likely play next week, most likely seniors, after a good showing when he came on.

What do you think of Buckley possibly on HFF? As long as he goes hard at it, with his defensive training and booming kick he may be better suited there, where the odd poor decision won't be as critical.

I personally think the poor decisisons will reduce If he gets game time and gets a sense of confidence about himself in the team.

But with Maxy and Davis to come back, his possibilities are likely to be limited, barring further injuries/suspensions etc

Dawes was great, and you shouldn't make too many conclusions off one game, but he appeared to overtake Cloke yesterday as our key forward.

And I rate Trav very highly despite his erratic kicking..so Dawes is enormously exciting esp given he is three years younger or thereabouts.

Well when you think about it we have no one as big and strong as L Brown to play that 2nd Ruck. Keeffe has the Height but not the Strength.

Well he did look better up Forward then Down Back. He is a Nice Long Kick for Goal that could be Handy.

But I still think he will be Dropped

I agree what I saw they went for Dawes more than Cloke.

But as you say it's 1 Game and same as Ceglar had a Really Good Game on Friday but needs to keep it up

Who would he come in For?

He was getting very close to a call up late last year, but possibly he needs to string a number of very strong four qtr performances together in the VFL, before he's in serious contention.

Hope he gets a chance at some stage, but didn't help his immediate chances missing the NAB preseason.

Not Playing in the NAB Cup did hurt Rounds and would of Putting Sinclair and Fasolo ahead of him at the moment

No need to gift Keefe or Fasolo games. They only come in if form drops/injuries hit.

but as MM said during the week (forgot which program) we need to blood kids and bring our list of experienced players up to and over 30 during the year - likely blooding them in the 1st 10 weeks. so expect to see keeffe, fasolo & others getting a guernsey - MM has never been scared to take opportunities, and dont expect its due to bad form or otherwise - its simply for the good of the team come finals time.

i half expect so see a few debuts just before our byes in the coming months - step up to the hard game of senior AFL, then a week off to recover and reassess.

good times.

I'd expect we'll see a bit of blooding youngsters down the track, but the VFL seniors haven't started yet so you'd imagine if anyone was to come in at this stage it'd be experienced players like Goldy, McCarthy etc.

Ahem... sorry, I needed my 'tongue in cheek' emoticon. There was such unwarranted hyperbole about him last week :)

TBH, I'd be happy with the team as-is providing Maxy can come back by Rd 3 for Carlton. Let Buckley run around a little more and get some valuable game-time. As much as people have been bitching and moaning about him, I think his run and penetration is something we'll lose when BJ finally goes so he needs developing ASAP.
