Anyone played this game, it's a little like mine craft except its 2d, and there is heaps more depth to it.

You can dig out the terrain, mine and smelt ores and stuff. There is many many monsters, boss monsters, And many more items to craft then mine craft. As the game progress you move on from swords and stuff to guns and flamethrowers and the like. As you build house merchants and the like occupy them so you can buy and sell stuff to them, as monsters drop coins.

Am Finding it highly addictive, am running a LAN server with the kids.

Check out the wiki, there is a lot of content in this game.(google Terraria wiki)

Awful review :o
Battlefield 3 and CoD Whatever are far more similar to each other than Terraria and Minecraft.

Found it quite fun when I played through it with a mate soon after release. Far more focused on combat and crafting than Minecraft, rather than "autistic" building.
Far stronger sense of progression as well, in terms of the need to craft stronger weapons and armour to take on stronger enemies and bosses in harder areas as you explore the world.

Well worth the $10 price tag.

I found that to. I have played mine craft a lot, but am starting to get over it. It's definitely more combat oriented

The only similarities between Minecraft and Terraria are that you can destroy and place blocks. I was lucky enough to have snagged Terraria for $2.50 on Steam. It's hugely addictive if you get right into it, and there's heaps for you to do. I found though that once I started getting the awesome tools and weapons and items I quickly ran out of things to do.

Haven't played it in a while though, but it's well worth getting.

Can't believe no one else is interested in this. Loving it way more than minecraft

Great game - I also like it more than Minecraft. Paid full price when it was released, and is one of the best value $10 games I think I've played. Haven't played it for a bit, but put 60 odd hours into it (which is a lot for me). Definitely my Indie game of the year.

Haven't tried it yet, but the new 1.1 update looks great on the trailer - I hope to get back into it sometime to check it out (addicted to Skyrim ATM)

I didn't get to that stage, which is nothing new - I rarely finish a game (or in Terraria's case get the best stuff), but from what I read at another forum, the 1.1 update adds a heap more items and doubles the length before you get the top items.

Don't know if that's true or not though? I read that prior to the release of 1.1.

Lmfao that is possibly the best review I have ever seen.

Not to mention it is true aswell.

That is a shocking review. :D
I remember seeing that before. I'm all for comedy reviews (especially if, unlike this review, it is actually funny), but no need to smash an indie game like that when it's undeserved - especially when at the time had only just come out, or was just about to come out, IIRC. Since when has "impossible logic breaking shit" been a problem being in video games? And drowning that guy - all you have to do is click on him, and he'll tell you want to do. They are obviously just trying to be funny, and the actual review means nothing to them (I hope anyway - surely that isn't serious?), but they aren't even funny - just cringeworthy.

FWIW, although not always the greatest reviews either, IGN gave Terraria a 9/10 - http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/117/1170612p1.html

I never made it to hell - had no idea it was even there to reach until after I'd stopped playing.

Did you read the wiki, or know what to do in the game before playing it?

The best thing about Terraria, IMO, was discovering all the stuff - including how to play the game, and what to do.

For that reason, co-op didn't do much for me either, playing with someone at a much higher level to myself. Just become a massive spoiler seeing all the items they had and were giving to me. I stopped playing the game after playing co-op.

I like how the crafting is, where as things show up you can craft when you have the necessary items and are in front of the right forge or table, where as minecrafts crafting was cool, it's virtually impossible to play without the wiki open. Another cool feature is how you can jump your guy into any world.

I only play LAN coop with my 2 kids, so we all started at the same level.

My only gripe is there should be more slots in the chests.

Had our first goblin invasion last night, was crazy but I ran out of bullets pretty quick, am now stocked up with 3k just waiting for the next one.

For the goblin invasion, block up your doors, go a distance from your house and use a strong melee weapon. Piece of cake. As for chests, just make a building dedicated to chests/barrels. In my first world I had chests all over the place and it was had to keep track of inventory, so in later worlds I've built big buildings full of chests with each floor a different colour signifying certain materials and items. Makes finding that other black lens for pimp shades sooooo much easier.

I got Terraria a few weeks after release. Addictive at first, definitely good fun with mates (chasing friends into lava traps is always a laugh), but really loses appeal rather quickly. While it loosely focuses around combat, mobs and bosses are stupidly easy and don't hold much relevance to the game. High end weapons are cool, however the armour bonuses are pretty gimp, especially after later patches. In reality it's just a basic side scroller building game with a bit of hack and slash thrown in so you can change it up a bit. Well worth the $10, but you'll stop playing after building yourself a golden sky castle.

Purchased of this from the Steam sales today, only $2.50 (finally, after it was that earlier this year to be switched about 6 hours later).

Will probably give it a go earlier than most of the other games I have, just to see how close to Minecraft in 2D it really is.

Anyone else here play?
