Without going overboard or saying our season is over, tonight exposed the following things about Crows circa 2005...

- we still kick like crap

- Trent Hentschel is soft as butter. Doughty soft? Hentschel floats around like he has half a brain these days and looks for the easy option

- Scott Thompson is a bloody gun...by far our best in this game, pity about his kicking for goal...

- Hart was NOT right to come back and should not be in the team...he is woefully out of form, not surprising after so long out of the game

- Biglands and Hudson are performing well, Biglands despite all the criticism from this board is trying hard and put in another good performance

- McGregor was unbelievably bad...led to the ball, missed marks, shocking kicking...took one or two good marks and I thought the confidence was coming back...but he lost it again...miserable...what is wrong?

- Reilly was nowhere, almost like he didn't lay except for that nice mark...he made a mess of a lot of the basic elements

- Burton was junk...worked hard to get the ball but either coughed it up or put the closest player under pressure EVERY bloody time

- where has Begley's form and confidence gone?

- Welsh needs to be dropped post haste...he is offering nothing at all

- Perrie was excellent, but his kicking has gone backwards since Jarman's gone...he should have had 4 or 5

- where was Mattner?

- Torney, well it's hard to criticise him as he's such a hard worker, but he made several critical errors tonight going for the mark rather than punching...

- where was the respect for Moloney (he's a gun...love his running game), for McDonald, for Brown, for Yze, for Bizzell? We let too many players run free

McGregors 3rd term was ok but the rest of it aint to far of the mark.We had so much of the ball and went foward so many times for nothing.I dont care where we get one or 2 from but untill we get marking fowards we are going no where[Fremantle kicked 20 goals against them last week] and neitz missed most of the second half.
Our descion making under no pressure is bad Thommo had so much of the ball in the right spot but he had no one to kick it to.Reilly should have been draged in the 3rd term had the ball at CHF and instead of kicking it long short pass and turn over,Hentschel must be put up foward and left there Burton NO NO NO.Perrie gets to so many contests but just cant take enough marks when needed like in the 3rd term when 2 marks from him and 2 goals we kick clear.Welsh needs to start leading again,Hart should have come back through north.
The question must be asked where is ANDY McLEOD.

'We're going to take on Melbourne'

Yes, Neil. Running numbers behind the ball and clogging up the game is not 'taking on' Melbourne. It was very defensive, negative tactics. Little of the run through the corridor that has been developing in this season. Lots of waiting for leads wide on the flanks.

For Christ's sake, Melbourne have one of the weakest backlines in the comp...we could have had more luck with fast, attacking football down the corridor without a massive fear of a fast rebound...

Welsh - He must be dropped, this is simple, our forward line just isn't good enough. Bring in Watts, Meeson or Jericho, It doesn't matter, just as long as we try something different up there.

Begley - I think that game should mark just about the end of his career with the Crows. He's had his chances, now it is someone elses turn.

Pretty accurate don't need to add much.
Reilly coughing up the pill and getting holding the ball (which resulted in Davey soccering the goal) was terrible.... kick it!!!!!
Kicking for goal terrible.

McLeod is crap now. I said that after the West Coast game, then he did a bit of magic the next two weeks.... apart from that he has been shocking. I don't know why,,, he is fit and displays his trade mark bursts every now and then but I would be close to dropping him.

That won't happen because he won a few medals last century.

Sounds like something I was saying around 3/4 time - he says something like playing attacking creative football so I'm not sure why a game like this unfolds given that premise - shades of Sydney [and a few othe sides too] I thought.

yep

- Trent Hentschel is soft as butter. Doughty soft? Hentschel floats around like he has half a brain these days and looks for the easy option

Dont actually think that is true, he needs to improve his marking though, it was shocking 2nite

- Scott Thompson is a bloody gun...by far our best in this game, pity about his kicking for goal...

