Has anyone heard the speech Terry Wheeler made to the players group on Friday? prior Grant's 300. I was told was inspirational.
Understand said something like Grant along with the greats of the club should be looked at as the tradition of the club????

Would love to hear the audio , see a written version, the points raised and what people thought.

It was sensational. I think I mentioned this on another thread as well. MMM was there and I think they had were the only ones there pre game.
A few past players were there as well. Coleman looks like he could still be playing.

Wheeler is a fantastic bloke and we should try to get him at the club on a permanent basis.

No one instils more confidence in players, no one is more honnest and more inspiring. I heard him talk once to his players when he coached Willy and its no wonder they were successful. An unsung Bulldog Hero who we never should have got rid of. Get him back, he is what the club stands for because he never forgets where he came from and where his loyalty lies.

He has an excellent understanding of junior football as well and perhaps we could use his skills in that area as well.

Seriously that speech was a fantastic one.

Did it sound like they replayed all of it?

Ernie perhaps you could contact MMM. I might even do it myself.

They actually played both speaches twice (Ted Whitten Junior and Terry Wheeler). About 10 minutes befor the game and they used the speaches to end the show after the game.

It is something they should put on the footy show on Thursday night. It would make for a great story. Instead of the usual crap. Its what footy is all about.

Yep its the one i heard, would be great if they did play it on the footy show, and showed some pictures as well.

yeah was fantastic made me want to run around and punch the air in a crazed fashion.

e.j. jnr's was first and was great then terry put the cherry on top, he just has a gift for good speeches, he's go the tough deep voice, speaks clearly, looks you in the eyes and words it beautifully.
I believe he's coaching the ais or vis junior football developement type role thingy. So he's doing a lot of work in the under 18 system rather than seniors. Maybe one day he might do some work with us again, but to be honest with his particular abilities, he's ideal for junior development.

they wont do that, its not contraverisal.

That is why the viewers are dropping off. They try to blow every non Collingwood incident out of proportion. It is just as enjoyable to watch as a Current Affair. Nuff said.

I was lucky enough to be working at the club during part of Wheels's coaching reign and can honestly tell everyone that he was no doubt the best motivational speaker I have ever heard. He made a point of referring to you by name and looking you straight in the eye when speaking to emphasise the point he was trying to make. Loyal and very much a players man with ideas well ahead of his time. Truly a sad day when he was sacked.

I second Mitcha's comments here..
I was a waterboy the year Wheeler got sacked and he was simply fantastic. The thing that stuck out most was that although I was a lowly waterboy, he STILL treated you the same he would anyone else.. Always addressing you by name.
Then, enter Alan Joyce..... "Hey you.." was his catch-cry.. Grrrrrrr
Wouldn't give you the time of day !!

Terry Wheeler to Alan Joyce. Talk about chocolates to boiled lollies. Alan Joyce, possibly the worst motivational speaker the world has ever seen. I could have coached Hawthorn to those flags.

has anyone got a link to a sound file of the speech? Someone put a soundfile of an interview with Rocket last week...

I live in QLD and we get diddly about the dogs up here so anything you can link to would be awesome!

yeah that's right. He must of been the luckiest son of a gun to land that job.
I can't believe our incompetance in dumping wheels for that guy. Sure it picked up but i think that was just confidence and the belief that we had a successful coach so it was just going to rub off. It soon sorted itself out in time. I look back on that year of the dogs doco and I still can't believe it. He had us all fooled. Don't get me wrong he was probably i nice guy and obviously some people loved him but you'd never figure him for a coach.

Just for everyone's info, neither Terry's nor EJ Jr's speeches were made in the rooms prior to the game - they were made at training during the week. If you read some of the newspaper articles, Grant didn't want a fuss on match day, even though the club still surprised him with a "guard of honour" from past players in the players' race. Apparently they wanted to get Malthouse involved as well, as he had recruited Grant, but he was unavailable.

Not sure that's true.
Smithy was interviewed this morning on Sport 927 and said that Wheeler gave 2 speeches.
One on the Friday which is the one of the history of the club I mentioned.
And another prematch which was about Grant.

You may be right, however the two speeches replayed on MMM on Saturday after the game were introduced as having been recorded during the week. If Wheeler made another speech pre-game, it wasn't played on Sat night. The one they played was him talking about the history of the club, Hopkins, Olliver, Dempsey, etc, etc. Do you have any idea of the content of the pre-game one then?

Any response? If it's only available on tape, I can convert it and post it up somewhere for people to download (or people can pass it around on msn, whichever's easier).

I emailed them. They said that we would be best contacting Rehame but that there is no certainty they would have it and they werent sure whether it would cost anything.
