I didn't realise we had two lappins. Wish we did.

Assuming Chambers and Carrazzo are fit:

B Carrazzo Thornton Teague
HB Houlihan Whitnall Lappin
C Walker Scotland Camporeale
HF Davies Waite Chambers
F Betts Fevola Deluca
R French Koutoufidies Stevens
Int Bentick, Simpson, O'hAilpin, Johnson

Ins: Carrazzo, Chambers, Bentick, Fevola, Davies
Out: Prendergast, Sporn, Wiggins, Longmiur, Bannister

If the CCs aren't fit then Wiggins and McGrath go into the side.

all things being right that would be my team as well.

Alright, step right up folks. It's time for the Funkalicous team:

B: A.Carrazzo L.Livingston D.Teague

HB: R.Houlihan B.Thornton M.Lappin

C: A.Walker A.Bentick H.Scotland

HF: S.Camporeale L.Whitnall, J.Waite

F: E.Betts B.Fevola J.Davies

Fol: B.French A.Koutoufides N.Stevens

I/C: K.Simpson C.McGrath C.Bryan K.Norman

IN: Bentick, Davies, Norman, Carrazzo, Bryan, Fevola, McGrath, Livingston

OUT: Prendergast, DeLuca, Sporn, Longmuir, Bannister, Wiggins , Johnson, O'hAilpin

NOTES:
Livo to play fullback, which is a no-brainer. Hopefully this will allow Thornton to run the ball out of defence and create something.

Lappin to defence, PLEASE DENNIS!! A creative Lappin off half back is a lot more dangerous than a soft, opportunist Lappin up forward.

Bentick in. Finally an in-and-under player we've been crying out for. Give him atleast 3 quarters a game and he'll be the next big thing for the Carlton football club.

Would like to see Waite rotate in the midfield to improve our physical presence around the ball.

Campo up forward. He should be fairly dangerous up forward and quite frankly, I'm sick of seeing him on the ball. When things go pear shape he's usually the first to blame.

Deluca out. Softest ruckman I've ever seen, period. Not much of a forward either. It's about time we find out what Bryan can do. By the sounds of it, he's going alright in the VFL and he deserves his opportunity.

O'hAilpin out. See the other threads on the Carlton board....

Norman in. Why's that you ask, Dennis. Because umm, he's tall and no matter how hard you wish for it, Teague will not grow 4 inches in the space of a week.

Wiggins  out..... and the world rejoices!

I think the midfield needs to be shuffled

Bowyer, Bentick and McGrath deserve a chance soon. I feel we need a bit more grunt around the ball. I look at the stats sheet and see Campo, Stevens and Scotland and Houlihan in the top five and wonder whether we got a good return out of their 90 or so possessions on the weekend. I think they all play best as receivers/intercepters but you also need players who either clear the ball or at least stop the opposition from clearing the ball by exerting body pressure. Kouta seems to have to do all the hard work these days...he always looks stuffed these days and I don't think its just cause he's getting old. Johnson helps out but is normally pretty ineffective by foot and lacks a bit of physical presence.

For next week I would probably make the following changes

Sporn - Bowyer (or Carrazzo if he's fit) can play midfield and backpocket and got BOG last week and votes in previous weeks...Sporns got talent but is out of form.

Longmuir - Davies could do the same job but better...he's younger too and should get more of a go (Forward pocket/flank)

Prendershast - Fevola. I think Setanta can fill in for Prenderghast as the new unskilled, running big guy and could be played in the square to draw back the talls. Setanta could get better...not sure if the same applies to Prenderghast.
Bannister - McGrath (or Bowyer if Carazzo plays) - but try and give him a more attacking role - he's wasted as a tagger. Move him between the midfield or on the half-forward or back line and let Wiggins tag...Wiggins woud probably do a better job both in terms of tackling and body work anyway....his main strength.

I left Chambers out - would only replace him with a receiver type (Campo/Scotland etc) for his pace and long kicking...and I don't think any of the core midfielders will be dropped.
Bentick might have to wait a little while...didn't get any votes in the VFL last week.