Yeah agree

- Hart was NOT right to come back and should not be in the team...he is woefully out of form, not surprising after so long out of the game

I thought Hart was ok 2nite not great but serviceable

- Biglands and Hudson are performing well, Biglands despite all the criticism from this board is trying hard and put in another good performance

Hudson is playing great, Biglands on the other hand his ruckwork is shocking

- McGregor was unbelievably bad...led to the ball, missed marks, shocking kicking...took one or two good marks and I thought the confidence was coming back...but he lost it again...miserable...what is wrong?

McGregor wasnt good in the first half i thought he should have went forward in the 3rd quarter, but he went alright in the 2nd half

- Reilly was nowhere, almost like he didn't lay except for that nice mark...he made a mess of a lot of the basic elements

Agree

- Burton was junk...worked hard to get the ball but either coughed it up or put the closest player under pressure EVERY bloody time

Disagree thought Burton played well, only a few stupid mistakes 2nite

- where has Begley's form and confidence gone?

Needs to refind it in the SANFL, remebering he only came in due to Doughty pulling out

- Welsh needs to be dropped post haste...he is offering nothing at all

Agree, he has been hopeless the last 2 or 3 weeks

- Perrie was excellent, but his kicking has gone backwards since Jarman's gone...he should have had 4 or 5

Yes Perrie played very well, also agree his kicking needs to improve BIG time

- where was Mattner?

Yeah, he was very poor 2nite

- Torney, well it's hard to criticise him as he's such a hard worker, but he made several critical errors tonight going for the mark rather than punching...

I thought Torney went ok 2nite, just not quite as good as he has been the rest of the year

- where was the respect for Moloney (he's a gun...love his running game), for McDonald, for Brown, for Yze, for Bizzell? We let too many players run free

Moloney, was quiet early, then he just exploded, Mcdonald ALWAYS goes well against us, Brown was very good on his wing, probably surprised that he played on the wing, Yze well i dunno y he was so open, Bizzell well he had a heap of it but so did his opponents(Thompson and Goodwin), but all in all i guess u CANT tag everyone.

All in all a bad last quarter, we blew it in the 3rd quarter dominated without scoring, oh well onto next week.

It's not a matter of tagging everyone...it's a matter of having respect for your direct opponent, especially when they're as dangerous as an Yze type.

I was very impressed with the way Yze one grabbed a couple of marks on the lead - wish we had someone who could do that - regularly.

Agreed - 2 weeks with bloody poor effort - no fight - he doesn't want it bad enough IMO

Kicking for goal terrible.
To be fair I think Tourney ran into his path and cuased him to lose momentum.

I thought Macca had an excellent game - had Davey dragged, skills were superb and he set up many fine passages from HBF.

Moved to HFF in last qtr along with Roo to FF but the pill didn't get down there so they both couldn't capitalise. :(

Haven't seen McLeod's stats but I thought his first half was near perfect when playing the Chris Johnson role from a back pocket.

I wasn't overly impressed with his 2nd half though when he went on the ball and up forward. Seemed to catch the error bug from some of his team-mates.

12 kicks and I think 8 handballs - not bad from a HBF.

I've got a telling moment from tonights game.
From memory, we were down by three kicks midway through the final term (it was something like 15 points) and Perrie takes a mark on the arc near the boundary line on his favoured side. He visibly doesn't want to kick for goal and eventually passes it off, only to effect a spoil. We get a scrappy possession, McLeod ends up with the ball on the boundary line running the wrong way. Then Roo ends up with the ball running the wrong way. We turn the ball over. Davey kicks a goal up the other end.
It could've been within two kicks, but it was out to four.

It was a crucial moment, no doubt. He had to either have a shot or put it at the top of the square.

He was in good company tonight though. We stuffed up big time in the forward line tonight.

Careful, or Rucci will steal a paragraph from here and put it in tomorrow's article under the heading 'telling'...

He was good in the backlines IMO, and I've already said that.

He played a variety of postions after half time and was nowhere near as good IMO which is why I was curious on his second half stats.

You never asked for those ;)
