What does everyone think?? Forget about positions but what about the makeup of the side?? Barring no injuries and everyone in form, would this be our best 22?? Thoughts?

Close To It

Your team is close to the one I'd pick but I would make a few changes.

FB- Bickley - Bassett - Hart

HB- Massie - Hewitt - Edwards

C- Johnson - Roo - Steinglein

HF- Perrie - Stevens - Welsh

FF- Fitzy & Schell (Two Pronged Attack) Burton

RUCK- Clarke - Mcleod - Goodwin

INT- Smart - Bode - Marsh - J Gallagher

EMERG- McGregor - Ladhams - Biglands - Beinke & Angwin.

Well actually when i peiced mine together it was a lot different to what yours was.
I can guarantee I will have forgotten someone.
It seems weird doesnt it when you are looking at a list or putting one together and you arent adding a Jars or a vardy this year.
Well I think that team looks quite good and nearly 3 quarters of them are quite young.
GO CROWS 2002:) :)

You're right, the team is very young, really only Smart and Bickley who won't be a part of the side for the next 4 or 5 years.

Structurally, there isn't much difference between our sides, whether a person plays on the half forward flank or in a pocket or on a wing, it doesn't really matter.

Interesting you want to play Stevens at CHF. I think we need him there but I don't trust Hewitt on a consistent basis at CHB. My thoughts were we should strengthen the defence and allow Fitzy, Schell and Perrie to take the responsibility up forward as marking targets. We seem a bit too tall with all 4 playing forward.

Anyways, it's still fun discussing the team. Cheers

well done

Ant,

I think you are spot on with your team. The only personel changes I would make would be Marsh for Biglands and Ladhams for Bode. The only thing that worries me is our forward line set up. With Welsh, Fitzgerald, Schell and Perrie, I think we are too tall and might need another rover up there. Lack of experience would be the other big concern up front. I would like to see Johncock in the team somewhere as well, however I'm sure that will happen as the year rolls on.

Cheers Jerome and you make fairs points too. We certainly look very inexperienced and a little tall up front.

The solution would be to play Stevens forward but the only other option would be to play Hewitt there and I'm not sure if he can handle it week in, week out. Maybe Bown or Handby will be fast-tracked for a role while I've heard Massie can play tall. We may however be able to play Stevens forward against certain teams; I'm sure the committee will work something out there.

Maybe one of Perrie, Fitzy or Schell will start on the bench as well with Burton or Crowell forward, to give us more ground level strength.

And I haven't forgotten about Johncock either, he'll be a good player for us, but he needs more time in the SANFL I think and with Bicks continuing and Massie in, he won't be needed at the start of next year IMO.

:)

FB: Johncock - Bassett - Hart
HB: Massie - Hewitt - Shirley
C: Burton - Johnson - Stenglein
HF: Perrie - Stevens - Riccuito
FF: Edwards - Fitzgerald - Angwin
R: Clarke - Goodwin - McLeod
I: Biglands - Bickley - Welsh - Gallagher
E: Smart - Beinke - Bode

I would like to see the Crows persist with Hewitt @ CHB & Stevens @ CHF, as that was the structure when we played our best footy. Stevens & Jarman organised the forwards this year & with Jars missing next year, Stevo must play forward. A fit Fitzy (202 cm tall!) is the best option @ FF.

Should blood a couple of youngsters next year in Johncock & Angwin. Johncock should be developed into the pacy backman we have been missing (without sending Edwards back) & Angwin could be another Ottens should he stay incident free.

PS On a wet day, you would drop one of the talls.
