Looking at stats on footywire.com it seems that carlton's major problems are the amount of pressure we put on our opponites. We are the 2nd lowest tackling side in the league richmond ofcoarse is below us and our other problem is our hitouts/clearences. If the carlton boys can focus on improving these two attributes of the game then i beleive carlton will become very good side sooner then what everyone beleives. We have no trouble kicking goals its just when we turn it over our opponites find it way to easy to run through the carlton players and its our disposal skills that is troubling us but they will improve as time goes on. Who knows maybe we can do a Hawthorn and suddenly become a very powerfull side;):thumbsu:

This is getting closer to the heart of our defensive problems. impeding opposition half-backs and on-ballers BEFORE the ball gets into our defence is the area where we're falling down. It's no good blaming the defence for conceding high-scores if the rest of the side lets them drown in low-pressure inside 50s.

Ratten himself was the model of knowing when to attack and when to defend as a player. He often led tackle counts, not just for the team but the league. I doubt there's anyone better to teach that aspect, but some players are going to need it hammered into them, either by a stint in the VFL or drill punishment.

Lets hope the 2008 season turns out similar to the 1998 season where carlton start out like the dregs but end up finishig strong, lets hope they do one better than what they did the season after the 1998 season too :).

I admit to being a little surprised so far with Ratts in this regard. I really expected and hoped he would hammer 'intense pressure at the ball' - of which naturally tackling is a key element....starting in the centre.

Well, we're getting clearances so that's step one. Step two is manning up when we lose the ball.

Actually, Step 2 is not turning the ball over at the half-forward line like we have been.

Yeah thats where it all goes wrong for us at half forward. Whenever we turn the ball over its mainly there at half forward and the opposition always seem to find it too easy to run through the middle or wings on the ground due to all carlton mids and forwards always being in attack mode lol. I really do beleive carlton will beat collingwood this weekend due to the fact that our midfield on paper absoloutly smashes them but its our disposal, defence and our inexperience im worried about and if the ball gets in the hands of Didak and Swan too much then i think we will lose. Expect Judd ,Murphy and Gibbs to have dominate on the day. Judd will get tagged but by who:confused: and Murphy seems to play good everytime he plays them and they dont rate Gibbs much so i hope for his and carltons sake he shows us why he went at No1.

Wouldnt it be great to see our midfield fire up on the day! They certainly have the talent - and Judd has taken the pressure of Murphy and co.

And I hear you about Didak and Swan - could be a good case for including a Browne or Armfied type and seeing how the gel in the side.

The other big issue is what AlecDuncan said - the inability of our half forwards to move the ball or at least keep it in. This one I am not sure what to suggest..........lets hope Eddie is on a roll
