The biggest problem with our club is Terry’s huge ego and his aim to change the side around from week to week and try and pull off an Adelaide style victory as he did a few weeks. However, as the consistent premiership sides have proved, leave them in their right position, give them the confidence, let them gel with their team mates and watch the results. For example look at Geelong, they play in the same positions week to week and we wonder why they have a sixth sense on where eachother is when they are under pressure. We all know we don’t have a forward line structure but that is because they swap positions week to week.
Below is each young player and where they should be left. In a few players cases, I think that there is only 1 position that they can play and if they can’t handle that they should leave. For example Jay Schultz is an old style leading full forward and will never be anything else. So leave him there and if he can’t kick 4 goals a game bye bye.
2. Thursfield – Tall stopping defender to play on the Browns, Riewoldts etc.
3. Deledio – Half Back Flank, let the ball come to him and let him run off half back, dodge around a few and kick it long into the forward line. Poor lids, his head must be spinning, I don’t think he has ever played in the same position 2 weeks in a row.
4. Raines – Maybe wing, I think in modern footy all defenders need to be highly skilled, therefore he would be better on the wing.
8. Riewoldt – Half Forward Falnk, let him play a Ryan O’Keefe style lead up forward.
9. Cotchin – on the ball, he is a freak.
10. Edwards – Not sure on this, but leave him somewhere.
14. Polo – Back pocket on the dangerous small forward.
16. McGuane – Tall back, put him on the more dangerous forwards to free up Moore.
18. Rance – I think he may have a future on the wing, but not sure.
19. Post – give him a go Centre Half Forward, we need to find one and the only possibilities are him, Vickery or Patterson but give them 5 weeks each to prove themselves.
20. Morton – forward pocket, always has been, always will be.
22. Oakley-Nichols – Full Forward, has actually showed something leading out and taking an overhead. Basically we never want the ball in his hands unless he is having a shot (hence full forward).
23. Jackson – tagging midfielder.
24. Coghlan – tacking midfielder, getting the ball out to the more highly skilled players like Cotchin and Foley.
25. Schultz – Full forward.
26. Pattison – Centre Half Forward, too short for ruck and we need someone to step up in this position.
27. Hislop – just a spare parts player.
29. Vickery – let Graham have the ruck for the next couple of years, let him have a go at CHF.
30. Tambling – perfect Half Back Flanker, is a 10 times better player than Nathan Krakouer for Port and look what he’s done. The ball is coming towards you at HBF and that is perfect for Richie.
31. Thomson – spare parts player (maybe replacement for Coughlan)
33. Gourdis – Full forward
35. White – Wing, let him run!!!!!!!!
38. Nahas – Forward Pocket.
39. Connors – a ready made replacement for Nathan Brown, either forward pocket or half forward. One of the most highly skilled players at Tigerland, just give him a go.
40 Moore – creative defender.
41. Foley – let Coaghlan get the ball out to him so he can use his pace.
42. Collins - a spare midfielder.
44. Graham – leave him in the ruck.
Can’t think of others now, comments?