Due to Stevo's mishap and Chambers and Carrazzo now being unlikely starters here's what I think the team will be:

B McGrath Livingston Teague
HB Houlihan Thornton Lappin
C Walker Scotland Camporeale
HF Morrell Whitnall Waite
F Betts Fevola Deluca
R French Koutoufidies Johnson
Int Bentick, Simpson, Bannister, O'hAilpin

Ins: Bentick, Fevola, Morrell, McGrath, Livingston
Out: Prendergast, Sporn, Wiggins, Longmiur, Stevens

I can understand people wanting wiggo out becuase of a lack of skills but fuc me dead. Johnson on the ball. He was a disgrace last weekend, and Bannister FFS got carved up by Brown. At least Wiggo quiented him down. I said last week he should start on him. Morrell is no forward he struggled last year until being sent down back. Livo may or may not be back. He will stuggle for match fitness. Id bring Davies back in as a forward ahead of Digby as he has the added ability to be rotated in the middle. Houla on a HBF is a concern. The cats will expose him for being soft. Would be inclined to maybe move him to the wing and let Walker loose on the HBF. The kid might just suprise us by adding some drive out of defense. Walks, Lappin and TBird would all provide alot of run out of the half back line.

good thought there on walker,
i would like to see him be given some defensive/tagging duties so we can fast track his development. let him play on the likes of ling, judd, mitchell, coughlan etc... who will lead him to the ball so he can learn where to run, not to run.

B. Bowyer Livingston Teague
HB. Houlihan Thornton Lappin
C. Scotland Koutoufides Walker
HF. Waite Whitnall Morrell
F. Deluca Fevola Davies
FOLL. French Camporeale Simpson
INTER. Betts McGrath Wiggins Johnson
IN: McGrath Morrell Bowyer Davies
OUT: Stevens( Inj ) Sporn Prendergast O'Hailpin

Decided to give Wiggins a reprieve following Stevens injury.Need all the pace we can get for the Cats. Seriously considered Bentick. Could still come in for Johnson yet. Oh why the hell not - Late change IN: Bentick OUT: Johnson

good luck guys, i think the cats will win, but i think it would also be a great achievement for you guys to only lose by a few points against a top 4 side - which i think you guys can do and it will give you (much needed) confidence.
:)
i hope its a good game

HB. Houlihan Walker Whitnall

C. Koutoufides Thornton Betts

HF. Johnson Bowyer Davies

Pretty much agree, although I'd bring in Karl and I doubt Chambers would be ready for Friday's game. We need Karl at CHB and Thornton at FB, rather than giving forwards and utility players KP back roles. When Karl and Thornton are playing well, they both provide lots of rebound capacity from the backline. I really hope Denis doesn't pick Morell - he just hasn't got enough pace.

Carrazzo's real important to our backline - hopefully he'll be ready. Bentick will be a nice inclusion - promising young midfielder. Agree with Longmuir's omission, and I think Davies will be a much better option. Pagan's got to leave Lance in the forward line, rotating between CHF and FF with Fev. Eddie Betts and Davies are sensational goal sneaks and could be damaging. I'd put Waite in the midfield. We really need some toughness in the centre. Kouta, Campo, Stevens and Scotland are just too attacking sometimes. Bentick and Waite in the midfield will keep them honest. Waite is huge, and has a tendency to clean up little midfielders with big tackles - e.g. Brock McLean in the Wizard Cup, which resulted in a nice goal. I've been a little disappointed with our team selections in recent weeks. I've got a horrible feeling Pagan's going to play Morrell or Prenda instead of Karl. Big mistake. Need to persist with Setanta - he gives 110%, and has got size and could be a good 3rd tall option up forward, and may kick a couple. Team selections are crucial. Hope they get it right this week. :)

Wiggins was the last player I dropped. I'd love to keep him in but I had to choose between him and McGrath and I chose McGrath. Johnson had a bad game, so did 20 other players last week (Lappin the exception). You can't sack everyone and with Stevens gone we're going to need him in the midfield.

You do realise that 'offical' team line up is a nonsense right? I chose Morrell because he's a tall who can go back and take a second or third tall forward , or alternatively go forward and create a threatening presense. Yes Morrell is crap and I think he should be delisted at the end of the year but beggers can't be choosers. Davies goes asleep far too easily during a game and we've got enough of those in the team already.

Houlihan has been playing on a half back flank for 2-3 years now. Why is it all of a sudden a concern? Nonsense. I've been calling for Walker to play on the HBF for a while now, but only so we could free Houlihan up to play in the midfield.

Lappin forward so Milburn can play on him. They are both very similar players. Matty is slightly better but also stands out as his team often crumbles around him. Milburn is a gun now days, so reliable and like Matty appears to be able to compose himself and create time and space and no just when to run away from his man to kick a goal or do something crazy. I want to see this matchup.
